To all my fellow English breeders and fanciers I have posted this pedigree of Lizzie, not to boast about how she is bred, but to say THANK YOU!!!! to every person that has played a part in any hounds listed on her pedigree. We coon hunters do not get anywhere in this world by thinking we were the sole reason our hounds preform the way they do. You see, just as it takes a community to raise a child, it also takes a community, to produce the type hounds we enjoy following throughout our lifetimes.

I still have some additions to this pedigree, that I will add below as I have exhausted the space in am working in on my original post. But I sure want to say THANK YOU ALL who have given of you life and time to produce such great coon treeing traits as I get to enjoy while hunting this young hound. She is in NO WAY perfect, but she has found a way to put a little pep in my step as I go to each tree.

I am now 61 years old and I'm thinking this little gal may just be my last opportunity to win a world hunt with a hound that goes back to where I began. By the time she gets to old to compete, I'm thinking I will be also. ( if I haven't already got there) LOL. I know the odds are very long of my winning a world hunt, BUT I still have not given up on my childhood dream of doing so. This little gal may never get good enough to win, but I also realize with every world champion coonhound, you almost always have to catch a break to climb to the top of that hill, and maybe, just maybe, we will catch those one or two breaks along the way, that will allow us to bask in the land of coon hound heaven.

If any of you have knowledge of some of the missing pieces of this pedigree, please reply on this post and I will update the pedigree where it is lacking.

Again I want to personally THANK and RECOGNIZE every man, woman, and/or child that were a part of any hound on Lizzie's pedigree. And also I look forward to updating her pedigree and filling in the missing pieces as we continue on this journey.

May God continue to bless our lives in this land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE!!!!

This will be an extension of the pedigree listed above so that all can follow this linage back (in some cases) to the 50's


This first pedigree is the dogs behind my first registered dog that was put in my name. Kirkbride's Blue Rex was the Great grand daddy to Mayles Hooper Ridge Joy, that My Dad gave me back in 1976. Pappy knew if he didn't get me back into the hounds, women and drinking would probably be the death of me LOL. Mr. Freddy Kirkbride told me his story of how he and his friend took Hivnor's Blue Bell up to hunt with Mountain Music Blue, because she had the best nose of any hound in that area, and they wanted to see if Ole Blue could run a cold trail as good as she could. According to my dear old friend of yesteryear, Ole Mountain Music Blue showed them he had plenty of nose to match their dog, so they decided they would breed to him. I wish Ole Freddy were still here to tell that story again. There will be more additions to come. But I did want to personally thank My dear friends Jamie Grover and Robbie Thompson for bringing me a seven generation pedigree of Ole Holly's mother in hopes that it would help me fill in this pedigree. Thanks to both of you as it has been a big help.

The Hooper Ridge Wicked Lizzie and I hit the timber tonight. Some was frustrating and some was maybe showing some promise of good things to come. LOL'

Get to my spot, deer running on both sides of the road, Bad deal if I cut her from the road. Walk her in 100 yards or so opposite direction from the way the deer went. Cut loose Lizzie strikes within 100 yards, takes track pretty good pace around a hill into the next hollow and is now warming it up to near warp speed. I'm starting to get a little nervous that maybe she ran into a deer that I didn't know was there. She brings this track back over the hill into the hollow I turned her loose in, drives straight across that hollow and shuts up for maybe 1 minute. Then starts barking treed but not sounding right so I'm thinking she may be barking over a rock hole. After a couple minutes of this I decide to go get her out of that hole. When I get to her I see her standing on a tree. As I snap the leash on her I see her throw her head straight back over her back and keep treeing like she is winding the coon. I'm now thinking, Maybe she does have it.

But after looking it over NO coon is there. I see a monster tree 30 yds down the hill below me. Now I'm thinking maybe that danged coon is sitting down there and she is backed up the hill on this tree where she can smell it better. No coon on that tree either. I lead her around the point 250 yards or so and attempt to shoot her up the next hollow. Guess what?, She flips below me and goes straight back to the area I just lead her out of. I'm sitting there listening to her bang around again on that tree and then start treeing like she is going to stay. I'm now headed back and thinking of all the ways a man can correct his dog for returning to a previously scored tree, LOL. When I get to her I see she is NOT on the same tree and has the coon. When I get to looking around I see that she is only about 30 yds left of the original tree.

