I have a buddy that set the woods on fire literally one night. The dogs got scared and took off. Someone called the fire dept and when they pulled up one of the fire trucks ran over his dog and killed it. He doesn't try to smoke any more coons out of their den. A hollow tree will act just like a chimney.

speaking of Buck there something about a fire in Fort Lewis Mountain sometime back

David is right about one thing it sure does help when you have a friend to put up a property bond so you can get out if you do not believe me ask Lyndell Price

Richard you are right about them ole den being like a flue why there was 2 fellows who tried to smoke one out in Pilot Mountain had flames shooting out of the top of the tree had to go get a chain saw to cut it down to put the fire out runt a good saw to the fire was so hot but all they needed was some barbacue sauce

And speaking of cutting down trees there was a big hublado at the local country club one time someone had cut a den tree and it fell out on the greens messed up a sunday morning golf outing or something I think they may have been upset because the green fees did not get paid

"Local golf course", now that is another story. Rex and Danny Barrett were kicked out of the city of Luxemburg, Wisconsin late one night for "disturbing the peace". They ended up in a fancy subdivision adjoining a golf course. They were told that they were barred from the city limits and told to never come back. Golf courses have some of the best hunting that you can find.

Fancy subdivision man those people spare no expense on outdoor lighting helps out a lot with getting a coon out a tree
not sure if was the ring of the axe that started them coming on or the crash of the tree at 3 am on a sunday morning but they had it lit up like daylight

Amber on the wood with the goods! She has been struggling with Lymes but she is starting to show vast improvements. She was 2 for 2 tonight so we decided to call it a night and see how she's doing in the morning. Excuse the pic. It was taken with a cell phone. How did Frawg dawg do Mike on that last track?

It's probably a good idea Keith. I would go ahead and put a bell on Fritz and put Lacy in the kennel next to him. Young dogs will do that sort of thing. She had never been free cast and is used to a track being on the ground right out of the truck.

With each track, I would turn her loose further from it each time and make her hunt for it. That's my thought on it. She has the goods Keith, patience and repetition will do wonders. You will have a fun fall this year.

Adam,

The track Frog was on was pretty cold and a feeder type track. She tracked it for over an hour and only opened up about every 60-80 yards. It never did warm up but she seems to stay at a decent pace. She finally located and came treed and she had the coon on the outside. It was a tough track but she did a nice job even though I got alittle bored waiting... It all ended good. She was 2 for 2 tonight as well.

That sounds strangely familiar Keith. Thats how it was here for 2 straight nights. Hope all is well.

Well.....it's 5:30am and I will be heading out the door shortly to head for Nationals. Should be a great day for traveling.....it is about 58 degrees here right now. Might even drive with the window down for a while. See everyone there.

well had my first

Encounter with the road , dropped fritz , jo-jo , and preacher . Had garmin on fritz and preacher and a radio collar on jo-jo not sure what happened maybe he was on off game ???? But jo-jo got off alone ,got fritz and preacher off the tree and searched and called for jo-jo for about 20 min w/no beep then got a phone call from a high school kid that had hit him about 3/4 of a mile away , I got there and jo-jo was gone and collar was broke guess we'll never know what he could have been now .

They didn't do to bad Richard. There were 3 Haze pups that were hunted. All 3 won a cast. Not to bad for pups....

Tom Tom did a lot better than his handler at NRBD. He won his cast on Thursday night with 200+. On Friday night we drew out with his littermate, Chick, and the Pro Handler. We were leading the cast with 525 + until I made a dumb call and got him 75 minus. Chick ended up beating us by 25 pts and winning the cast. I guess that this old man is just no match for these young Pro's. On Sat night Tom did his job but I could not get his coon to look until the time was up and we were walking away from the tree. He had 1st and 1st and would have won with 225+ which was enough for 7th place and would have finished him to Nt Ch. Oh well, we had a lot of fun anyway.

That's the way it goes I guess Richard. We'll see if Tom Tom can finish to Nite Ch. before Frog now.... We have two hunts this weekend and then I'm off to South Dakota for 10 days so that may be your chance.

Keith....sorry about Jo Jo. It happens and you never know when so keep your chin up and keep putting Lacy out there...she will make you a nice dog.

Chick is the one that we had better be watching out for. She and that Pro Handler showed Fri night that they can beat Tom Tom. She has 45 pts now. She just needs 2 more wins to make Nt Ch.

We will be in the south central section. we take part of our youth group each year and work with a church on the rosebud reservation. Won't have time to hunt or anything, will be going about 17 hours a day. Where are you located in SD?

Richard,
I'm not worried about the pro handler.........Frog has 55pts so she needs two cast wins as well. we'll see how it goes. I may have to just give you guys the opportunity because I think I will try and hunt Frog at Oaks this year, but she is due in heat around mid august.
