Tramp 11 @ Ms. State Championship

Thank you Mr. Steve Bankston, Mr. Bill Goode, Mr. Scott VH and Mr. Ed Mauney for your congrats on Tramps win at the Ms. State hunt. The trophies and all don't mean as much as they use to, but when you guys come on here and congratulate me or shake my hand when I see you and say congratulations for some kind of accomplishment I've had with these hounds, That's what its all about and I feel the same way about you and your accomplishments with your dogs. I wish you the best ---------Jack

Tramp

I took tramp out for a short run last night. I cast him around an ole lake. He struck pretty quick and didn't go far and treed. He did a good job, but he didn't sound to good. I guess that trip to the State Hunt had worked on him pretty hard. I shot the coon out to him and we called it a night. I guess I'll lay him up a couple days and see if that helps.

Sheba and Gin

Took sheba and Gin out for a couple of drops last night. Two young guys went with me last night. Clayton and me own Doll V. She is in season right now. Chris Fortenberry was also along with us last nite. Chris and Clayton are real good hunters, and love the game of coonhunting. Sheba and Gin did a real good job on two coon. We came back to Claytons house and I told them I felt like I was coming down with a cold and I was going to call it a nite. They were going to pick up Doll 1V and go again. I haven't heard yet how they did.

Hey Mr. Jack!!

It's good to see your back at it. Not that you ever quit!HA Jack how is O'neal doing? Boy you talking about sick to your stomach, I called them after the hurricane to check on them and that's when his wife told me of his unfortune. He was one heck of a good hunter and really knew dogs.

Mr. Roger Smith, thank you for the congrats. It is a real shame about Oneal. He can talk dogs with you just like he always could and he remembers all the dogs and hunts he has ever had, but he is paralyzed from the neck down and Jerry says he will never be any better. Oneal was a good hunter and he dearly love it. He always had a top dog. He loves god and his family and friends. I sure miss having him going to the hunts with Jerry and me. He is one of the few that I know that loved to eat more than me. Take care Mr. Roger and thank you for thinking about Oneal. Hope you and your hounds are doing great.

Thank you for the congrats Mr. Heard. Glad that you enjoy my post. Hope you and your hounds are doing well. Take care------Jack

Steve, Thank you for checking up on me, but I am fine, My computer has been down, and it still is, a friend of mine wasn't using hers so she let me borrow hers until I get mine out of the shop. I have been hunting quite a bit. Clayton, Chris and myself went Tuesday night and made three trees and shot out a big boar coon. We had Sheba, doll V and Gin with us. We went again Wednesday night and had a real good hunt. The first tree had 4 coons in it and then we made 3 more trees that each had singles in them that we looked at. Sheba is sure looking good after her 7 months lay off. It will still take a couple of months to get her back in full form. Doll V is looking good also. Gin has gotten her a couple of possums lately. It looks like me and her is going to have to come to an understanding about that. I been letting Tramp have some time off trying to get his throat straitened out, But we will be back in the woods about next week.

hunting

Jack, About the same up here we have been getting out quite a bit with Creek. Just been running her solo since the season started. Been knocking some out of her. Hides are not worth a whole lot so probably will only shoot a few out this year and save them to run again. Nice to hear Sheba is getting back into it. Sounds like she is a nice one. Hope you can come to an understanding with Gin on the possums. I would like to see a picture of her sometime if possible. Her mother is doing fine up here in this cold weather. It was 12 here this morning but supposed to get even colder here this week. Then we got the 9 day deer gun season and we will be back in the woods again.
Take Care,
Scott

Good to hear from you. Glad to hear Creek is doing good. I like that little female. Sheba is doing good, she is not completely back in form yet. We are going to a local nite hunt tonight. I will probably hunt Sheba and I think Clayton will probably hunt Doll V, That's Tramps litermate sister. This will be her first competition hunt. We'll see how they do. there suppose to be some rain coming in sometime tonight. I sure hope it aint like what you and I hunted in @ the Fall round Up. Take care Scott good hunting

Me and Chris and Clayton traveled to Brookhaven, Ms. last night to the Lincoln Co. CHA nite hunt. Jeremy went to Bay Springs to their hunt with Shadow. Chris Handled Sheba and Clayton handled Doll V. This was Chris and Claytons first time to handle dogs in a nite hunt and they both did a good job. I tagged along with Chris and I was amazed at how quickly he caught on to be a good handler. Chris and clayton are both good dog men that enjoy the sport of coonhunting. Nobody won anything, but there is still a lot of leaves on and it was dry and the coons just were not moving and the tracks that we did get on must have moved in the afternoon. We are getting a good rain tonight so that should make everything better.

