Tips to train a deaf puppy?!!!

I bought a pup at 4 months old. Once i got him home i realized he had a bad ear infection. So, i treated him for it. He is completely deaf. i was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a deaf dog.

Talktoem

I've been coonhunting many years and have never tried nor do I know anyone who has trained a deaf coondog. I would think if the genetics are in the pup that he should be natural. If this pup does figure it out you just may have the next World Champion. What causes many dogs to get beat is they have way to big of ears and it won't bother your dog at all. Good luck Talktoem and keep us updated.

I've always heard stories about a famous stud dog that couldn't take any pressure, and his owner blew his eardrums out with an air compressor.

Don't have any tips to train a deaf one, but pressure won't be a problem if you ever get him going.

I'm not sure I'd waste my time. A housedog? Yes. Hunting dog? No. You will never be able to call him in. Verbal correction is so important but that's out too.

Just mess with him like any other pup, if he's got it it'll come out.

Don't get discouraged, be patient.

Talktoem, as you know deaf puppies can be very frustrating at first!
However, because of his hearing loss, his Touch, Sight and Scent senses Will become Heightened for sure !!! These things Can give him a big edge over his competition in the woods, but only if he understands what you want out of him while he is learning to hunt. This is the most important rule I follow while working with a hearing impaired pup.

Physical discipline is a very week training method when it comes to Hearing Impaired puppies because if I use negative Physical discipline without the combination of an audible correction Cue (noise/word) I am simply confusing my puppy. So my training Must stem from a Positive reinforcement method to obtain understanding communication between us !!! Make sure to be patient and have fun with him until we talk when we do I'll give you the fundamentals I use to train them with !!!
This training is challenging at first and then it soon becomes some of the most rewarding, training/Hunting I have ever Done in my life !!!
Try to get with me Monday, lets see if we can get this pup Doing it To It !!!
I have taught many people and Dogs how to bridge the gap between hearing loss, while having fun doing it !!!

I have heard of dogs being taught sign language.I actually witnessed a neighbor doing this many years ago.
When in your proximity they also can and will respond to vibrations they feel through footsteps or perhaps another means you choose to get their attention.
My nephew once had a deaf cat. That cat could be in another room in the house sleeping. When that electric can opener would start whirring that cat would wake up and run to the kitchen. I seen it with my own eyes.

Except for it not being able to hear another dog , it can not be trained with other dogs in the usual way .It is not impossible. You will need to adapt and alter your method of starting him.
As far as being able to call him in.
A correction collar on vibrate mode can be exchanged for voice commands.Use a check cord along with a vibration until he recognizes the meaning of the vibration it is feeling that you want him to come to you.Dogs pick up on your body language quickly and you can use hand signals once it learns each step.
And give the dog more credit of intelligence. They can learn quickly and decipher for instance two vibrations or lengths of vibration for different commands. It will and can work.

People just need to use the brains born with instead of completely giving up before even giving it a chance.
