They left Friday to go visit her dad in Scotland and that's where this picture was took. He posted it on Facebook and I copied it. They are all bundled up in coats and say its very cool over there. I need to see if they have coon, I might move to get out of this heat, lol!

This is a video of BO treed in the background across the Bogue Chitto River as I'm toting my boots wading across. Click on picture to see video. Its darker on this computer than on phone so might have to tilt screen and get right angle to see it. I took BO and Briar to BO's bottom and cut them loose. BO went just over 200yds, started locating, and after almost a minute settled into treeing. I knew he had winded a laid up coon and it took him a minute to zero in on tree. He had the coon and Briar was another 107yds further and sounded like he was baying another hole and he was so we went back to school on the same lesson. Cut them again and BO made a huge loop then came back across the trail behind me 30 minutes later headed south. In that thirty minutes, not a bark. Coon just weren't moving. Briar had hunted out 400yds in a different direction than BO but he came back without a bark. He is getting a lot better about not bumping any rabbits. After a little while my Garmin showed BO treed at 1 mile from where I was at but I couldn't hear him. It showed he wasn't far upriver from the house so as bad as I hated to do it I called home and woke up the wife and asked her to step out on the porch and see if she could hear him. She did and he was treeing upriver across the river from where we swim and Mason calls it Jakes Island. So Briar and I rode the few miles back out and around to the house. Beverly rode her 4 wheeler up the sandbar to me so I had her video me as I hit the river. The moon was high and BO treeing in the background I thought would be a video to remember. And that I could see the coon in the big water oak he was on from our side of the river. When we swim them, all the hounds are always winding sometimes across the river and give out a bawl from time to time. I figured it was a tree that coon laid up in during the day. So I went and got BO and we came back across the river and the swim helped cool him down as he had got hot from the length of time he had been treeing. He is becoming one of those hounds that you are going to pull off a tree somewhere, not much reverse left in him. I will hunt just him tonight because of the lack of coon movement early and the bright moon just isn't favoring Briar getting after a good Coon track. Glad he was treed close to the shallowest spot I know on this river as it got only up to my chest in the deepest spot. You know you had to wade a little water when you dump your boots out and a minnow hits the ground! Good Hunting!!

This is a picture of the Hilton Resort in Key Largo, Florida. This is where we stay when we go to the NASCAR RACE in Miami. All these long, hot hours at work have got me longing for some road trips and some fun. Time goes by so fast these days it will be time to pack the truck before I know it. We worked last night on I-10 and headed back tonight for a big pour at 1am in the morning. Hoping to be wrapped up and gone by lunch so I can get home and watch the race at the Tricky Triangle in Pocono, Pa. I should get to hunt Monday night and maybe Thursday of next week as I will be busy but the following week I should get in 4 nights of hunting. The month of August should finish up this weekend night work. Glad to get back to some Good Hunting!

This is the picture of Bo two years ago this month that stole my heart and launched my second chapter in coon hunting. While looking for Mason some old books on ebay, Where The Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller came up and I bought the two books but at that instant the fire that had burned for 20 years a coonhunter but had been smoldering for 9 years since getting out of coon hunting, Roared back to life upon seeing and thinking of the story in those two books. I got off ebay looked at my wife and told her that it just wasn't right for a almost 3 year old country boy to grow up on the river without a Bluetick puppy. I Googled up Bluetick puppies and Coon Dawg.com popped up. Went to the site and saw this picture of BO on there where Kenny Hulse and Phil Davis had these pups for sale. Studied the pedigree and that weekend Mason, Beverly and myself were making the long ride to get our pup. Now, two years later the memories we have from this little pup are priceless. He's out there now bawling wanting to go hunting, and we will, just killing a little time reminiscing and letting the night cool down a bit before I cut him. Going to post a few pictures of our Little BO as he and Mason grew up the past two years.

Those are memories you and Mason will enjoy forever...my 2 1/2 year old son (archer) was swimming and sharing a bag of potato chips with one of my bluetick prospects on the river this weekend. Archer would take a bite, give the dog a bite, and archer would finish up the chip...hopefully when me and you are gone, kids like Mason and Archer will be getting a bluetick puppy for a youngster of their own.

