Really?
I honestly believe it to be very similar to the "Bird Dogs" and "Rabbit Dogs" events that UKC hosts...
Let's look at the beagles....Yes, they all hunt rabbits, but there are different "divisions" of field trials to satisfy for different "styles" of dogs. Small Pack, Large Pack, Brace, and Hunting Beagles.
Each of these different "divisions" have events, with rules that cater to different "styles" of dogs that accomplish the same thing...they run rabbits....
If one was to think about it critically, the curs typically operate (by operate I mean they hunt with a different style) differently from the Fiest. That does not make one breed "superior" to the other, just differently. And taking two different "styles" and lumping them together because they accomplish the same goal does not make them the same type of dog even if they are after the same game.
I truly don't think for one minute that it is a sign of inferiority or weakness that the types of dogs are split up....there are other registries that split the draw by weight, and I don't see any huge uproar there..... For the most part the feist guys were not participating anyway....
I get it, change is hard for all of us.... but if UKC wants to take interest in the cur/feist program and make changes to it in the hope that it will grow, and bring folks to the events that may not have ever dreamed of going to a UKC hunt, why would anyone have issues with that.....
