State of Florida now requires all dog haulers to stop for inspection!

State of Florida is now requiring all dog haulers to stop at every Agricultural Inspection Stations before entering and exiting the state. These Inspection points are located on every interstate and major highways throughout Florida. Upon entering or exiting Florida all dog transporters must show proof of rabies vaccinations and health certificates on all dogs. They may make copies of paperwork and inspect the dogs. All cargo vans and dog trailers must stop or risk being pulled over. Passenger vans, Pick Up’s and RV'S are exempt. I was stopped 4 months ago for bypassing the inspection points and was given a warning. Florida and California are the only states that have these inspection stations.

The reason why I won't go to Florida anymore are as followed. I cannot get all of my clients to get health certificates on every dog especially on hounds. I do not want to risk you hound getting confiscated due to lack of proper paperwork. Lets be honest, everyone is looking for the cheapest way to ship hounds and most don’t believe that health certificates are required anyway. In most state it’s a misdemeanor to transport dogs across state lines without rabies and health certificates. Its only enforced if you get pulled over for a driving infraction or the Humane Society gets involved.

Secondly stopping at interstate inspection stations reminds me of Nazi Germany or Russia. My right’s as a citizen of the United States under the constitution prohibits from unreasonable searches and in my opinion these inspection station’s violates that civil right. I have nothing to hide nor have we been banned from Florida. On the contrary I went to college in Florida and was a reserve Law Enforcement Officer.

Here is a photo of my van getting inspected at an Agriculture Inspection Station in Florida.

Inspection Points

All of the dogs that are getting booked with us going to or coming out of the West Coast areas will have to comply with the USDA interstate travel regulations. I am well aware of the Nazi inspection points in California. I don’t think they are as stringent on health certificates as Florida is but I am not going to risk my USDA license and possibly get detained finding out.

It has been my experience that people from the West Coast areas are more willing to provide health certificates on hounds to ground ship because its harder to find haulers that service those area's. The demand for haulers is greater thus people will comply.

I still turn down Florida jobs and will do so until that situation changes or when all hounds people begin providing health certificates.

Dave,