Picture of Star from yesterday evening. Went out to wash the pens down and she was running loose as she always is as long as someone is around the house. When I came down the steps a squirrel was near the house and took out across the back yard and Star spotted it and give chase. He went up this red oak and she went up on the tree first and by the time I got my phone out to take a picture she had dropped down and was checking out the scent then she got back on the tree. I snapped a couple pictures and went on to wash the pen down. She soon lost interest and came running by me wanting to play. I love to see some early signs of treeing BUT I don't want her to like the squirrels or her running loose days will come to a end at the young age of 4 months.

Rowdy if ole Stormy has us some pups you will get a good one I guarantee. I know that pup will get the best of care and the best chance to make it as anyone could give one.

Casey, your right, I hope we pass down the love of the hounds and the chase to a few young ones and even if it don't turn out to be their " Thing " then I still know the memories they made with us and these hounds will be with them always.

Picture of Star worrying Bo as he swims getting his exercise. Every day I swim them when I take one hound out in the deep to swim awhile, Star comes to. So she gets 3 times the swimming as the others do. I haven't hunted all week due to the extreme heat. When Bo got out of pocket the other night and was treed awhile until I came back home and waded the river it worried me that he was close to overheating. We are hitting 99 each day here lately and supposed to hit 102 over the weekend. I will be working on I-10 again. Supposed to get break in the heat by next weekend.

I feel for you and everyone else dealing with heat and drought! We've been spoiled up here in Wisconsin. It's been relatively mild with very few days over 90 and we've had an abundance of rain this summer. Hope you and other parts of the country get some relief and precip where needed soon!

This is a photo of the Bogue Chitto river where we live, the hounds and our playground. I hunt up and down the river and both sides for a good ways. With this aerial view its easy to see why years ago this river undermined the huge virgin cypress and a lot caved off into the river then over time were buried for 100's or 1,000's of years. There are old river channels as far west as a half mile. Over time this river straightens out some of these curves and when it does, uncovers these sleeping giants called " Sinker Cypress ". I got this aerial view idea from Rowdy's thread, " The Blue Dog Project ". He posted an aerial view of his hunting grounds and I thought it was pretty cool. Gives you a different look other than your standard snap shot.

JHannack, thanks, I hope we get some rain and a break in this heat soon. How's your two pups doing? One of these days I'm going to have to get me a pup off Joker, he looks and sounds like a fine hound.

The pups are doing good. Right now I'm just letting them be pups and working on the basics. Another month or two I'll start Coon Academy, looking forward to fall. I think in a few months you'll start to hear more about Joker pups, I like mine.....time will tell if my feelings are right. I got high hopes for both these pups, just have to be patient and when the time is right give them their opportunity. Good luck with your pups!

Sunrise in the sky this morning over the job. We worked all night and will be out here until 5pm or so this evening. When I saw the sunrise I sure was wishing I was coon hunting and headed to Bo or Briar treed on the last tree from a long night of cool hunting. It made me think of my ole hound, Bonnie, from years ago. I had hunted all night and almost daybreak she got on a good track, worked it up and was pouring it to him in the Chatawa swamps. She ran him hard about 20 minutes then treed. As I came out of the swamp into an overgrown field of brown broom sage grass the sun was coming up with spectacular colors in it like the one I have pictured here. About 75 yards out in this overgrown field was a lone Popular tree and that's where Bonnie was treed. As I walked her way I was looking in awe at the sunrise and the huge coon in the top of the popular that had golden yellow leaves on it because it was October and on the cool side. That coon looked like a bear cub setting in that tree. It was just one of those moments that stick with you and this mornings sunrise brought that memory rushing back. I was toting a rifle that morning and I hadn't shot a coon all night even though she had treed a few and I didn't shoot this one either. To have done that on that morning would have been like a cloud hiding that beautiful sunrise. Everything that morning at that instant was perfect in my mind and I wasn't changing a thing.

