When I originally made this post I probably should have been more clear as to my definition of hard hunting. I wasn't talking about a dog that gets deep, I can get that in a Walker. I was asking about dogs that leave looking for a coon and do it like they are on fire. I'm not looking for a deep dog, that is not my definition of hard hunting.

I'd like to see a breeders cup pinning all of the top breeding stock Loepards against eachother in competition. My money would be on Sport, he's certainly not short on hustle!!!

Dan we have a breeders hunt for the Wipeout line of Walker dogs here at my house every year. It is a good hunt and gives us all a chance to fellowship and swap breeding and training strategies for the upcoming year. It doesn't hurt that it pays $6000 to the overall winner either. I would be more than happy to help anyone that's interested host a hunt. I would love to see the top Leopard dogs and breeders in the country at one place.

I agree, Sport is as tough as any hound out there if it is getting deep as he needs to or slamming one with in seconds of being turned loose. I am a life long walker man but would be proud to own one like sport. I have hunted my Cord female against him several times & is always a close battle between the two which makes for a fun hunt, win or loose!!!

It's not always easy to find a hound and especially a leopard, that will withstand the rigors of comp. hunting. By their very nature, the very thing that makes them very smart hunting dogs also makes for a dog that will not put up with some of the crap (many long hauls, rough dogs, etc...). Sport is an unusually sound dog in any breed, even in the line he is from. I hope to see him do equally well in the breeding pen. I have a couple of dogs out of Sport and Queen that are pretty dang sound dogs so it's looking very good so far.

So are you telling me I'm wasting my time trying to train the pups I have for competition hunting. They are extremely smart but I was hoping that would help them in competition not be a handicap. Just asking.

No, I'm just saying that there are other breeds that are more suited to getting hauled around a being hunted with new dogs a lot. It's more of a general statement. If you pick right within the leopard breed you can have good results. I've had a few dogs that could have won anywhere and seemed to haul well on long trips. You'll likely go through quite a few dogs getting to "the one", the same as any other breed. No worries.

The captain dog was a go yonder quick and accurate. When it came to treeing coon he DID NOT mess around when you turned him loose he would tree coon and other dogs,would still be taking a piss.Whether there was a hurricane or a blizzard he would not stop, when the storm was over only thing you would hear was the steady chop of him treed and he would always have the meat.

The Captain dog was out of Clarkes wild Bill, and Ark Valley Queenie.I t was a cross my dad made after he bought the wild bill dog,at six to eight months of age. the captain dog and his sister was out doing older more experience coon dogs.by the way I am not Gary I am his son Jason using his log in.
