Cuz...
I talked to Mark today and he updated me on his latest adventures with Cuz and the rest of his outstanding hounds. He's pretty excited about Cuz and so am I. Starting a dog right is part of the equation but making a dog takes time and repetitions in the woods. Mark has always done his part with putting his dogs in the woods after coons or in the mountains after lion.
Over the last couple of nights, Cuz continues to progress and to open some eyes. He's just coming 8 months old and Mark said that he strikes legitimately and runs a track hard and fast. He uses a good locate and rolls it over on the tree...and has had the meat. He's willing to go his own way independently or he'll join other dogs if nothing is going on but he doesn't just run to them, he covers the track on his own and comes treed at the end. He'll swim fast water and hunt hard and work a track, sometimes one that others don't smell so easy...and he'll put a tree on the end of it.
Cuz comes from a nice cross between Yank and a first cousin female that has old Rat as her Grand sire. She is out of a female that is directly out of Joe Maitland's Pete dog so once again, this has proven to be a great combination. Old Rat shows up in the pedigree 3 times in three generations, along with a lot of other top hounds.
I try hard to not make a dog out to be more than he or she really is...I try to give an honest assessment of a dog or a cross with no blowing or making more out of it than what it really is...in this case...we're talking about a 7 month old pup that tracks and trees his own coons, split trees and holds pressure and does most everything else like an old dog...not a pup. He's another young dog out of this next generation out of Rabble Rouser, that is showing that putting the right dogs together will continue to produce top hounds.
Don't overlook these young studs like Haze, Rage, Yank, Moose and others that are directly out of old Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser and some top females like Long Tall Sally, Music, Annie, Starr, Page, Mya and others.
Yank has proven already that he can reproduce some outstanding young prospects and Moose has his first pups on the ground and available and I'd expect that they'll do much the same as what we've seen so far from Yank.
I have 3 male pups available from Moose and Leinie and one male pup available from Yank and Angel. $200 picked up here...it's a fair price but I'd predict that pups from these crosses won't be so cheap in the near future.

Unrealistic expectations are a roadblock to success, judge your dogs by what they are ready to give not by what you wish they'd do.
