Grand American.....ready or not here we come! talked to a friend of mine there and he has had rain last week and most this week too. what w/all the flooding from before and a lot of it is still there it plans on being a wet weekend even if it does not rain the time of the hunt. he belongs to Bamburg deer club 18 miles to east of orangeburg and he said the entire place is flooded still and a lot of their roads thru deer club property are still impassable. and w/this i do not know how they can even hunt anywhere around hellhole. guess we will see what we see when we get there. good luck to everyone going.

Grand American

Rush got a double cast win this weekend in the swamper. But u don't get to play w/the big boys if u do not have enough points added together to get in the final four. 75+ on fri and 200+ on sat. cast wins yes but no nite ch wins and no final four. not even a place in the top 20 either night. do not consider it a victory but u lose more than u win as i have said many times before. hey! u gotta dance w/who ya brought or sumpin' like that. and me and my partner stumbled a few times...sometimes he stumbled and sometimes i stumbled. well anyway glad to be home and overall he did do a pretty good job just a little short this time. his time will come so don't touch that dial and stay tuned in to the ongoing reality of.................................... "The GOLD RUSH"!
Catch the fever! LOL

Burlington NC has an rqe next weekend and had a Ukc hunt tonight. Thought I would check out the waters there tonight. Got a nitech win there tonight on THE "GOLD RUSH". Wasn't pretty but win is a win. 6 out of 8 casts he has been in he has won so his percentages of wins vs losses are not to bad so far. On way home now and get some sleep. Still ways to go to be a coon dog though!

RQE Burlington NC

waters were better last weekend than this weekend. 10 degree weather, windy (cold for down here). not enough dog power i guess. 4-dog cast...blue dog treed about 300yds from us, the "GOLD RUSH" treed about 100 yds further...blue dog leaves his tree and goes to Rush...ok, looks good...ugghhh! den tree! in the meantime two walkers in their typical style left out running into seemingly next county and leash lock me. basically after a grueling freezing walk they have a coon and that about sums up the hunt. think they run a hot coon thru there?.....heck i'm gullible, why not. anyway, just not enough dog power i guess......next!

ifs and buts

ifs and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a merry christmas! kinda like the two $kc hunts i went to last thurs and fri.
thurs....$500 added, 1hr hunt....RUSH treed twice and was backed both times by another dog....!st tree, coon....2nd tree den. this is where the ifs and buts come in. if he would have had coon instead of den he would have gotten in money but he did not. lost cast
fri...$500 added,2hr hunt....Rush split treed twice....1st time had coon....2nd time slick...lost what he had.
only thing we accomplished was understanding that the "GOLD RUSH" can compete w/big money dogs and i have not had a dog to be able to do that in a long while. hopefully w/more experience and time he will be able to show up in the money circles....we will see!

the good, bad and the ugly...we tell it all. The "GOLD RUSH" is far from perfect or a finished dog but sure not a one hit wonder and then disappear never to be seen again. spectators are always welcome at our hunts or welcome to come for a pleasure hunt. he might look good or he might look like crap....just a dog.

NOTICE! NOTICE!

The 'GOLD RUSH" has been added to the team hoyt stud dog auction
on the coonhound page. MIN BID IS $125. i am not a breeder and had no plans on breeding my dog cause when competing w/a male i just prefer not to be breeding them cause oftentimes they can go stupid on you. this was a good cause for the little boy's family is financially strapped for their son in the hospital for cancer. so if by chance you or someone u know were thinking about breeding to the "GOLD RUSH" then this is an ideal opportunity to do so. he will probably not be bred anymore this year except for this one time. never been bred before so have no idea if he would throw anything worth a darn or not. just know what he is. if u do bid i am sure the family will appreciate it.

