As he gets older and matures he will get pushed to his full potential. He's going to be a good one.
This is video from first page of this thread of the first coon that BO treed at night hunting by himself at 8 months old. One year ago today. I bumped it up for his anniversary of his first coon. You can tell he is still a little unsure of the tree, locates a few more times, then settles in to treeing. Probably because I was close and ran to him after I heard his first locate. I do that with every young hounds first dozen trees if I can. It is bred into them yes, but I feel those first few coons that I need to get there ASAP, hook them up and if the coon is there love them up and put it out to them. I feel it really boost there confidence BIG TIME and makes a huge difference in that dog becoming a solid tree dog early on. Some maybe not, they come here locking it down but usually the ones that grab trees quick at young age are slick. The ones that take a little while to really check it out early on make the more accurate hound IMO. But I try to not give them the chance to doubt themselves while their still trying to figure it out. Stay close, hear locate, get in there and hook them up, look for coon and if coon is found reward for job well done, if not send them on and repeat until job is done. One year ago tonight, WOW!! I look back through the pages of this thread and the memories I have made with this hound and the coon he has treed and it blows my mind that with the average of 3 or 4 nights of hunting a week he has come so far. I can honestly say that when I cut him I don't worry if when he strikes if its a coon or not, my biggest worry is how thick its going to be where he trees! lol! I'm proud of this young hound as you can tell and can't wait to get back in the swamps again for some Good Hunting!!
