Yank

I'll do that Hillis...he always enjoys it especially when he hears it's from you.

It was 32 here today so I spent a good part of the day spreading mixing salt on the driveway to get the inch of ice broken up. What a job...lugging 50 pound bags of salt around on an icy driveway...it's a wonder I don't have broken bones top to bottom...eh?

I noticed a drop or two of blood today in Leinie's kennel run so putting Val over there must have started the process. Hopefully, Shadow will get the idea and start coming around too.

We'll hope that Moose can figure out which end is which when the time comes with Leinie...that should be a good one to look forward too.

We'll hope that Yank can get Val and Shadow mated soon, it will sure make for something special to look forward too this spring.

Dave will be ice fishing tomorrow and I'll be trying to catch the darned coon and raise some ruckus with the pups. Last time I was trying to catch the coon, he made a break for it and headed for the woods...never did catch him. Hope to have some pictures tomorrow or Sunday.

Tom, finally made it out last night. Couldn't take it anymore. 30 degrees at 7 p.m. and 8-10" of snow. Ruby treed one in a hollow log that I saw and she made a den tree. No tracks to be found. Ruby jst may be the best lay-up dog I have owned. I am looking forward to getting her bred to Oz this Fall maybe. Hope all is well up north.

Hunt

Hey Chad, glad to hear you could make it out and that Ruby did her job as good as she could. Dave might try it tonight but the snow is deep and crusted so it will be tough going if he does. I was cutting wood today and it's tough getting around.

Before I went to the woods, I rounded up the coon and did a little pup training. The coon almost got the best of me again but I prevailed this time. I had him by a hind leg with my coon catcher and he was hanging on for all he was worth and I was pulling for all I was worth...not a good combination...he let go and ended up wrapped around my arm with a mouth full of my hand...luckily, I had leather gloves on and I was able to squiggly my finger out and just let him have the glove. I figured I was holding my own so I stuffed him in the cage and he let go so all is well. What a ruckus...This coon is about 30 pounds and meaner than a snake but I wasn't about to let him go and watch him head for the woods like the last one I tried to round up out of the cage.

Anyway...I was able to show the pups the coon and liked what I saw. Show Time is out of Yank and Angel, Stretch is out of Yank and Val and Locket is out of Rabble and Pigeon.

These first 3 pictures are of Show Time Coon Stopper...soon to go to Woofter down in Ohio. He's just 8 months old but he's got the goods...big time. Loud mouth, good color and pretty good overall conformation. He's going to be a good one if I guess right...

Last but not least, a couple of short clips. They were really wound up after I took these clips but I didn't have another disk so this will have to do.

I really like these young dogs and see good things for them in the future. Locket is a darker colored female with a green collar. I call the lighter colored male Stretch...because I haven't figured out a name yet...and I had to call him something. Show Time is pretty tall and dark with the red collar, has a houndy mouth and is loud. Stretch has a real coarse, squall type mouth and is loud. It won't take Show Time long to get gone in the woods and I'd about bet he'll track and tree the first time out...we'll see...eh?

T-Top Show-Time Coon Stopper

Tom after talking to you on the phone I had to put my shoes on and come down to work to look at the pictures and listen to the tape. They are great. I really enjoyed them and am looking foward to getting Show-Time to Ohio. If that Shadow would come in and get bred. I want to pick her up for Pastor Mike while I am there getting Show-Time. He sure is a looker. Sounds like he has a good mouth too. I am spoiled with all the T-Top dogs I have had having big mouths. I don't think I would ever be happy with out it now. Sorry the coon got rough with you. I have scars on my hands and one on my leg from that very thing. It is funny later but not when they are chewing on you. Dave

Coon hunt

Hey Mark, it looks like you guys beat us to it this winter...we haven't been after coons since before deer hunting in November...heck of a deal. Sounds like you had a good hunt and that the dogs did good.

I did some pup training this weekend so at least I had a little excitement to keep me going.

It has been foggy the last few nights and although it makes hunting nearly impossible, it sure makes for a winter wonderland the next morning. Here is a picture of how the frost hangs on the trees up high in the hills but leaves the trees down low plain...it's a neat contrast.

It was a nice day again in Wisconsin and I got to do some leash training with these two pups and they did great, caught on real quick. It was interesting to see that when I got Show Time down the driveway past where the coon pen is, he reared up, pulled hard in that direction and opened up like he meant it. He was bound and determined to get after the coon he could smell up wind but he'll have to wait until next time and work for it a little bit. I even had Show Time, Moose and Yank up on the bench for a few minutes each. In the right hands...Moose could win big...very nice hound top to bottom. Show Time did pretty good too and with some work will open some eyes somewhere down the road. I may even keep working with Yank, he looks pretty good and could probably finish to at least Champion if not more with some work.

Anyway, it was a good weekend with some good time spent with the pups...It wasn't as good as getting some coons treed out in Montana but pretty good anyway.

