Cause of hair lose on hunting beagle

I have a male hunting beagle who lost a section of hair on his right hine leg around the hip area on 1/4/15. It happened over night. I hunted him hard for two days and on the second day while showing him a dead rabbit he pulled the rabbit into and ate it. The next morning I noticed a section of hair gone on his riight hine leg about 2'' x 3''. He also had two smaller sores on the same leg. Believe it or not, but it truely showed up over night. Houses have free cedar shaving as does my dog box. I have been treating it with cut-heal since 1/4/15. It's slowly healing, but the skin is a dark red in color. I had another dog to have two similiar sores about the size of a nickel. I treated them with quick+heal from my local farm supply store. They healed up completely in three days. Any ideas as to what's going on and causing this?

without seeing it mu first thought would be mange, this is easily treated with Ivomic 1/10 cc per 10 lbs of dog weight orally for about 14 days

I always thought that the mange was more of a warm or hot weather condition.

Is his bedding wet? What is his breeding? Certain bloodlines are known for hair loss!!

A skin scraping by a vet will likely show if it is from a mite/mange. Then you can treat accordingly.
Mange does seem to effect dogs when they have periods of stress which could include extreme high and low temps.

Matt, Can you tell us more about hair loss that is genetic in Beagles? Not familiar with that.

Bedding is dry. I use cedar shavings. Bedding is changed on a regular basis. I've been treating it with cut heal which seems to be working. The area is not as red. I'm going to give him some ivemectin for a day or two and see if that helps. It's definitely getting better, but what got me was it happened within a 24 hour period or overnight. I've raised beagles for 30+ years and thought that I had seen it all, but this is a first for me.
