...

Yup, that's what the standards are for where it concerns bench shows.

Disqualifications
(A dog with a Disqualification must not be considered for placement in a bench show/conformation event, and must be reported to UKC.)
Unilateral or bilateral cryptorchid.
Viciousness or extreme shyness.
Albinism.
A dog that is more than one-third white.
Excessively long hair, silky or wavy hair.
Overshot or undershot bite.
Deafness.
Blindness.
Any color or combination of colors other than described.

It's a fault, but not a disqualification. Also, dogs in the puppy class (under 12 months) are not to be faulted for being under height standard.

Haley, that's a great answer and very true as I understand it.

Why would you want to promote something that is outside the standard?

Dan, I'm surprised you would even go there with that question it might be a super dog or a throw back shucks who knows it could be a great dog other then its an inch one way or the other. Compared to a dog that's out side of the color standard tied behind a barn that's a super dog that someone wants to use in the Gene pool. LOL

Thought we were just talking about the bench show. I don't know what the dog is like in the woods.

If the first principle of a bench show is to show a dog that most closely approaches the ideal of perfection, laid out in the breed standard, then showing a dog that walks on with a huge fault is antithetical to the first principle of the show.

When you elevate the lesser to the greater the greater is lessened, not the other way around.

I guess I jumped a little to soon. It depends on two things. Is H DOG a member of the ALBA and does the ALBA allow dogs to be registered that are out side the breed standard? I don't have a copy of the current bylaws, so I can not say what the current rules are...which also means I shouldn't be answering at all. It's just that no one else seems to be stating the proper route to take to answer the question. Aren't you glad to have a busy-body like me around?
