the legends liv on

Just got back from Iowa. Mr Jim Conger invited me down. He had hunted the wagner dogs for years. First drop the dogs all 6 opened and he said sounds like the old days. They treed and he was smiling from ear to ear. Going on 78 we headed to the truck. I turned and asked what river this was. the chills started when he said the skunk. First thing I thought of was Skunk River Nell. Who was George Ensmingers Good female. George handled dogs for Hans Wagner. He was a geinus when breeding the early Nightriders. Also a good freind of Mr Conger. Back to the truck and the dogs were up river 600 yrds treed again. Walking back to the truck best behaved dogs he ever hunted Jim he sure was bragging on those tree dogs. We treed coons every night. No possumms or off tracks. He was amazed I could handle 6 dogs. Says best mannered dogs he ever saw. That really made me proud. It was a pleasure hunting with him. Also treeing coon after coon in the heart of the origanal area where the Nightriders were born and run. Generations later still coonin like the dogs of the past. thanks for reading Tim
