Hello to all! My name is Bill and this is Ruby. We're from central Wisconsin. Ruby was born on 05-21-12 at T-Top Kennels from Sire: NITECH "PR" T-Top Northwoods Yankee; and Dam: NITECH "PR" Browns Leinie Red Rider. Picked Ruby up from Tom in September 2012 and we could not be happier with her. I'm new to coon dog training...and coon hunting for that matter. Last fall Tom invited me over to his place to hunt with him, Dave, and a few young fellas. That was my first coon hunt and what a hoot it was and great people they are!!!
Last year I was doing drag training with her and she was doing well. So I decided to trap a coon for her. Unfortunately it was a very large coon, bout as big as Ruby at the time and she didn't want any part of it. Ran back into her kennel and would not come out! Tom recommended trapping a smaller one. Well, winter came and I didn't want to keep a coon in the hutch so training stopped for the post part.
Ruby is now around 14 months old. I just recently trapped a smaller coon. This past week we've been working it. She didn't run away from the caged coon this time but wouldn't necessarily show much interest other than a whine or two. Had my wife bring out her shih-tzu, aka "Piglet." Piglet doesn't know she's small and she tore after the caged coon. While I was praising and loving up Piglet, Ruby couldn't stand it anymore and got after the caged coon too!
So at this point I've just been trying to follow Tom's training books to a "T" and hoping for the best. Thanks for reading and looking forward to being part of your community!
The first pic is from late last year and the other 2 are from this past week.