Tramp and Sheba

Chris came over tonight and we took Tramp and Sheba out for a short run. 1st drop they went in about 300 yrds and was headed toward a black top road so we went around and picked them up. 2nd drop we went to the river and headed them down a small branch. they went in about 750 yrds and hit a cold track and moved it a couple hundred yrds and treed on The bank of the river. It was a steep bluff there going down to the river and the other side was thick so we couldn't get to where we could see the tree. we didn't shine long and we decided to move on up the swamp. 3rd drop we cast them up an old slough and they went in a couple hundred yrds and struck another cold track. They moved it in a ways and crossed the slough which was about 75 yrds wide and treed on an island on the other side. The slough had more water in it tonight than it has had due to the rain that we had sunday night. you had to be careful to keep from going over your boots. They were treed like they had him and I believe they did. They were treed up a large oak. But we never could get him to look. On the way back across the slough Chris got wet and it was in the low 20s so when we got back to the 4-wheelers. We decided to call it a night.-----11-17-14

Sheba and Tramp

Chris and I took Sheba and Tramp out for another run tonight. We traveled over across the river to one of chris's leases. We turned them loose and they went in about 250 yrds. and struck an ole feeder track. They worked it for about 20 min. They bumped up one tree and moved on another 100 yrds. and treed solid. We went to them and they were treed up a large oak, and we didn't have any trouble finding the coon. There were three coons there and we shot one out to the hounds. We came back to the 4-wheelers and moved on up the swamp. We cast them again a little farther up the swamp. They hit a hot track and didn't go far and treed solid. We walked in to the and they were treed up another oak. We tied the dogs and found the coon rather quickly. We decided to leave this one to run again. We went back to the 4-wheelers and moved on up the swamp and cast the dogs again. They went in about 350 yrds and struck another cold track. They worked the track in another 200 yrds and treed. We walked in to them and shined the tree for a while but decided that they had missed this one. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and decided to call it a night. We had had a good hunt--------11-21-14

Sheba and Doll V

Chris and I along with his son Cody took Sheba and Doll V out for a run tonight. We went down to a place just south of here. We turned the dogs into a real pretty strip of woods and they went in about 300 yrds and struck a real cold track and warmed it up pretty quick and treed right out in the middle of a big slough. I don't know how big this slough was, but we road the 4-wheelers a good ways to get around it and when we got as close as we could get the dogs were still about 100 yrds out in the slough so we started wadding, you had to be careful or you would get over your boots. We could see the coon long before we got to the tree. we decided to knock this one out to the houndsand afterward made our way back to the 4-wheelers. We moved on up the swamp and made another drop. The dogs went in about 400 yrds and struck another cold track. they worked it in there for a while and treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up a large pine close to the bank of the river. It was hard to get to where you could see any part of the top of the tree. We shined for a while without seeing any eyes so we decided to move on down the river. We got in next to the river farther down and turned loose again. The dogs struck another cold track about 500 yrds up the river. We listened for a few minutes and decided to get closer. We rode up a sand bar that took us pretty close to the dogs and were just sitting there talking and we heard something make a splash in the river. There was a small bluff and some trees between us and the river. I just thought a beaver had made the splash in the river close to where we were sitting, but the dogs were beginning to trail back toward us and the track was getting better, and when they got to where we had heard the splash things really began to pick up. We ran in to where the dogs were and caught them. We didn't know where the coon had crossed the river or not, but we were not going to take the chance. There is suppose to be some bad weather moving in here after midnight so we decided to call it a night, but before I do I would like to say that Cody I think is only about 10 or 11 years old and he is one tough little fellow. He handled Doll V all night and would not let you help him, some time I didn't know which one was leading the other, but Cody hung in there. I would like to say that Cody is now the proud owner of a pup out of Gr.Ch.Nite Ch."PR" Misty River Blue Sheba and Ch.Gr. Nite Ch."PR" Goodsons Rowdy Bocephus. He was one proud little boy. He named him Rowdy You will be hearing more about these two.

Sounds like your getting some hunting in. Looks like you got some rain down there. Our snow here has melted with a couple of warmer days but we are on the bench for another week with the deer season in. Glad to here you are getting your Sheba and Bocephus pups in some hunters hands.
Take Care,

Good to hear from you. All The pups out of Bocephus and Sheba are gone now except the little female that I kept. I think where they are at they will haave a chance to make it. All the pups look and act good, time will tell.

