I know there are alot of purebred hounds throughout the country, that for various reasons are not registered. Some of the hunters that own them probably aren't interested in ever getting them registered. But I think there are also alot of hunters that would like to have their hounds be registered if they could. If UKC would modify the requirements for single registration to outline the characteristics needed for a hound to perform on big game, I think many people would be interested in getting their hounds registered. Of course all hounds would still have to meet the specific breed standards for that breed.
I single registered my old Jammer dog 10 or 12 years ago, and was able to use him in my breeding program. His father was a registered dog, but mother was not. Jammer as well as several of his littermates were top big game hounds, and I'm proud to have him in my pedigrees. By getting him single registered before I bred him, I was able to raise a litter of registered pups out of him. Although it took a little extra effort to get all the paper work in order. I now have several PR bred, registered English hounds that go back to old Jammer. I feel that this is alot better way to go about getting a hound registered that wasn't born that way, than the people that just put a set of fake papers on a dog and call it good. When a dog is fake papered, the person that does it is doing a great disservice to any hunters or breeders following them who try to pick up where they left off.
