It really is funny to see people on another thread bashing Outlaw Billy the Kid and saying that a guy made a much better choice to breed his female to another dog over Billy...
especially when the other dog he is breeding to goes back to Billy the Kid.
When will people wake up and stop with all that jealous crap. They won't get on my thread and talk about me or my dogs but they will get on another mans thread and insert us into a place we don't belong. That is the kind of thing that splits this breed apart and the funny thing is most of the guys participating all hunt dogs that go back to OUTLAW BILLY THE KID.....but how silly is it to post negative comments about him when they are all leading descendants of him.... that is the most absurd thing I have ever seen.

You know, I saw a post the other day, young dog treed on a hang up coon, statement was something about "blah blah blah tree dog--- no BAD OUTLAW blood in 'em" but the fellas main "stud dog" is out of a female that is HEAVY outlaw bred...

It just doesn't make much sense to me, if you don't like it, ignore it

That's the kind of stuff I am talking about Lizz.
Most of these people are so Jealous of any line but their own they don't want to give any credit to anyone else. Many of these same people are leading, breeding, and hunting descendants of Outlaw dogs and they refuse to admit it....but pedigrees don't lie. All of these Pepper dogs out of Moonlight Kate that you read about are directly descended from Outlaw Billy the Kid, all the Nighty Nite dogs who are out Pepper Ann or Moonlight Kate....all go back to Outlaw Billy the Kid. Every dog on the reproducer list that goes back to yellow river Doc goes directly back to Outlaw Moon another son of Outlaw Jesse and the list goes on and on.
Outlaw blood is in many if not most of the biggest winning dogs today and has been for the past 25 years. I hope that honest people who read this board can see through the smoke screen that some of these people try to throw up to cloud the facts manipulate more people towards their line (which probably goes back to Outlaw blood anyway...lol)
I am not in the stud dog business, or in the puppy mill business.
I am trying to work with honest people who want to make great crosses on their merits....not a bunch of line blind hype. I hunt what I breed and if I have more than I can do right by...I give them to good people or partner with good people on them. I try to give honest descriptions of my dogs and the crosses I make because thats what I want from others. I am open and honest about how I start dogs and how I finish and compete with them because I want others to know that there really isn't some secret to all this...just a lot of planning, preparation, hard work and desire to make better redbones. If people would stop trying to put down every line but their own...maybe we might get somewhere. I talk a lot about my line...I am proud of it. But I don't get on here and talk bad about every other line but the one I am hunting. That doesn't make my line look better...so why do it. I like to see others talk about and promote their line of choice...it shows they are proud and they think they have a line that can help the breed. Thats great! But blowing about a line that hasn't done much while trashing and running down other lines is childish and only serves to create and reinforce deep divisions within this breed and it really needs to stop. If you can't say something nice about a line in this breed...don't talk about it at all. The ones that people like the most will be the ones that get talked about the most....by the most people. Just take a look at threads on the stud and kennel promotion page...look at when the thread started...now look at how many views and comments are made on each thread. Unless they are all by the same person....chances are...that kennel or line of dogs with a lot of views and comments is pretty well liked by a lot of people. Now ask yorself...do I really want to trash talk about a line of dogs that has that big of a following??? And if so....what am I risking as far as my credibility and reputation? I would strongly advise against.
The Outlaw line is alive and well and growing stronger every day and it has a fan base that covers every state where coon hunting is popular. Good luck to all who support this great breed....shane

Every cross that is made is an equal part sire and equal part dam....and yet some still believe that some how the male is responsible for the success of a litter if its a good one and all but refuse to give equal credit to the females part in it......really???
If I had a male stud dog...and his success depended on good females being bred to him....I don't think I would be so dismissive of the importance of good redbone females....because the people who own them may turn away from a stud who's owner doesn't think any credit should go to the great females of this breed who far and away out produce on % of titled dogs over males.
Just something to think about as you search for dogs you may want to breed your good female to.....

The females

When we finally start to give equal credit to both sides of a pedigree and pay close attention to both sides and build solid pedigrees that have great dogs all thru ,top and bottom. That is when we will see a quick rise in the quality of hounds and the % of winners.
We are getting there you can see it in many pedigrees in the last few years. Hat's off to all those who are paying attention to everything.

A wise man once told me, "what the redbone breed is lacking is quality females, not that they aren't there but people aren't pushing them the way they should be. And on the other side of the fence, people are breeding junk females because they have a good pedigree..."

Can anyone guess who said that?

