I hunted Jet last night I posted the hunt on Wild n Blue Jet thread

I hunted Jet by himself last night. 1st drop Jet opened at about 150 yards. He went another 50 yards and treed. It was a big Oak tied to two Maples, with a lot of leafs. Couldn't find a coon. I Recasted him off that tree . Jet went about 200 yards and fell treed. It was a Big Den tree. I walked about 20 yards from the den tree and cut him again. He went 400 yards to the north then cut back southeast 325 yards. Jet opened 5 or 6 times went about 100 yards and treed on a small pine tree. Jet had the coon I rolled it out to him. We moved to a new location. I cut him lose along a hard woods and a corn field. He went 200 yards into the corn the cut up into the hard woods. He opened 2 times at 350 yards. Jet went another 150 yards and treed. He had the coon. I rolled it out to him. We went back to the truck and headed for home.

The weather has put the breaks on my hunting. It started raining at 2 pm Sat. on did not stop until Mon. am 30 to 50 mile an hr. winds. It started to rain around 3pm again. going to turn to snow tonight with 50 t0 60 mile an hr. wind gust

I had a friend come over last night that I haven't hunted with in years. He had never seen Chief hunt. I loaded up Chief, as well as Jet. It was about 8pm when we got started. The sky was clear, with a bright full moon. 1st drop. Chief struck right handed at about 325 yards. Jet chimed in right away. This was the most I have ever heard on the ground out of Jet. Both dogs where wide open full throttle. It was a red hot track in a hemlock swamp. They took the track 350 yards and slammed the tree together. It was a big hemlock, But we couldn't get the coon to look. 2nd drop. Chief struck a old cold track at 250 yards. The first words out of my mouth was, This is going to end up being a long walk. The yardage on the Garmin clicked off quickly As I watched my Garmin much to my surprise Jet was leading the way, but still had not opened. At .52 on the Garmin I could no longer hear Chief. Shortly after that the Garmin showed Jet treed then Chief. The Garmin said .62 miles. I was very surprised that I could not hear either dog. I searched the map on the Garmin, hoping we could drive closer. No such luck. The best I could due was 1.5 miles off any other rd. This meant we had to go swapping threw a hemlock swamp, behind a huge beaver pond. when we got about a half mile from them we went up a steep hill. As soon as we got to the top we could hear the dogs crystal clear. Neither dog broke one single time. Jet was short bawling ever breath. Chief was singing out at 100+ It took us a while to get to the tree. It made me proud to hear a 10 and a half year old dog tree that hard for that long. They had a double. Both coon where stretched out on the limbs as far as they could clime. We rolled one out. We give each dog their turn on it. I grabbed my poking stick for the long walk back, carefully poking each water hole to make sure the water wasn't over my chaps. when we got back to the side by side. we headed back to the house and called it a night.

I haven't been on computer much. Trying to Deer hunt and run hounds is tuff for this old man. I have hunted Jet a couple of times since my last post on him. Jet continues to do a good job. I like him. Nuff said.

Same here Dennis, 5 degrees at 5 pm Below 0 tonight. We got a foot and a half of snow on Christmas, And we are going to get another 6 inches tonight. The only hunting I will be doing is for my Chair next to the wood stove. take care and stay warm.

Dave, too bad there is not more interest from Bluetick folks for SS pups. If this male was SS I’d take him off your hands. He is bred to be a real stem winder.

I still have two pups out of Big Country fore sale. Price on pups is $450 .The are PKC SS and UKC Performance pups. the Pups are 7 weeks old. I bred Fancy to Chief last year. Fancy had her pups out of chief in March 2017. Mackie has one and he told me the pup sounds just like Chief when he is treed. I have had Very good reports on these pups. The pups are very tree minded, with very good mouths. You never know how a cross will turn out, But I feel that the Cross on Country and Fancy will have the same Results.

I have had three calls this week asking about breeding their female to Chief. I will be doing all breeding's other than my own females with semen stored at Never Gone in Wabash IN. Chief is pushing 11 years old. Last year Chief missed on two females, and two females took. I only bred him to 4 females last year. I do not want someone to invest the time and money, and come up empty. The Semen stored has been used Three times. One female had 13 pups 2nd female had 10 pups and the last female had 11 pups. Price on Semen is $350. You can Call Never Gone for other related fees. I think if you figure out Gas, travel time and other expenses, It could save you money in the long run. Dean will test your female to be sure that she is bred on the right day. Many times over the years I have had people come way to soon, and have to leave their female and make two trips. I have also have people that came to late and they made the trip for nothing. Chief is Number 7 on the current UKC reproducers list. I know of 4 dogs out of him with UKC 1st place wins that I hope get finished at least to Nite CH. this year. Chief also has others with UKC places in the Nite hunts, as well as some nice young prospects. I know of two extra nice hounds that are owed by pleasure hunters, that I would love to own. Iam going to bred one of my females to one of these males this year. Even If he never sees a Nite hunt. He is a nice hound. I hope everyone has a Safe, Successful, and happy 2018. thanks Dave