Tramp, Sheba and Gin

Hunted these three over across the river near Morgan town. Chris brought his two boys along tonight and we had a good hunt especially me. Chris handled Sheba and the two boys handled Tramp and Gin and all I had to do was tag along. We made three trees. The dogs did a good job. We looked at one coon. I think they had another one, we just couldn't find him and I think they missed the last one. We called it a night and I think those boys were asleep before we got out of the woods. They had a right to be tired. They had done a good job handeling those dogs.-------11-25-14

Tramp and Doll V

Chris came over tonight and we made a short hunt. 1st drop. They left on the run didn't go far and struck a hot track, moved it in another 50 yrds and treed. We walked in to them and found the coon. We left it to run again. I don't know about everywhere else, but the coons seem to be getting scarce in my neck of the woods and I don't kill very many, never have. Usually where you have an abundance of coon you see a lot of them ran over on the roads. It has been a long time around here since I,ve seen a coon that was ran over on the roads. 2nd drop we turned them down a small branch. The dogs went in about 150 yrds and struck a good track moved it in another 100 yrds and treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up a large Turkey Pine. There were other large and smaller trees growing around it and you could never get to where you could see it. So we loaded the dogs and moved on down the swamp. We turned them up an ole dry slough. the went in about 700 yrds and struck a good track, moved it in about another 200 yrds. We couldn't hear them to good. We thought that they were treed. We walked in toward them, stopping and listening every now and then, but we couldn't hear anything out of the dogs and they were not moving. We finally made it in to them and saw what had happened. They had caught the coon on the ground. We petted them up some and headed back to the 4-wheelers loaded the dogs and called it a night.----11-28-14

Tramp

Took Tramp back to one of my old hunting grounds. A place where I use to hunt his ole dad Gr. Ch. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Smokey river Jeans Blue Tramp, sure brought back a lot of good memories. Chris and some of the guys I usually hunt with were going to a competition hunt so I decided this was a good time for me and Tramp 11 to venture back in there. Its all posted now, but come to think of it. I think it was posted back when me and old Tramp use to hunt there. I try to get back in there and hunt once or twice a year, but I haven't been in there in several years until tonight, its still a pretty place to hunt. 1st drop I turned Tramp loose and he went in about 250 yrds and hit a pretty good track and moved it in another 200 yrds and treed. I got my rifle and walked in to him. He was treed up a large water oak. I shined for a little while before I found him. He would not look, but I finally found him and rolled him out. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and put the coon up, went a little farther up the swamp and turned Tramp loose again. He went in about 200 yrds and struck a cold track and worked it about another 300 yrds and treed up another water oak. I thought I saw the coon one time, but I couldn't find him again. We went back to the 4-wheeler and moved on up the swamp a ways and turned Tramp loose again. He went in about 300 yrds and just treed. I walked in to him, I saw the coon a good ways before I got to the tree. He was just sitting up there looking. I rolled this one out to Tramp also. I remembered where we were hunting at. We had already had a good hunt. and I didn't want to push it so we called it a night.-------11-29-14

Makes you feel young again to go on that posted land don't it MR. Jack?!! I know it does me but you gotta watch those dang game cameras. Deer hunters have more of them out than they do posted signs. Camera get a picture of you, your a pretty recognizable guy they might come a knocking! If you get into any trouble don't have all the fun by yourself, call me and i will get on over there and help you out! Take Care and Good Hunting!

Congratulations Jeremy and Shadow

Jeremy and Chris took Shadow and Sheba over to ovett, Ms. last night and hunted in their UKC hunt and show. Jeremy entered Shadow in the bench show and won the Champion part of the show. Then they entered Shadow and Sheba in the hunt. They are both Nite Champions and they only had 4 nite champions there so they had to hunt togeather, the other two dogs were walker dogs. Jeremy said they were nice dogs. Shadow won the Nite Ch. part of the hunt.

Steve, I know what you are talking about on posted land and cameras. I get my picture took pretty often on land where I have permission to hunt, but I just soon not get my picture took on posted land. I really don't like to get my picture took on land where I have permission. I just as soon go in and out without with out any one knowing Ive been there. Take care Steve I'll be calling you in a day or so.

Thank you so much, Ole Tramp was a powerful hound. How is your Bullet 11 dog doing. I'm trying to find some time to work Rain(Rebel & Sally) She has treed a couple of coons here in the pen. I will start working her outside this week. I've been so tied up with these other young dogs. I just havn't had time to work her, but I will. I like her and everything she has done so far.

Mr Jack, I sure do enjoy reading your posts! It's so refreshing to hear about real hunts, instead of ol'so and so sure put on a show tonight, blah, blah, blah. Lol!! I'm glad to see some youngsters involved and they couldn't learn from a better guy than you!! I wished we lived closer, I'd like to learn some myself.... Take care my friend and happy huntin.
