IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT
In the still of the night I cast my hound,
Down the creek hunting for a coon is where he's bound.
I hear splashes of water as he looks for the scent,
That will tell him which direction this tricky coon has went.
He strikes the trail pretty deep at 687 yards,
Opening more and more as he drives the track hard.
Big, Raging Bawls fill the night air,
I'm listening closely ,while at the stars I stare.
Then silence for a few seconds as my hound searches for the right tree,
Louder bawls ring out as he locates and calls for me.
Turn on my light and start heading his way,
No hurry though, I have faith he will stay.
As I come into the tree and cast my light up,
There the coon sits, not much bigger than a pup.
Praise my hound for a few minutes and tell him Good Job Son,
I sit IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT just to hear him put the coon on the run.
