Tom Tom did much better last night (or just got lucky). He treed 2 coons on 2 drops. How many seconds does that make for Brandon and Dusty? At least the Cartel was walking and not talking. You sure can't win from your recliner. I heard that even Yogi hunted in a hunt last night. I guess that "The Natural" is still waiting for a redbone so that he can start comp hunting. I kinda wish that I had something to put in a hunt myself.

Hello Pastor Mike,
I put a couple of pics and a video of a pup out of Haze and Hope , owned by Don Hampton.
Let me know what you think of the pup.
Thanks,
John

He looks like a nice pup John. I would be picky in who gets him, sometimes people have good intentions so I would do your best to place him where he will be given an honest chance to make it. I've heard that several of the pups in that litter are showing alot of interest for their age. The cross is a really tight one but there is alot of good blood in there.

Pastor Mike
If you know of anybody that you think would fit the bill, young or old, I would make him or her a good deal.
Thanks.

Mike,

It was a pleasure meeting and hunting with you on Friday night after hearing so much about you and your dogs from Jason, Brayden and Brandon. I was glad to see a red dog show us a coon- especially after Blaze got off on that fast track. He tried to tree over there shortly before he decided to go on a little detour. He isn't perfect to be sure and i've seen him tap a few fast tracks in the past but most of the time he isn't quite that crazy. Maybe he was just overwhelmed by all of the red power!

Brandon has a nice hound and I was glad to see him put another second on him. I have hunted with a few nice dogs that you all have had in the past and can honestly say they are the most stylish red dogs I've ever hunted with.

Maybe we all can get together again before the season goes out for a hunt one evening if you all happen to be down this way. Will you all be at Floyd this weekend?

Thanks Simon. It was good to meet you and hunt with you as well. Blaze sure is a nice tree dog, no problem telling which one is him. We had a nice cast. At least we did get a coon on the outside. I'm glad you got Blaze back ok. I won't be at floyd, I am taking some young people from our church to winterjam in roanoke friday evening.

Linkous, I heard that too, but I am going to take Haze to get some cosmetic surgery done, possibly this week, maybe that will help his chances.

Mike,

I agree, I was glad that we finally got one put up.

I used to be quite involved with the youth group where my wife and I attend church and I have been to Winter Jam on numerous occasions as an assistant youth minister. It's a great time and a good outreach opportunity for the kids to invite their friends to.

Blaze still needs a little polishing. I am going to push him hard over the next couple of months and see how he does. That is only the second hunt I've ever actually been in and entered him in. We are both still learning for sure. I have a 9 month old walker puppy out of the hardwood bean x trackman female that is really doing well. He is already running and treeing coons we have released by himself and will run and tree with my old dog. As long as everything keeps going the way they are now he will be ready to go for next fall.

The first dog I ever went in the woods with was a red bone. I have a grade redbone female now that is straight as an arrow and has a very cold nose on her. She doesn't have a lot of tree in her but is great to hunt a puppy with. She can run tracks my other dogs act like they can't even smell. If blaze doesn't turn out, i may return to my roots.

Richard........not leg surgery but getting that skin tag taken off.

Simon......follow the roots brother......come on home and hunt a red dog.

Linkous.....I'm looking forward to taking the kids to winterjam....it's always a good time.

Tonight, dad and I decided to take Frog for a late drop. It took a little while for her to get struck, but when she did she was a couple hundred yards straight down a steep ridge and instead of running the coon up the ridge closer to us.....she ran it down, down and down. Dad stayed at the top and headed for the truck and I went to Frog and found her treed on a big den.

I actually brought the camera with me tonight and took some pictures.

Brandon came up and went with me last night. We didn't get started until about 9:00 as I had a deacon's meeting at church. We had a wild night! We treed two on the outside in one tree, one in a hole and another in a white pine. We saw four coons in two trees and a hole!

We ran the coon in the hole out but it turned and went back in the hole and wouldn't come back out. While we were messing with that coon in the hole, my grandpa was at the truck listening to the dogs and a coon walked by him and ran off down the hollow opposite of the way we went. When we got back to the truck we turned the dogs loose on that track and they ran and treed it in a white pine. He was sitting in the most bare spot on the whole pine tree. Go figure! Those nights are rare and I certainly count it a blessing.

My 9 month old puppy was going crazy trying to get that coon out of the hole! He is really starting to turn it on and is running and treeing nicely with the other dogs. Before they ran that coon in the hole, my GrNt male pulled up on a tree a little short and my puppy kept driving the track past the tree towards the hole. My old dog came off his tree and fell in with my pup and ran it all the way to the hole along with dusty. My two dogs were inside the hole and dusty was treeing on a tree below the hole. On the last track, dusty sorted it out for my two walkers and they had him in the white pine in plain sight.

I sure know who to look up if I need a red dog in the future

Simon

Simon, sounds like you guys had a great hunt. it always helps a pup when the coon is that hot and right in front of it.

Daren, Frog is out of Haze and April. April belongs to Noah and Hunter Cunningham. April is out of Psycho and I think Noss' Molly dog.

no pics from thursday night. I tried.....but I am new to this camera stuff.....I forgot to put the memory card back in the camera. we only made one tree the other night but the tree was one of the largest I have seen around these parts. I really wanted a pic of the dogs on it because moose and frog both looked tiny when they were on it.

Yea, I remember that night Daren. That was Lexus and Babe that ended up on top of that mountain.......I had to walk it to go and get them. I guess they were treed for the better part of an hour. That was some of the roughest shale rock I had ever had to walk over up near the top, you would take one step up and then slide back about 4 feet....it was frustrating....but that was part of it. The last trek I made in the mountain was back in early february and had to go over 800 yards straight up in a foot of snow.........that was rough too....lol.

Mike, from the pictures I've seen of you if you took one step and then slid 4 feet back you'd still be at the bottom of the hill...........just sayin. Couldn't pass that up. Looks like you guys are doing good with the red dogs. I'm happy with my Sage dog out of Lexus and I have a pup out of her and my Billy dog that I am very pleased with to this point. He's 3 months old and I just showed him his first coon and he was fired up. Took him hunting four nights this week and he's not scared of anything. I'd bet he'll be running and treeing by the time he's six months old. Thanks again for Sage. I'm going to put Sage in the hunts this year and I think Lexus will have one more night champion by the end of summer. I need to give her some alone time and after that the pieces should fall in place. Are you guys going to American days this year?

Well......Haze come through his surgery just fine. Now about two weeks of healing and about 3-4 days of staying in the basement to keep him out of trouble and not to tear his stitches. I guess all is well.

Kevin, good luck with your pup. I'm glad sage has turned out to suit you. I sure wish I still had Lexus around.........and Shadow as well. It was a tough year last year loosing 4 dogs. Just a thought, I wouldn't mind leasing Sage from you at some point to raise a litter out of Haze by her. I had the opportunity to buy a nice female from Sawblade that was out of jr. and lex but decided to pass......I wish I hadn't now, but that is the way it goes sometimes. I knew I would regret that decision.

I wish I had put Haze on Lexus but I had decided to breed to Rage at the time cause I know how hard it is to get folks to breed to a nice young dog with nice females and I like to see nice young males have to the opportunity to get pups from good females on the ground.

On the lighter note........these short legs can really get going up a mountain if they need to......at least faster than buck...

Hi Mike.....Haze is living it up now in the basement.... I doubt I will give him a steak......but we'll see how it works out.

Look on the front of your papers......it should say "Permanently Nominated" on there somewhere. Normally, you don't get anything for the Performance program....it will just say it on the front of the papers.