Not much going on in hunts as far as any wins....circle pts, some slicks eaten alive one time ( had to set him up for couple weeks so he could forget it)
Finally this past weekend got a cast win sat at Va St hunt.
Had cast win on fri in my pocket w/less than 5 min left in hunt. Only one other dog left in cast w/Rush which had not been heard from on this last drop. No reason to tree cause still prob would not have had enough points for nite ch win but w/3 sec left ole dum-dum treed him. Uh-oh slick....there went the cast win out the window for no reason whatsoever. In that cast in 14min Rush went from 225- to 212 1/2 winning cast w/ closest dog at 12 1/2. Then I pull that stunt.
Sat going into last 14min of hunt Rush had 150+ and walker female in cast had 375+.... Not much chance of winning here I figured but u can never count out "THE GOLD RUSH"..... Came back to win the cast when walker went to 0 and Rush wound up w/250+. Wow! I'm still trying to figure how different the two nights were. One w/ having it in my pocket and throwing it away and the next night w/not seemingly having a shot and pulling it out. Ya never know!
He is not going to win em all but they will know he is there cause he is a competitor!

update...some good, some bad

NC state this weekend....fri nite 4-dog cast.....first drop 3other dogs treed possum and rush went past them and only dog left w/1hr 30min to hunt by himself....this is the bad part from here and kinda funny. struck and 8min later fell treed. waited the five and proceeded to tree...small tree w/nothing in it....EXCEPT! no not a possum but a small owl....an OWL! gone from hunt...OMG! really?!
sat night treed coon by himself on first drop and two other dogs split w/4th dog at large not struck in. other two treed left their tree and one covered rush w/both taking minus points. dog at large was at rush's tree. only coon seen in hunt and later on last drop w/one dog withdrawing and other two treed possum on that drop. rush was treed in farther but i did not tree him what with what happened at Va state hunt w/my brain freeze...just took my little cast win to give him 100 purina points so far.....another RQE next weekend.

Just an ol' pleasure hunter but I sure do enjoy reading about the Gold Rush and my hats off to those that are promoting and showing what the Leopards can do in competition.

The worst part of the weekend I had not mentioned. At the end of sat nite hunt there was nobody going back to club to carry my scorecard. The "GOLD RUSH" was treed roughly 400 yds thru. Thickets and I could not get to him, get back to truck and have time to make deadline. Hope I did not screw up again but decided to get card back cause cast wins are often hard to come by. Three hours later got back to turnout and he was waiting on me. First time I ever saw him that happy to see me. Lol! Guess he will be alright!
One of the fellas in the cast was going back to motel at Salisbury where the hunt was also which a little bit po'd me but that is the way some are. I just grin and think what goes around comes around.

like to say the "GOLD RUSH" got qualified at the rqe last night but luck (if u want to call it that....i don't) was not on his side. pouring rain and rush trees the only trees that the coons were in. oh! wait a minute! excuse me for being wrong....he trees the only two trees that two people go absolutely blind on. first tree definitely blind but on their account second tree maybe two handlers actually did not see eyes looking down if they were actually looking ror them in first place....lol! he has two first trees and second tree was split w/other three dogs treed deep. going to Rush's tree and suddenly several dogs appear there treeing. all three gonna take minus both ways if coon seen so i really did not expect this to turn out good for the fella doing all the work. some days u wake up and get the bear and mostly it seems the bear gets u. determination, thick skin and a composure enough that u do not gut somebody(just kidding on that last one). oh yea! a good coon dog don't hurt but sometimes that does not even help! not our first rodeo and we will continue on......they know they have been russsshed though! lol! like i've said before...the good, the bad, and the ugly! GAME ON!

went to $kc hunt Thursday nite and did not end well w/snakebites on second tree. plural because "the GOLD RUSH" was not only bit but another dog also so our hunt ended pretty quickly. he'll be fine after couple days rest. it happens.

Thinking about giving it all up. For some reason, maybe age, maybe cause I have been at it so long my interest in the sport is waning. Not sure why cause I have better than I ever have had(in my opinion) just not interested as much . A little more time will tell.

Even messin' w/people on the boards is not interesting any more...OMG! Now I know it must be time to move on.....lol!
