I was just wondering if anyone on here uses Airedale Terriers for hunting big game? If you do, do you mind saying why you chose this breeds and maybe share your stories?

airdale

I tryed one a few years back he would not go with the hounds. He would fight a coyote or coon if you walked to the critter. He just would not go to the dogs.

I have a male airedale( my wifes dog) he is a nice bear and cat dog, the only problem I have with him is if I run him with other guys hounds , they want to fight with him, so if I go with someone else I leave him home. And yes it is the hounds that want to fight him, he is not mean to other dogs.
Kills coyotes by himself fast.Use him for decoying coyotes alot. Coons and bobcats don't stand a chance with him

Thank you both for your replies. We are a 4th generation family with this breed, however we have never hunted with them. I have always been curious to talk to someone who actually did hunt big game with this breed; to hear their inputs, their likes and dislikes for the breed. Again thank you for your answers.

Airdale's

I have owned several, Trained many a Light Foot coonhound with a Airdale female< Goldy>, I never hunted one of my Airdale's on Big Game so I cannnot say how the would have done. I doubt they would add much a to Top shelf Big Game pack. However when I retire I will again have a Airdale to work my pups and young dogs with.

I agree he doesn't excell above the hounds but he is fun to run with them, he doesn't have the tracking ability that the hounds do but he is a great tree dog and realy adds some grit on those bears.
