quicktrack ?

Is there anyone still using the old systems vs the new garmin system to bear hunt?

I have mixed feelings about this. thinking of buying a garmin but is it worth it?

We use both like the beep beep in case they get out of Garmin range. We have quite a few dead zones where I hunt.I will use only the garmin when they can get 10 mile range and 10000 hour battery life.
I use Magnum's sidekick radio trackers they will go on a Garmin collar

I will probably do just that. I just ordered my garmin and 4 collars From
Clinch mtn outfitters I got a good deal if anyone needs
Any collars they got a great price on them.
I hope it's as good as everyone says they are. That's a lot of money
To sink in a system.

I use the Garmin collars and they are pretty darn neat as long as a person can stay connected. However, I hunt deep canyon country and if the dogs go out of the drainage a person better have a road or he's done with finding them.

Short story is I double collar and have since I started with Garmin, still have about a dozen Quick Track collars and a Quick Shot antenna that always gets strapped on. Battery life on my DC30 collars is about 33 or 34 hours this time of year and around 45 on the DC40, both collars utilizing the 30 second rely signal. And a guy can cut his dogs off great with those Garmin collars, love them to dealth but need more range and battery life to every make them a single collar system.........

I hope that Marshall puts a good unit together for you men and women that have tons of years ahead of your field trips. But I have probably bought my last tracking unit whether it runs off a satellite and is a real GPS instead of a wannabe like these others. At the present time, I have an old Tracker, a Quicktrack with the new Quickshot antenna, and the Garmin deal. And unfortunately there is a limit as to how much money these electronic companies are gonna make off this old boy.

I EXPECT IT WOULD HELP TERMEDIOUSLY IF MANY OF US HAD GROWN UP IN THE COMPUTER AGE. I CAN TELL YOU FROM WHITE HAIRED EXPERIENCE THAT DEALING WITH THE GARMIN CAN BE A LITTLE FRUSTRATEING SOME TIMES MORE THAN JUST A LITTLE. THAT IS NOT TO SAY THE BLUE BOX I HAVE USED FOR 35 YEARS DOES NOT HAVE IT'S LIMITATIONS LIKE BOUNCE IN MT. COUNTRY. AND NEEDING CONSTANT REPAIR. WHAT EVER ,THEY ARE A GOOD COMPLIMENT TO EACH OTHER. WHAT ONE CAN'T DO TYHE OTHER CAN & DOES.

I TOO WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE WHAT MARSHALL COMES UP WITH IF THEY DO. PROMISES PROMISES.

IS IT WORTH IT. FROM MY PERSPECTIVE AND I HAVE USED THE GARMIN SOME LAST YEAR WITH A HUGH AMOUNT OF FRUSTRATION AND THIS YEAR FOR A MONTH OF CAT HUNTING AND 2 MONTHS OF BEAR HUNTING.

1. THE FRUSTRATION LEVEL IS GETTING BETTER. I AM GETTING A BETTER HANDLE ON IT.
2. USEING ONE IS A DIFFERNT TYPE OF HUNTING. I HAVE BEEN A REAL EARS & BLUE BOX HUNTER, YOU FIND YOURSELF PAYING ALOT OF ATTENTION TO THE SCREEN. I LIKE THE MUSIC.
3. WE HAVE SAVED A WICKED AMOUNT OF TRAVELING AROUND TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH THE DOGS WHEN THEY GO OUT OF HEARING. WITH THIS GARMIN YOU CAN STAY ON TOP OF WHAT DIRECTION THEY ARE GOING WITHOUT ALOT OF DRIVEING. WHILE YOU LOOSE THE DOGS ON THE GARMIN, YOU COULD LOOSE THEM WITH THE BLUE BOX. WITH THE BLUE BOX YOU GET A GUESS AS TO DISTANCE BY THE INTENSITY OF THE BEEP AND IF THEY WHERE SWINGING RIGHT OR LEFT.
4. WE ARE FINDING THAT WE ARE USEING THE GARMIN MORE AND MORE AS TIME GOES ON AND THE BLUE BOX OCCASIONALLY.
5. I SOLD MY GARMIN SET UP TWO YEARS AGO I WAS SO FRUSTRATED WITH IT. I COULD HEAR THE DOGS AND NOT GET THEM WITH THE GARMIN. I WAS HOPEING MARSHALL WOULD ACTUALL COME OUT WITH SOMETHING GOOD. THEN I HUNTED WITH SEVERAL FELLAS THAT HAD GAMINS AND GOT TO SEE THE BENIFT. I WENT TO N.C. THIS SPRING AND COULD REALLY SEE THE BENIFIT. I BOUGHT ANOTHER GARMIN WITH DC 30S AND AM GLAD THAT I DID. THE ONLY QUESTION IS, WILL MARSHALL COME OUT WITH SOMETHING BETTER ? WHO THE HELL KNOWS. SHOULD YOU WAIT ON MARSHALL THAT IS UP TO YOU.

Simple, battery life! If a person starts an old lion track in country without much access it might be days to get those dogs back. And it appears the battery life of the DC30 and DC40 is about 34 to 45 hours on the thirty second signal, thus the link to that dog is gone and the odds of getting them back safely might not be good. The reason I double collar is not for signal, but rather to assure I still have a signal in the coming days if necessary.

I picked up the extended range antennas on my collars, along with a couple long range antennas for my Garmin and they stay hooked up fairly well. What I like about the system is it shows me right where those dogs are and provides a chance to cut them off by knowing what road they might cross next. The old beep, beep, beep deal doesn't provide very much information. The Garmin system is a far cry from what we need, but I doubt Martin will have all the answers either..........
