Champions winners determined by a coin flip. Sounds like crap to me. Rock never got bet. The hunt officials beat rock not another hound.

Let me say one thing! I'm one of the hunt officials and in a winners pack, which is what the final fours are, are determined by a coin flip or run for an hour. In these finals it was dark when they finished so a coin flip is the only way to determine a winner. It's in the rule book!
For the record the grands was decided by a coin flip also and I got 2nd also. I would've loved to run another hour but that wasn't possible.

John, it is crap, it is in the rule book and this is what I have seen in other organizations.
I have seen AHRA Little Pack run the winners pack with flashlights, it was discussed and only 2 choices were available Flashlights or hold the winners pack the next day. The next day was NOT good for many.
The AKC I've seen flashlights used to finish the winners pack. I have also seen the AKC require all dogs be held over until the next day. I couldn't stay and could have been suspended from the AKC.
There is NO good answer. Maybe we should consider lighted collars? Have you ever run with lighted collars? You can see much more then you can see during daylight.

if you don't like the rule, ask your representative to propose a rule change. That is the only way to fix it if it is broke.

Allen, I know you don't like me getting involved on here in these disputes but this needs to be said. I heard enough complaining and belly aching this weekend about these winners packs and some stuff with the hunt. Guys and gals, we (NHBA and the clubs) ran this hunt the best way we could. I'm sorry if you guys didn't like the outcome but the rules are in place and that's the way things were handled, by the rules!!!

I think mabey should have went to sudden death. First dog on the paper wins. Dont mean to be a jerk about it but a coin flip does nethier dog justice. I maybe wrong but I think ukc motto used to be honor where honor is do or something like that. There no honor inhonorflipping coins

OK, before this gets out of hand, John your right flipping a coin stinks. Not a true test to determine a winner. This hunt is not ran by elimination style as not all dogs advance (only top 4). Therefore it falls under the rule that leaves it up to the club to determine (or in this case NHBA). The choices were 1. go run another hour or 2. flip a coin. UNDERSTAND I WAS NOT PART OF THE DECISSION MAKING. With the circumstances they were under there was not enough time to even run 30 min let alone an hour. Running the next day was not an option as they had a full hunt to put on the next day, that ended up finishing around dark also. I dont think they had a choice but to flip. I understand the frustration but in the end it was handled the right way per the rule book. Still stinks to lose that way.

just still a little new to the competition rabbit hunts.I always ran coonhounds and still do. I was at spring blutick days this past weekend running my Grand Nite female. And I also had beagle at nhba days. I just know from 20 years of coon hunting my self I never fliped a coin to settle a tie. Im sorry if ruffled anybody's feathers not my intentions. The serious coon hunter sometimes comes out a little strong.

John I don't know the format at all in the beagles, but if you are a serious coon hunter, you should know that the very last sentence in the tie breaking rules can call for a coin flip. It doesn't happen often, but it can.

U are exactly right Mr. Johnson. A tie break can be determined with a coin flip if all partys agree
