Lightfoot Bear Pictures

Here's some pictures of a hunt we had last weekend. We rigged for about an hour before Whiplash struck the track from the truck. I put Whiplash and Blitz down 1st, and they lined the track out. Then I turned Lightning and Snapshot in, and they hit the track and took off in the same direction. We lost hearing of them for about two hours. Then I started getting some tree switches and we decided to drive around the top to see if we could hear them. When we finally got to within hearing, it took us an hour and a half to walk to them. The bear was about 70 ft up and it was hard to judge it's size, but he looked like a nice bear with a good blocky head on him, so I let my cousin Joe Myers take him.

Idaho Lightfoot Lightning, a 1 1/2 yr old male on his 1st bear tree.

Idaho Lightfoot Whiplash

The 45-70 did the job with one shot.

The four Idaho Lightfoot English hounds that got the job done. Lightning the young male dog, and three females that are the foundation of my hunting and breeding program.

Lightning 1 1/2 yrs, Snapshot 6 yrs, Whiplash 3 yrs, and Blitz 4 yrs.

Todd,
We didn't come out the same way we went in, we dropped out the bottom of the canyon and called on a handheld radio for someone to come pick us up. We took pack boards with us to the tree, so we skinned him and boned out the meat. I carried the meat and Joe carried the hide. I just double snap my dogs together in pairs and they follow me out of the woods. It was about a 45 min hike out to the bottom where we got picked up. It was alot of work, but was well worth the reward.

Track,
I know they have bigger bears in other parts of the country, than we do in Idaho. But it's been a few years since I've seen one this big in a tree. Usually all our bigger bears and some of the smaller ones, have been chased enough that they don't like to tree. You being a flat lander, you'd have a hard time packing a cub out if you had to walk up these mountains. LOL

Thanks everyone

I am planning to breed Blitz again as soon as she comes in heat, which should be anytime. This will be her third litter. There are a bunch of nice dogs out of the first two litters. Black Jack, Rev, Stifler, 1st litter. Gambler, Full Throttle, Robin, ShoBiz, Blizzard, and several others around the country that are running and treeing, but don't have pictures on here, out of the 2nd litter.

We don't produce a lot of pups, but every litter we raise is bred to try to produce better hounds for ourselves and those who want to hunt a better hound. I usually start making a list of hunters who I plan to place a pup with from the upcoming litter. We try to select the best hunters from the list to decide who gets a pup. We are more concerned with every pup we sell, getting the best opportunity to excel, than we are with the money we get for them. If anyone is interested, give me a call. I will take a few deposits for the next litter.

I have some other guys hunting these dogs on bear this summer, I just need to get them to take some decent pictures of their hunts, so I can post them on here also. I just made a deal with a good hunter and friend of mine, Dave Remming, to hunt the Lightning dog and get him finished into a complete big game hound. Dave owns Idaho Lightfoot Stifler and Sandy, and I have just given him half of the Lightning dog so he can hunt him and give him the opportunity to be the top hound he has the potenial to be. This will allow me to focus more on my Thunder dog and should benefit both dogs toward becoming the best they can be.

Idaho Lightfoot Lightning on his 1st lion tree.

I've been Lightfooted (again)

Sorry the pictures aren't very good, the only camera I had was my cell phone.

While on my way into camp Friday evening at 8:00 pm, Whiplash struck. I got out and found tracks where a bear had been walking up the road, and then claw marks where he ran over the bank. I assume he heard my truck coming and ran over the bank, because all the dogs blew up in the box after Whiplash struck it.

The next morning I was rigging back up the same road I had came down the night before. When I got close to where I had gotten the strike the evening before, I started looking for the claw marks where he had ran over the bank. I was almost to the spot when Whiplash started whining and then struck with three or four barks. I stopped and ten feet in front of the truck was the same track going over the bank. It was 8:30 am, and I was suprised that she struck a track that I knew was over 12 hours old. I got her off the box and put her right where the track left the road. She went down the hill 30 ft and started opening on the track and moving it out. I turned Blitz in next and she opened in the same spot and went to cold trailing also. Thunder and Snapshot were next and they went a little farther before they opened, but then started cold trailing with Whiplash and Blitz. They cold trailed for about 45 minutes before going over the next ridge and out of hearing. I spent the next hour and a half driving around trying to get within hearing of them. When I finally found them they were a couple miles from where they started and were bayed in the bottom of a deep canyon. I listened to them for a while and they weren't moving very much, so I grabbed my pack and bailed off the top headed for the roar in the bottom of the canyon. I had walked for about 40 minutes and was about half way to them, when I noticed the baying barks change to tree barks. I walked to the bottom and about 1/4 mile up the other side to get to them, where they had a nice boar in the tree.

Whiplash and Thunder

Thunder's 1st bear tree.
