Depends on what female u back up to him, I have hunted with some pups off him that were early starters and were doing good young with a lot of independency, I bred my female to him my pups came out kinda like she was really late starters. 14 months before they would have anything to do with a coon, but they are all starting/progressing and are prob farther along than most pups their age that did start at 6 or 7 months, dead independent teach theirselves to track and tree with a very high accuracy percentage if u can put a percentage on that. Yes it does make it hard to train them when u can't use an old dog to train them, but that should be what people look for is a pup that will show u it's ability and not the other dogs ability that it is hunting with,
