If it’s in the dogs genetics it won’t be a problem. The dog may actually start and develop at a quicker rate than one at 6-8 mos old.
I don’t think it will make a noticeable difference in the end result.
I think there have been a lot of coon hounds that have actually been set back by starting to early. Some likely never reach their full potential. I also believe that young dogs mature at different rates depending on genetics and how they’ve been handled (or not!) when they’re young.
There’s been many a young dog ruined by being pushed to hard by an impatient handler.
I don't think it makes any difference years ago they didn't hunt alot of dogs until they were 2 years old.ive seen alot of young dogs get burnt out when there young never get any better or go backwards not saying all dogs are going to be like that but it happens.
years ago, i had a friend that bought a walker dog that was three years old.the dog had never been out of the pen. he bought it in the spring and hunted it all summer. that winter,it was his main coon hound.

Thanks for the reply. This female is 19 months old. Her sire is Cheyenne's Shack dog and she's out of a litter mate to Lane Denny's Shot dog who's out of Big Money and His World Champ Emmy. On her papers 2 world champs and 2 dogs who sired world champs. It may not make any difference but she's worth a shot. Have hunted her twice. She will go a big hunting, just doesn't know anything.
