The UKC has also set up 2 forums for X bred Studs and puppies to be sold. I'm really wanting to see this work, I've seen some really nice X bred dogs in the past .

Are they going to let you register adult dogs as crossbreeds? Or do they have to have both parents registered? I have a 4 year old Black and Tan without papers that i would like to have the opportunity to put in competition hunts.

Any hound that doesn't meet the BREED standards of the 7 other UKC Hound breeds can now be registered as X Bred. Well coming Jan. 1st 2015.

X Breed wins the world

I think it would be great if the next world champ. or purina coonhound of the year is won by an X-Breed hound. I would like it to be a black dog with two white paws. I feel like a kid again, thats all we had was X-Breed hounds. The good old days are here again.

One of the best I've ever had was 1/2 walker 1/4 redbone and 1/4 cur he had a red blanket back and red head with short ears. Tree anything that went up, day or night. I was 16 and a possum was just as much fun as a coon, just as long as he got treed.
I will admit he didn't reproduce worth a hoot, but he was a lot of fun to hunt.

congratulations

Thank you UKC for allowing what many breeders have always wanted, that being a way to track the pedigrees on their favorite hounds and also a way to compete . Purebred or x-cross we all should support houndsmen and the sport.

I believe they got this one right! Opens the door to a lot of folks and the opportunity to try some crosses with the characteristics we might not have done the way it was before. Good job ukc!

Excellent

This is a very good move by UKC. I was wondering what kind of crosses are you planning on making. If you make a cross are you doing it because it is the new fab or trying to make the complete hound that you have seen to different breeds and like both qualities just never could get it as 1 breed?

I would like to see and hear about other peoples x-breed projects also. I honestly didn't think this would happen. We are very thankful it has. It is a smart move. Our vet is always recommending to us to out breed because it seems every time they treat one of our dogs in the past it is for a potentially genetic related issue of which there are many. There is just no way to really or very limited means to do that anymore and stay within your breed. I don't think people realize all the different very common poor health issues that can be inherited. I have two fairly promising projects this year in training. One is a pure breed 4 month old and the other is out of our second X-Breed in the past year and a half. He is 9 months old. His name is Jack. He has a half sister Teak we like a lot. This will be her first full season coming. This is Jack treeing and his sister. Both half B&T and walker.
