I know the style of Tree Dog that I like. I thought it might be interesting to see what Style that Most Big Game Hunters like. Please tell us why you like the style that you do.

I tend to prefer a sit back kinda dog. Most of our dogs naturally seem to do that, exept one. To me, too many dogs on the wood can result in trouble. I also don't like a bear coming down on their head, or the dogs pulling one off. I've also seen dogs get so excited when it's moving just out of their reach, they start chewing or biting anything (not dogs but branches/bark) Our two old dogs plant their butt a few feet away, in a good spot where they can see the bear, and conserve energy. They can sit there and tree like that forever. Have one that's all over huging the tree, and one that does both. On a big enough tree he'll get up there on it and tree a while, run in circles, jump backwards off it, then find a place he can see it, sit and tree a while, and just do that over again. He usually is back away more when we first get there. He'll tree all day, but I know he has to get tired.

I myself like a mix, dogs on the wood and sitting back, just a as long as there is game in the tree.

I also prefer the Sit Back style Tree dog. I think you can hear them better < voice banking off the tree > Also they seem to tree more steady less chewing or jumping ect.

My personal preferance is a sit down tree dog. Ours will all go and put their feet up once we get there, but give them a minute or two and they are all sitting back down again treeing. Seems like most of the dogs that I see on the tree all the time, also have other bad habits, like chewing or jacking on the tree. I don't like that.

id like a dog to sit back and tree --why waste energy , just bark till i get there- i guess they dont care what i like cause i dont have one rite now . - i get a kick out of this picture -dog sitting on stump treeing away like she did everytime but usually not noticed at all - nothing fancy- but there everytime and they can tree a LONG time -- -

I'd have to agree that I prefer a dog that trees back either standing or sitting. I have several that tree that way and a couple that like to stand on the tree some of the time. They are all good tree dogs, I just like the the treeing back style better.

I would be perfectly happy if all my dogs treed just like this.

How many of these hounds that tree back off the tree on big game during the daytime are more prone to tree up on the tree if hunted on coon at night?

In other words I think some hounds after locating the game in the tree during the daytime sit back off the tree because they can see the game better even if they located and treed on scent alone. Whereas they may be more likely to tighten up on the tree when treeing "blind" on scent alone at night when they can't see the coon in the tree.

Anybody notice this?

I can only say that with Ike,Blitz,Elwood. They treed the same style day or night. But I had expected them to tree back more in the daytime hunts.

I like my hounds to climb up their and pull the bear out of the Tree !! Saves Money on Bullets !! But you don't want them falling on top of ya..

I like a dog that that sits back and trees less problems in the long run. Hey pete nice picture of joey treeing, I see sugar in the lower corner also. Reminds of sept 11 2001 when i walked into them alone you were following a couple of the other dogs. Joey and sugar had a nice big boar treed alone that day I ended up getting some good video footage of the dogs and bear. Memories lol course i remember that day because we all no what happened on that date

What do you think would happen when that big red dog falls on top of another dog, for about the third time, and the other dog starts to get tired of being body slammed to the ground?

That most Hunters agree that running the tree is not a good thing. Most of the posts that liked to sit back style tree dog wanted them out of the Danger Zone. Many friend's have been lost to problems at the tree.

i like the tree grippin tree dogs but as long as they arent mean on tree or nothing like that and tree coons iam good i have both on the wood and sit down tree dogs heres my project still have some work with her but she can get it done with or with out company she is my fav

Here's an example of my favorite... He'll sit back like that, and every once and a while get up there on the tree and look pretty, then go back and sit down. Sometimes he'll make a circle, but usually he stays put.

Surprising to me that most all like sit back tree dogs! I too like it. Always have always will. They don't need to be tree jackers! And yes for most parts will never get in trouble with other hounds.

I like a dog to tree with its front feet on the tree. I prefer that their back feet stay on the ground unless the bear tries to come down, but if they run the tree that is fine.

If the bear starts down and is thinking about jumping I want dogs to be meeting it eight feet up the tree.

Most of the dogs that I have had run the tree and I haven't had much trouble on the tree.

The last dog that I saw cause trouble would start trouble with a dog that was tied fifteen yards from the tree.
