John Cox's Cain now deceased and my Jet dog. McDill's Dixie and Pride looked real good a few years ago. Pride is dead and Dixie is old but she still looked pretty good back in Dec.

Uncle Buck has no problem going the distance to get treed with the Meat . At the Battle of Breeds this past Year , Buck was thru the country right at 1 1/4 mile alone with a coon .

Ganus Hoosier Blue Jug in his day he is old but still will hunt hard now.. In his day he was one of the hardest of any breed.. Sport is starting to catch up with him.. I was there and seen Uncle Buck at the Battle of the Breeds go and he did a great job..Got in there a mile and a qaurter..

My Chug dog will go till he trees if I let him.I trained him with an old Gr.Nt. Walker female I had with no reverse. He would be that way if I let him.Since I have my Garmin to watch him with I tone him with my Tri-Tronics when he gets out as far as I want and he,s smart enough to circle back around.I think a lot of these Leopard dogs would range as far as any dog.Its all in how their trained and what you start hunting them with.My Skye female will get deep if necessary too.I,ve had her tree a mile from where I turned her loose.

Deacon can put some distance on from what I hear. When you cut Sport loose he's going to get gone and get to work immediately. I didn't see him skipping anything along the way when I hunted with him. My dog Ganus' Hoosier Insane Jane (Annie) will go to the game where ever it may be. The Harvey dog I have is good for around 700+ yards if game is thin.

There are plenty of hard hunting dogs out there. The nice thing is that of all the hard hunting leopards I've seen, none of them skip tracks just to put on the distance.

Minten's old Jughead dog would grab an old track and move a couple of sections over with it occationally. He would kick gravel up getting out of there also.

My Rachel (deceased) would bust off of the tailgate and get treed before the other dogs knew they were loose yet. She was never wrong either.

Ganus has a male named Ruger that gets gone and treed. Chyna was in that same category.

Most of these dogs had big noses and lots of confindence to go with it.

This thread cracks me up. Two or three years ago everybody acted like a dog that would actually hunt beyond a mile was the worst thing that could happen to the breed. Now apparently everybody has one. LMAO! Deep and Lonely!!!!!! The only kind I ever want to hunt!

It's especially silly when you think of how far Loepards that are hunted on big game will go to get treed. 4-10 miles is not at all uncommon. It has quite a bit to do with the way the dogs are trained.

I started my Annie dog running deer every day for two months and then reigned her back in with some beep tone training. When the two months were up I broke her off of deer. She is a very good coon and bobcat dog now. If you want a big hunting dog hunt it with big hunting dogs or come up with a training idea that will get them out there. If you want them in closer, train them to the beep tone and pull 'em in. It's awfully easy with a garmin tracker in hand.

My Jake pup i got off Jason Abbott wanted to hunt a little wider than i wanted so i used a Garmin and tone training to reel him in a tad. I dont want my dogs hunting any deeper than 600 to 700 yards here where i live. Tends to keep them , and me out of trouble . lol

I count the tone function of the tri-tronics training collar as my most valuable tool for training and it's that much more valuable along with the Garmin. Together, they are unbelievably effective and if I'm wrong about what they are running there seems to be no harm done where the dog is concerned. It's a lot better than shocking a dog off of good game by accident.

You can train them out or in though I would rather train them in as it's easier for me.

Your right on the training method Dan. I wont turn a dog loose without both a tri-tronics collar and a Garmin collar.These two devices have made coon hunting so much more enjoyable. I remember the days 30 years ago of only knowing where the dogs were if you were in hearing distance. I also remember having to drive around looking for lost dogs for several days and never finding some of them.A lot of people quit coon hunting after a few trips back then. If those same people had the chance to go today with this newer equipment on the dogs a lot of them would probably stay with it.Before the reliable shock collars became available a good whipping was the most commonly used form of trash breaking. It worked to some extent but it also created bad habits of its own.Dogs would get afraid of you and some would become hard to catch.Others would go off and hide after bumping trash to escape the whipping that they knew was coming.The Tri-Tronics with the tone button is the best training tool to ever come out period.The Garmin is the next best training aid. I,ve still got my old beep beep tracking system but it doesn,t get much use anymore.

Well as most of you know I haven't said much about my Country Dog as far as how he hunts but I will now say I would put him in the Category of getting in dark in a hurry and going Deep if he needs to!