Need a little advise from guys that raise pups from time to time. Been years and years since I have raised a litter and I sure don't remember stressing over it half as bad as I've been stressing the past week. Stormy isn't eating. For over a week she has been off her feed. I give them a cup and a half to two cups in the morning and again at night. Victor, purple bag, great stuff. Well she slacked off eating over a week ago and the past 4 days hardly eating at all. I bet she hasn't ate 4 cups total the past 4 days. The week before I bred her she was wormed, took her to vet today and he don't see a thing wrong with her. Temp is 100.4, she weighs 55 pounds. I have put chicken broth on food, makes no difference. I put a little water on it and she nibbles a little. Don't want to mix table scraps in it or when I stop she will not eat the dog feed again most likely. It has been screaming hot the past week so maybe that's it. I put her in my air conditioned building out back and put the temp on 77. I have the kids wading pool in it that she will whelp in so she will be plenty used to it when the time comes. Hoping in a day or two she will go to eating. Have any of you experienced a gyp doing this or what do you mix with their feed a few weeks before whelping, if anything?

How close is she to whelping? I would say the heat and being pregnant combined is what's making her miserable. I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure you'll see a change after being in the ac. I use to always start feeding puppy food before they have pups, then keep them on it while nursing. And if the mother is still being drained by the pups I would add satin balls. You can look the recipe up online, it's a mixture of hamburger and other natural ingredients. I know some would argue, but I never had an issue and it really helped keep the weight on. Plus I have never had a dog that wouldn't eat them.

Thanks JHannack, she's just half way there. Still 4 1/2 weeks left to go. She ate a little this evening so I'm still hoping it was the heat and now in the AC she will start feeling better. I swim her almost every day a little for exercise and that cools her off too.

We had some rain build up close to us this evening and even though it didn't rain it dropped the temp from 98 to 80 real quick. Never thought 80 could feel so good! We also have a front coming tomorrow with a good chance of rain and even though the temp is still going to be 95 during the day the temp at night is supposed to get down to 67 and the humidity will drop a lot. Took Bo and Briar to Bo's bottom tonight and cut them near the beaver lake. Bo struck quick at 147yds followed by Briar. They rolled him about 200yds and hit the tree hard. I went in to them and found him high up peeping at me with one eye so I hooked Briar back and left Bo loose. Fired off three quick shots and heard one connect and down he came. When he hit the ground Bo got ahold quick but let go quicker. Plenty fight in this one so I cut Briar loose as this is what he needs. It was interesting there for a minute but he took care of business. He was some proud and I loved him up good and we came on home. Short hunt but a good one. Let Briar think about it until tomorrow night and if its cooler we will go again. Good Hunting!

Just got home from work and looked in on Stormy and she had ate all her feed from this morning so I feel all is going to be ok with the ole girl. Extreme heat was taking a toll and I'm glad I put her on in the building with the AC.

Took them across the road from the house tonight and cut them together down the cypress slough. Briar struck first at close to 300yds with Bo right behind. Bo brought the track back up the slough my way while Briar took his down the slough and off to the left into the swamp bottom. I was near the county road and didn't want Bo getting on it so I ran him down and got my hands on him but had to dive as he tried to cut around me. I caught him but my light flew off my head down the slough bank. About that time I heard Briar hit his tree over 400yds down the slough. I got my light and me and Bo headed his way. Same ole story, half way to him he hushed so I stopped. Watched the Garmin as he drifted further down the slough looking for the track, came back to the tree and treed one minute and quit it again. I'm thinking he took the track the wrong way and Bo was carrying it the right way but not completely sure but one thing I am sure about is that this stuff is getting old. I have 3 more hard weekends of work then I can get back to a normal schedule and my plan is to hunt the hide off Bo and get him and me back in shape then start hitting the hunts with him. Briar is headed to Troy out in OK. and will get the hair hunted off him for a few months while I push Bo. I feel this is best thing to do for both hounds. It will start to cool off and weather conditions get better so hopefully Troy can get Briar to treeing right on a regular basic's. If not he will come home and be Mason's and my squirrel dog I guess. Good Hunting!

Today Mason started his first day at school as he heads off to Parklane. He is so excited and proud he is in the " Big Boy School ". Unlike me when I went, I hated it. So proud of him and not ashamed to say I shed a tear when his Momma sent these pictures to me.