I know its getting better....but there are still a lot of people out there who go out of their way to try to take credit away from good reproducing females and give that credtcredit to the male when I cross works. Many of the best reproducing females have produced multiple titled dogs from every male they have been bred to...but many of the males they were bred to seldom reproduced titled dogs with the other females they were bred to. On crosses like that....it seems clear to me that the female should get equal credit and yet some still try to argue against what the pedigree clearly shows. I don't get people who are hunting and promoting dogs who go back to certain dogs but they want to act like they don't or give them no credit or say something like....I don't consider my dog to be of this breeding because I don't see any of those traits in him. How on earth can anyone expunge a dog from their dogs pedigree and claim that its not in their dogs DNA several generations down the line? How can others take a person like that seriously. It doesn't matter what line name you call a dog....isn't it the sum total of all its ancestors?
Its almost like someone doing their family tree on ancestors.com and finding out that Adolf Hitler was their great grand father....and when someone points that out....you say no...he really wasn't because I am nothing like him....lol
I bet if a person found out that they were related to a famous person that was well liked and made great contributions to the world they would not try to hide thier relation to them....and the same should go for dogs.
If we don't give credit to the great reproducing females in this breed who are fully 50% of every great cross....how can we hope to identify other such females in the future? I want to see this breed rise....and if it does that it is going to do it because both sides of a cross were full of great reproducers....not just the male side that seems to get all the credit from some. I think people are paying more attention to the females now than in years past....but we still have a ways to go...

No redbone with over 500 pups on the ground has a high % on the reproducer list.
Take a look at any redbone with over 500 pups, like Fireball, Woodpecker, Winchester's Zack, Reverend Red, etc....
Which ones had a higher % than Billy The Kid?.....none.
How many dogs mentioned above besides Billy are still producing dogs who have titled in the last few years?......none.
Outlaw Billy the Kid and Outlaw Jesse James jr have been bred to using their frozen semen several times in the last 3 years and their % will rise as more and more pups out of them title out. None of the dogs with more pups than Billy and a lower % than him will improve on their % or move up on the reproducers list....but Billy has, and will improve his %.
Billy has had several title recently and is only 2-3 away from being in 2nd place on the reproducers list...and will breed more gr.nt.ch. females this year who will produce even more titled pups in the future. Keep this in mind....the lower the number of pups a reproducer has....the higher his % tends to be. Billy was bred to way too many females that came with a stud fee....but no ability to reproduce. I think if you watch the dogs from his last 4 litters and from any future litters which are and will be from the best qualified females....you will see a very high % of the pups from those crosses title out. To me, that is how every stud dog should be bred and our breed would be better for it.

We try to keep accurate records about this line of dogs that go back to Outlaw Jesse. We are proud of this line and many people have hunted, promoted, and won with hundreds upon hundreds of descendants of Jesse over the past 25 years. Pups and grand pups of Jesse have started countless other "lines" of redbones that continue to win big hunts to this day. Keep an eye on the T dog from Nighty Nite kennels....he is a prime example as he goes back to Outlaw Jesse on the top and the bottom of his pedigree. In fact most everything that has come from the Moonlight or Nighty Nite kennels which have produced some of the biggest if not the biggest winning redbones over the past 15 years or so can mostly be traced back to Outlaw Jesse through Outlaw Billy the Kid. Billy's reproducing % is what it is. But look at all of the dogs winning today and over the past 15-20 years.....and dig deeper than 3 generations and you will find a high percentage of some of the biggest winning dogs go back to Outlaw Jesse through son's or daughters of her two best crosses on Burning Ben and Timber Jack. This is a winning line of dogs....maybe one of the most winning lines of redbones over the last two decades. We have been "Outlaws" from the beginning.....and even though many people who bought or bred to an Outlaw dog may have started calling them by other kennel names....the blood and pedigrees do not lie. We have many of the old pedigrees for dogs from this line and if anyone wants to know if a dog is outlaw bred on back in its pedigree...let one of us know. The Outlaw line is really spread far and wide and is in just about every state where people coon hunt and has a lot of support from people who do not even post on this forum. We are very happy with this line and proud to support and carry it on and help people new to the breed, or just this line get a pup or dog with breeding and traits that will help them enjoy the redbone breed. Good luck to everyone and to the redbone breed.

He said he made 5 drops and cherry treed 4 coons and a den in about 1 hr and 50 mins of hunting....sounds like she is coming right along. Check out the videos on Cherry's thread....they are really great!

Shane's videos of B.J. and Red Rocket last night

Shane said he mistakenly said at start of this video that the dogs you hear are outlaw cherry bomb and red rocket....but they are actually outlaw billy jean and red rocket. He has been doing alot of videos of cherry and said he mispoke. Both B.J. and Rock are out of shape from being laid up since shane's back surgery last fall so these videos don't show them at their very best but they will be getting in shape quickly.

B.J. and Rock on another tree last night. Shane said they made four trees in all, saw two coons, a den and one that probably wasn't there.
