Nice

Thats a good looking dog, I can see some red starting to creep up those back legs. I'm interested in his pedigree.

What do you guys consider high tan? I have always thought it was a red dog with a black saddle. I always heard dogs like mford posted called monkey faced black and tans. The dogs pictured are good looking hounds. My buddy had a bloodhound/B&T cross that looked like the dog in mford's picture only heavier built. She was a cold trailing fool and a decent tree dog. Pretty slow but didn't make many misses either.

Kevin

To me a high tan is like you said. All red with a black blanket back. It seems that most of the black pups that come from two registered redbones will most always end up looking like the monkey-faced black and tan.

The true old style high tan redbone seems to be a thing of the past. Bloodhounds still look like it however.

high tans

Bigridge, I have a female that's the spitting image of your hound on the tailgate. I also have the same truck the same color! My female is the cross of a Walker female bred to a Red Plott male...She just had a litter of pups on the 9th. I bred her to a saddleback Plott. Right now the pups are dark brown with a little white. She is one of the best bear/bobcat hounds I've ever had. Real fast and runs to catch. She had 5 pups 4 males and only 1 female. Males will be for sale. I'll try to do the same picture you did and post it. P.T. in Maine

Blacked Out Zeb FO

I have a 4 month old xbred out of zeb3 and a cane female, any man of any breed will say he's as good lookin a pup they ever seen. Blocky head, cat feet, long straight legs, and short slick hair. He's already high tan, but some more tan will come through as he gets older. And his Tans a real rich red. I like him. And to top it off he's already treeing drags.

Most of the ones I knew of had plenty of talent and perhaps carried some of the traits that were in demand.

I'm interested in finding a High-Tan out of two registered redbones. If you got one let me know about it.

It is my understanding that if I bred for this trait using registered redbones as both parents but ended up with some Bl;ack n Tan pups . I would be able to sell all the red pups as registered redbones and the B/T as X-bred.

If anyone else is interested in this you can PM me, I won't tell .I don't care if this idea ruffles the feathers of some of the redbone people . I love the redbone breed but I always have liked those old High-Tans and I plan on being able to offer people both.
