Proper conditioning, good hydration, hunt them empty, and keep extra weight off of them.

They are still going to be hot in the summer, but that will keep it from being dangerous. Feed has nothing to do with it in my experience

Run your dog thin in hot weather. Keep feeding a good nutrious feed. Don't worry about your dog running out of steam since extra weight will hurt them worse than anything in hot weather. Adjust your feed amounts by amount of exercise and weather.

Hunt regularly and keep the weight down and food shouldn't have much to do with it.

I had a female that would run hot in the summer and I had the best luck feeding her food without corn. I fed the yellow bag Victor or the orange bag Valu-Pak.

I feed dog food that corn is not the first ingredient. Mine now is 3rd. Even oin hot weather, they get a warm, but recover quickly.

Lower protein food , high quality, I use mostly eukanuba 26 protein in summer. I wait until 2am or so to take dogs out so it is cooler out. If it is above 65 degrees I just make it a quick run, There is alot of cold spring fed creeks by me to get them a drink also. This is much nicer to run dogs than the long cold winters.

Dogs Running Hot

My background is engineering and nutrition. AS WITH MOST TOPICS THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT ARE TOTALLY TRUE OR FALSE.
A mammal creates body heat when digesting food. FOOD THAT IS HARD TO DIGEST PRODUCES MORE BODY HEAT THAN EASY TO DIGEST FEED. Examples are all meat ingredients like hair, hide, bones, feathers, and grizzly in cereal free dog feed. In dog feeds containing grains the cereal products should be fully cooked so that the starch is 100% gelatinized and then is digestible. When comparing Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat for digestibility they have found that fat is more digested with less body heat followed by fully cooked carbohydrates, corn, and Meat Protein or meat byproducts produce the most body heat when digested.
Use common sense and feed your dog after the hunt! Do not feed a dog feed that gives them the shits as that produces dehydration.
All meat dog feeds can vary more in digestibility and salt content than feeds with cereals and grains.
All production plants have operators just like you and me. If the employee producing your dog feed on Monday morning didn't get any sleep because ol' DEEP and ALONE got mad at you then I assure you the the Quality Control on the batch of feed that your bag came from was less than normal. JUST MY OPINION Ken Risley

Best hot weather dog feed

Generally speaking feed a lower protein dog feed, but maintain a 18 or higher fat content. Meat should be the first ingredient on the list.
Grains or cereal products should be fully cooked. RAW starch products like corn, wheat etc are only about 60% digestible and create body heat as do all ingredients that are difficult to digest. Most feeds are extruded, which are cooked under heat and pressure. Feeds that are extruded can kill toxins from meat ingredients if processed at a high enough temperature.
