03/31 hunt

Hunted Morgan's Woods tonight. 32 and frosty but a nice still night, moon was pretty bright. Bluspek struck 50 yards off the tailgate. Could see muddy tracks in the snow where the coon came down for a drink.

Made a second drop Blu went deep and ran a track South East back towards Morg's Sugar Shack I knew just where he was goin have run that coon last couple years. Takes the ditch by the sugar shack, crosses under the road in a culvert then dens 1/4 mile down the ravine, Sure enuff that's where we ended. We will get that coon some fall! Great night to be out! Going with my buddy tomorrow to get his new Plott pup in the woods.

Thanks Ed. Not trying to push him but he loves to go! Not treeing yet but shows interest and smells up tree and gets excited. Have to remember he's not quite 6 mos old yet! Im watching him close I don't believe in pushing a dog too early just make it fun then single him out. Those Sammy pups are smart pups I sure like him. I can tell him go get in your pen and he does it. OK I will be quiet now, LOL!

Samson has a pair of good coaches that should bring out the best of him !!
I agree keep it fun and always try to end on a good experience for them to go to sleep on

My hunting partner Paul had the night off from the Sheriff's office so we loaded up Bluspeck , his 9 mos. old new Plott female, and my 6 mos. old Samson pup and headed up on Cowie road. Oh the joy of pups, splashin you with mud, rolling in coon crap, eating deer poop LOL!! HA that's pups! Samson did stay out pretty good with the old man.
The first drop Blu struck and I told Paul that Blu was smart and doing exactly what I ask, he said what do you mean? I said when I cut him in this thick stuff I whispered to him to stay on the logging trail and that's just what he is doing! LOL We got treed in a big ole poplar and saw the coon. Second drop Blu went a good 600 yrds came treed in a hedgerow, when we got there I said Yep Paul he is a smart dog! I told him this time if he got close to posted land tree him real close to the boundary so we can sneak in, and that's just what he did!! Hey the spring peepers were out for the first time last night, I think spring is coming!!

Thanks Daryl I think I've created a monster!!LOL Took Samson out 4 nites in a row last nite wind was 40 to 60 mph stayed home bout dark thirty ole Samson was causing a racket wantin to go to the woods ! LOL!

Samson

Snuck out for a moonlight walk with Samson tonight. Walked the creeks hoping we would come across some coon scent! Pup got gamey went over the side of the ravine kept working around a pool in the creek worked half way up the ravine and fell treed on a red oak. Coon sat up top! He has a long way to go but shows all the right tools! Just a week shy of seven months. He opened in the water a few nights ago, not pushing but very satisfied with what he has shown so far. Samson is a grandson to my Speck dog and out of Paul Cronauer's Sammy dog.
