I have a 2900 Yaesu radio. I have only had it for a year. Recently it stopped working and continues to blow the fuse. Has anybody ever had this problem??? Any suggestions??? Thanks.

did you jump start another auto with the raidio on?

Sounds like a diode that is in line with with the main power in on the inside of the radio?? Should be easy to identify it if you take the radio apart. It will typically be a round black object located just on the other side of the power in with a light silver strip on it. Usually blows when getting jump started or jump starting someone else. Can be easily tested with an ohm meter.

Really hard to say without looking at the unit it could possibly be a transistor which would be a little harder to troubleshoot, even with the radio if you don't have the proper test equipment and diagrams. Check the diode first expecially if you have been jump started with radio on.....didn't start doing it after opening the radio up did it?

1st check the main power to the radio and make sure it has no problems like a skinned wire shorting to ground.

I use to work in the electronic field and have traveled all over this planet doing various work for local and goverment orginazations.

P.S. big fan of the Vertex / Yaesu radios nice radios, use to see the diode problem in mostly Johnson raidos thou.
