Bluspeck grandson SAMSON

Hunted Samson in the corn tonight, moon so bright didn't need a light hardly!! He is the most accurate dog I have hunted at that age! Here he is treed on a locust tree with the coon.

Friday Night Hunt

I have singled out Samson a lot lately including the last three nights and left a very disappointed Bluspeck home so tonight I hunted the boys together. Stayed out of the corn as poor ole Samson's cheekbones are getting rubbed raw from several nights corn races. As suspected Blu struck deep at 818 yrds. and came treed just over 1200 yrds. from the truck, walking in I could hear both boys treeing hard! They had Mr. Ringtail up a big Maple beside a small creek.

Cut again they struck close this time both dogs located and came treed saw the coon walking in.

Walking back to the truck in the high goldenrod we almost stepped on a buck laying still for us to pass, Samson never batted and eye or even tried to check the deer out...I guess the early deer talking to worked! LOL! Never been shocked on a deer just scolded and a swat he is a smart boy.

Thursday night

With the dry spell and creeks very low all our strikes were near the creeks and streams. Ran Bluspeck and his grandson Smooth Talking Samson was a nice cool 54! The old man was puffing pretty good as most of my time in the woods has been with the youngan. Ole Bluspeck pushes hard no matter what shape he is in a lotta heart in that dog. Whole lotta sweet music in these hills tonight!

Thanks Johnny poor boy little out of shape cause I have been singling out his grandson Samson it kills him not to go and he is too fast a track dog to use as a pup trainer. He really fires up the young dogs on the tree so I hunt him with Samson maybe one out of every eight trips to the woods.

Samson's first title

11 month old Samson, Best of Show and UEB&FA King of Show at the Albion NY English Sectional today making him a CH. He beat out two GRCH males to win King. I don't dare put him in a hunt yet so we will go after his HTX title next and next year at this time will hit the hunts with him after his first kill season this fall.

Saturday hunt

Was online following the World hunt play by play decided to get a hunt in with the boys. It was super dry we hit the big cornfield behind the house. Dogs went 252 yds in corn before they struck and treed close to 500 yrds the other end of the cornfield. Had two coon up a big soft maple tree with the top broken off.

Recast they worked an old track down thru the corn into a big pine grove and came treed way down the hill in a real thick tangle with tops all over. Coon could have been anywhere up in the vines I shined and squalled but couldn't get an eye.

Called it a nite and hurried home to catch up on the play by play.

Oh My... was all ready to do a big congrats for the big show win and instead.... SIGH.....

Bob and I are so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom! Taking care of my 96 yr old mum every weekend... I know the worries of losing a parent...but have yet to experience the loss of my own mother... I can only imagine. Bob is not so lucky as to have a good relationship with his mother BUT knows loss first hand(his beloved first wife)...

Heather, Paul, and Bub thanks for your condolences. Paul I think I mentioned this to you before, my mom was the oldest of 6 siblings so named Pauline after my Grampa Paul. Grampa Paul McElwain instilled in me my love for hunting, and my mom encouraged me to pursue the hounds at a very young age when my Dad didn't want a "noisy" hound around. I used to come back to the old homestead and woods I grew up in Warsaw on weekends to coonhunt after I was first married and had moved to Albion, and mom would always wait up late to see how I did and have snacks to eat after my late nite hunts. She was a great lady, lived to 90 and still asked every week when I visited her at the nursing home how my dogs were doing! She will be greatly missed.

Yes we are all getting older. Since my Mom's passing the woods and dogs are my peace as she loved both. Take care Steve and go see them as much as you can.
