Hunt
Dave took Yank and Moose the other night and had an interesting hunt. He was collaring up the dogs at his first drop and he said that a three legged coon came hopping past the truck, heading for a silage bag...He treed one in this spot a few weeks ago and he said it was up a leaner tree and only about 10 feet off the ground...he figures it was this same coon. He said it was fat and looked in good shape except for hopping on one front leg. Of course, both dogs winded the coon and wanted to get loose but the coon was headed for a farm yard so he didn't dare turn loose. Kind of funny...go hunting and have a coon walk right past you and can't turn the dogs loose. He ended up having to walk them way back in the woods before he cut them or they would have headed right back to where the coon was. He cut them and they disappeared and then a sudden and real heavy downpour of rain came out of nowhere. When it quit, he had no idea where the dogs were but soon heard them bark a couple of times and then come treed...they had the meat so it wasn't a total washout. Earlier he had turned them loose along a spring and they followed it all the way down towards the highway. He could hear them barking right by the road so he drove up there and ran down into the creek to catch them. When he got there, they all of a sudden started really acting crazy and he thought they were going to get away from him and get on the road...all of a sudden, Moose threw a big locate followed by Yank and they both started treeing on a little island in the middle of the creek, right in front of him, with a small tree sticking out of it...they had the coon.
Pretty interesting night of hunting...eh?
Pups are doing real good...THANK YOU to everyone who spoke for a pup, these are all very nice looking pups from three nice crosses. I've got ours picked out but it was real tough because they are all very nice looking and acting pups. Should be a fun rest of the summer.

Unrealistic expectations are a roadblock to success, judge your dogs by what they are ready to give not by what you wish they'd do.