I knew she acted like that danged coon was sitting there somewhere, but she originally missed the tree by about 30 yards. When she figures out how to use that winding ability with precision, I will have some fun in the hunts, LOL

Thank You Steve. You know whats kinda funny is that I didn't really realize just how much Junior blood I had in her until I put this full pedigree together. I knew the Old Beech River hounds were the foundation of the Swamp Rooster line, and my old original hounds trace back 4 generations to Mountain Music Blue ( which I have not listed yet) and I'm pretty certain Ole Beech River Sputnick goes back to Mountain Music Blue as well, but i guess I didn't realize how much Junior blood was in the Timber Valley & Wilcox dogs of today.

Another legendary English dog that goes back to Mountain Music Blue, was a dog called Nations Tapp. I'm pretty sure Ole Tapp and Beech River Sputnick were bred similar on one side. via Mountain Music Blue. And as the History of these speckled hounds progress we know that Mountain Music Blue was also a foundation dog of many Bluetick lines today. The one strain that come to my mind is the Smokey River Blueticks. If my old memory serves me correctly, Smokey River Blue Diamond Jim was either a grand pup or a great grand pup to Mountain Music Blue.

yes i live near Mr. Ray Jewell who raised jewell's tapp and merks tapp ,he breed his toad female to nations tapp he talked about the tapp line going back to smokey river bluetick dogs also toad went back to the nolin river line of walker breeding she was single reg. english.i hunted with all three years ago- treedogs...

Wow Steve, I'm sure you now feel it was an honor to have hunted with those hounds and hunters. Mr Jewell is a man I have read about for many years, and he sure has played a significant role in the breeding of the hounds we get to enjoy today. It sure would be an honor for me to meet this man, and maybe one day I will. I hope you still get the chance from time to time to talk coon hounds with him. I bet that would be a real treat.

A couple years ago at English Days i finally got the opportunity to meet Mr. Erwin Massengill. A man from this area met him somehow and became friends with him. As a matter of fact that is where my Dad got his first registered dog, was through this man that was friends with Mr. Massengill. And that is where my line started from was that dog that came from Mr. Massengill's. This man passed a few years back but I got to mention this mans name to Mr. Massengill, and he not only remembered this man, but also remembered the cross that my Dads friend got the pup from. I thought that was pretty cool.

yes i know Ray Jewell have hunted with him several times yrs ago he is no longer hunting,Ray Jewell and Joe Nation- Joe had (Nations Tapp) are responsible for making the cross that reproduced the 2 Tapp dogs Ray had. i met Joe Nation a couple times also.
The Tapp line of dogs is what ive built my kennel around through the years and i am still hunting this bloodline,along with some other bloodlines,ive had a lot of good luck with the wildfire breeding of Gayle Flowers a lot of wildfire's breeding came of Ray's neck of the woods....
a few years ago English Days was held a elizabethtown ky. and i was making my around and seen Joe Nation,Eugene Boyd and Gayle Flowers getting there picture made for the year book Hall of Fame ,so i kinda slipped in beside Gayle Flowers and asked if i could get a picture made with them so i got the picture with them,i have that picture hanging up now i was honored to get it with these 3 hall of fame members and they are also good friends of mine...

