Fred Sims Obituary

Fred was a good dog and mule man, a better person and a great friend.

Fred B. Sims, age 79, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 25, 2023, following a brief illness. Born Monday, August 16, 1943, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Manford & Virginia Frances Foley Sims. His loving spouse, whom he married Saturday, January 7, 1978, is Janice Garrison Sims of Waynesburg. Fred retired from GTE/Verizon and attended Double Springs Baptist Church. Fred was an avid coon hunter and loved his coonhounds, mules, and being the woods. He was a member of the National Treeing Walker Coonhound Association and a lifetime member of the American Coon Hunters Association. Fred also enjoyed going to horse shows. Above all, Fred loved being with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Fred leaves behind two sisters, Rita Sims Baughn of McKinney, Kentucky, and Sherry Tammy Sims of Somerset, Kentucky; in-laws, Lorraine Garrison Coyle (Kenneth) of Salvisa, Kentucky, David Scott Garrison (Melanie Caudill) of Stanford, Kentucky, Sandra Garrison Singleton (Rockey) of Waynesburg; and James Arthur Garrison (Phyllis Sims) of Waynesburg; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

Cremation Rites have been honored.

A Public Visitation will be held 12PM-1PM Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Double Springs Baptist Church.

A Public Memorial Service will be held 1:00PM Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the church. Bro. Jami Hamilton will officiate the service. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed on Fred’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website. Lee Currens, Mike Bastin and all Fred’s coon hunting and mule-loving friends will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Private Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