Coon

Hi Tom,
Treed another coon after I talked to you. It was about the same results. It's season and I didn't even take a gun to the trees. I am saving them for Show-Time. I want to get him started quick. Have a good day. Dave

Show-Time

He'll be ready for action by the time you get him Dave. If the weather holds, we can do a little more training and I told Dave that these pups won't even need a lead dog to get them with the program...at least that's what I think. Very coon minded for what they know about one and way ahead of the game with how they act around a tree. I wish the ground would break so we could at least do more formal training but we'll do what we can at this point.

A little yard exposure does wonders, even for older dogs that have never had the chance to be trained for coons...it gives them some direction and a chance to be handled under more controlled conditions...of course I know this aint your first rodeo so I'll just wait to hear how it goes.

I'll keep you updated now that we got the process started. It's supposed to rain on Saturday and then snow a little on Sunday so hopefully the rain will knock down a lot of snow and the snow won't amount to crap...we can wish anyway...eh?

One more

I noticed Angel is starting to come into heat also. We will have Val and Angel mated to Yank and we will have Leinie mated to Moose by the end of this month.

Val and Leinie would be due close to mid and late March and Angel would be due around the end of March or early April.

Tom had a good hunt with Cherry tonight. She looked real good on a couple working tracks in tough terrain. Almost to rough for the old Man. LOL! Sent you a couple pictures. Dave

Cherry

I couldn't resist Dave...I had to put some other pictures that I have, along with this one of Cherry...notice the resemblance in all of these?

Cherry

Guess who?

One more guess...

A couple of these pictures are pretty old but I couldn't help but think of a resemblance in these dogs and I guess a lot of others on this thread.

She's a nice one Dave and it looks like she will be for a long time to come from everything I hear about her.

Training

Dave and I got some training done again today with Show-Time and Crook. I got a lot of pictures and loved them all so please enjoy the few I am putting on here today...

These first two are of PR Woofter's T-Top Show-Time Coon Stopper.

This is PR T-Top Crazy Crook

Show-Time and Crook together

I'll have to say that these two are really getting my attention. Show-Time reminds me so much of Rabble Rouser at this age that it gives me chills and it's almost spooky. Everything about him from how he acts around the yard to how intense he is for just being 8 months old and how smart and full of sense he is...not to mention being a good looking son of a gun.

Crook isn't the best looking pup but I noticed lately that he's starting to get better lookin'...especially when you see how intense he has become around the tree after that coon.

Both these pups have loud mouths and are serious about their business. This is the first drag track they have been on and without a lead dog. They took the track like they knew what they were doing. Both blew by the tree and got downwind of the coon about 10 feet or so and Show-Time threw up his head and winded that coon and reared up on the closest tree and started treeing hard, without seeing coon or cage. Crook backed him and they weren't to be moved until we actually swung the cage out so they could see it and come get their reward with some face time.

I've been exposed now to 5 different pups from 3 different females that are all out of Nt. Ch. PR T-Top Northwood's Yankee and I'll say now that this young male has got the goods as far as being able to reproduce early starting and coon minded pups. These pups are 10 months or younger and showing ready to tag along to the woods and I would expect them to track and tree first time out.

Val is mated to Yank this week. Leinie is mated to Moose for the first time today. Angel is showing first blood and will be mated again to Yank by next weekend or early the following week. I haven't been this excited to see pups come again since Rabble Rouser was standing in this yard...it's good stuff.

Tom I loved the pictures. S-T sure looks good. I am coming up to get him soon because I think Shadow may not come in till spring if she dosen't come in with all the other females coming in. I am getting ready to hit the woods with Cherry again tonight. Thanks for working Show-Time for me. Dave

Show Times' brother in NC

We did a 75 yard drag thur the woods with a coon up the tree at the end. He found the track off lesh and worked it. He was a little fast but backed up and took it to the tree. He then open up to say here is your coon, sounded great. I set the drag down with plastic bags on my shoes plus walked out down on pass the tree. A true test he could work the track not my trip to the tree. He did not get any face time maybe next week when we do it again. Just alot of loving on the tree.

There could be alot down the road for Buddy as well.

Buddy

Hey Robbie...it sounds like Buddy is getting with the program too. He is a mate to Show-Time and I know of two others from that same litter that are looking very good at 8 months of age now. I really like these young dogs, they have a great, happy attitude and are willing to work with some sense.

Dave Woofter called me tonight as he was walking into the tree where Cherry had laid one up...she sounded like a million bucks and had the meat to boot. Somewhere down the road, I'd about bet that there will be a tough line cross between Cherry and Show-Time but I hope to get her a chance with Yank too because he's sure showing me that he's got the goods as far as a reproducer goes...just like his daddy and grand daddy.

Keep at it Rob, Buddy is put together right and you're giving him good exposure.