You guys are right! Tons of great blood there and it always makes me sit back and think about all the guys behind the hounds that plowed the ground for the rest of us so to speak. I think every one of us dream of making the big impact on the English breed like our heroes mentioned above have. I remember back in the day my Daddy hunted with one of the founding fathers of ACHA (Clovis Stanfill ) who lived near us and owned Beech River Sputnik. My dad had lots of the beech river blood back then. My Daddy (Gerald James) had a real good line of his own hounds back then but the blood got away from us over the years and i sure regret that. I recall hunting as a kid on a buddy hunt at our local club one time and it was me and my teenage buddy and Clovis and his buddy. Back then we had no trackers or fancy gadgets. We treed a couple coons and i have yet to see my dog. I was so excited to be getting
to hunt with a guy that had in my opinion famous dogs that i had forgot to open the box for my dog to get out. Funny thing was our cast won the hunt with the biggest coon and my poor ole mutt never left the box. The door was not latched i just didnt pull it open and he never bothered to try and get out. Ole Clovis sure got a kick outta that once we was back at the truck. He told everyone at the club we could have really put a smoking show on if we had hunted all our dogs. It's great to reflect on the old blood lines of hounds and the many great men who helped mold us all into the men we are today. Without question we owe them lots of respect and gratitude. Great line of hounds you've got Dave enjoy the heck out of them!

WOW that would have been awesome!! I have had the honor of meeting Mr. Gale Flowers and what a fine man he is. Mr. Flowers is another gentleman that I would love to cut a hound loose with. I have talked to him a few times over the past 10 years at English days and he reminds me so much of my Dad, in that he strikes me as a man that is ready to go hunting most every night somebody stops by to go.

I drew a dog off of Mr. Flower's line several years ago that was a real dandy. I think they called him Easy Money Elmo. What a great cast we had. My dog and his dog split on every drop that night and both would have a coon. It was a great cast. Think that dog got killed shortly after that but he was the real deal.

Keep that good Tapp blood coming cause one of these days in the not too distant future myself and many others will be needing a strain that can still tree a bad track. That line has proven it can still get it done.

Dave, How great that must have been to have hunted with Mr. Stanfill. I would probably have been just as excited as you and wondering where my ole pot licker had went to. I have a few more dogs to add to the Beech River side of Lizzie's pedigree, but if you see a mistake I have made or you have an addition to what I have posted, please feel free to point it out to me so that I can correct/add to her pedigree.

I remember reading s couple stories about this man. You are so right about all these men paving the way for us. I would love to mention them ALL but I'm sure if I tried I would leave out someone that played a significant role in one strain or another. I simply know I have been blessed to have been introduced to this brotherhood/sisterhood of coon hunting and the many good folks I have had the opportunity to meet along the way. This little Lizzie female acts an aweful lot like her momma, but only time will tell if she can actually fill her shoes, LOL.

Doug, so good to see your getting along good and keeping busy. I bet Ole Sampson is really turning the corner of being a complete hound at this stage in his training. I bet that rabbit hunting is a blast. I used to love to do it but got too old to tramp the brush all day and the big woods at night, lol.

We have been lucky in that we have not yet had a significant snow fall that would stop us from hunting if we wanted to. I haven't hunted real hard in December with deer season and the holidays running consecutive to each other, but look out the first of the week if the weather holds out.

Thank You so very much James!! Had her out last night hunting her by herself. She ended up treeing two singles on the outside, One den and one tree right about 600 yards to the next road treed RIGHT behind a mans house. I mean within 50 yards. Needles to say I didn't take the time to light that tree up, but I didn't seen any clumps against the skyline that would make me think I seen a coon, LOL.

She and I slid off the face of that point, LOL. It was only 30 yards or so back to the property we had permission to be on, but I sure didn't feel the need to explain what my dog was barking at, so I scooped her up and slid down of that point and hiked the 1/2 mile back to the truck. Oh did I mention that I had lost my lead strap on the 1st coon she treed. It was in a god awful multi-floral rose thicket. Briars so thick when the coon hit the ground Ole lizzie couldn't get through the briars to get to the coon. By the time i got my way fought in to kick a hole to where she could get to the coon it had taken off. I put her on the track and she caught that rascal on the bottom side of this thicket and the fight was on!! By the time I backed out, fought my way around to the lower side and back into this thicket, I had lost my strap somewhere along the way. And to make a long story short, I never did find that thing, so I had to lead Lizzie that 1/2 mile back to the truck, using only my belt. Oh and did I mention we were hunting old strip mine land. It was Ugly!! LOL.

I was hoping Chris and myself would get down to hunt with you before the season ends, but we will just have to wait and see if we can get our schedules to link up.
