New Pups Soon!!! Stormy, ( Ole MaMa ) is less than two weeks away from being busy tending to the litter that will produce the UKC World Champ! If your gonna dream dream BIG!! I finished that job this morning that has consumed 5 months of my life and disrupted my hunting, they lucky I have dogs to feed or I might have quit, lol! Yaw don't know how happy I was to put that job in my rear view mirror at 8am this morning headed home. I will be off this week and getting things caught up around here, Briar dropped off to Troy and hunting Bo hard and hitting some hunts soon. I have them circled in the back of my magazines the ones that are close enough to hit. I paid him up as a Performance Sire a couple months ago and have received the DNA Certificate but they still don't have him listed on here as a Performance Sire. They cash that check quick but update at a slow rate. PKC cashed their check quick too and I have the paper work back on him and Stormy for their single registration into PKC and had sent DNA in on them. Pups will be Permanently Nominated into UKC Performance Program and SS Nominated. I will pour concrete for new pup pen in couple weeks and have it finished by the time pups are 3 weeks old and ready to be moved outside. Looking forward to them.

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes Guys on here and Facebook. Like I said on Facebook, my age is a Small number compared to the miles on my odometer! Hard Miles!!

Big Country, yes, if that new female works out she would cross well on my BO but that's a few years down the road but it is one of the reasons she was bought. Stormy is 8 years old and I need a good female to be up and coming to fill her spot in a couple years.

Briar under his Sand Dune Coon under the Full Moon. What a hunt and what a walk I had to get to Briar and get these pictures. Hunt to remember. I took him and Bo to the Haunted House Bottom where Bo treed 5 the other night. Thought we would get on a couple quick but yaw know how that goes. They were over 700yds before Briar struck a good track and started moving it back my way fairly quick. But Bo wasn't saying anything yet on the Garmin he was close to Briar and just drifting along off to one side it looked like. Briar got the track rolling then would break down a minute then pick it back up and move it on out again but still not a bawl out of Bo yet. So I started thinking this wasn't right but it wasn't a deer and I didn't think it was a hog. I kind of feel he was on a fox but not positive. They came within 100yds of me and headed toward the river almost a mile away. Bo started opening at 650yds and fell treed 953yds from me but Briar rolled on. No way to ride to Bo, all walking and some of it rough so I grabbed the rifle off the 4 wheeler and took off. Bo was treed on a big cypress and I saw the coon as I came in to the tree. Setting up high and wide eyes so knew it was a big one. Not wanting to risk killing a sow I left this one to run again. I got Bo off tree and listened for Briar. He had fell treed 607yds further down the swamp bottom right at the river. In fact looking at the Garmin I wasn't sure that he wasn't across the river. He had been running at least 45 minutes and knew he was hot so I didn't think he would stay treed long enough for me to get there. I was WRONG. Took Bo and I a while but we made it and 100yds before we got to him we came out of the swamp onto a big Sandbar and Briar was treed out on it on top of a Sand Dune surrounded by young Willows and River Birch trees. Coon was laid out on the limb of a Willow and Briar was on top of Sand Dune hammering away. He might have floated junk a little while but he ended up under a big boar coon and I was some proud. Took these pictures then knocked him out to young Briar. I was .77mi from 4 wheeler when I checked Garmin and it was a hike back but I enjoyed every step thinking about these two young, independent hounds treed 600yds apart and both having coon. Good Hunting!!

That right there is what it's all about...I have a spare light that kid can have if he needs a light. It's not new, but it has shined many a coon ( probably a opossum or three and a couple armidillos..haha) Youth are the future of hunting and a little kindness goes a long way.

Took BO alone tonight and we just walked down the driveway and I cut him down the cypress slough headed south toward the river. He went in just over 500yds and struck a feeder track and started working it back my way but a few hundred yards to the east. We don't have a lot of traffic on the road by the house but anytime one starts trailing toward the road I move to head them off. I made it to where I figured the coon went over the road just as BO came up the road bed into the blacktop. I got my hands on him even though he tried to duck around me and we started home. I hadn't walked 50yds and he was stepping like a Tennessee Walking Horse winding as we went when all of a sudden he blew up and was pulling me to the side of the road. I pulled him back and cut my red light on and threw it into the big oak and there he was half way up looking at me with both eyes. I went back to walking praising BO as we went. He threw a fit but finally give it up and came on with me quietly. Decided to make it short tonight as Justin and I are pulling that Sinker Cypress tomorrow that I found last week. Will take a few pictures and post tomorrow.


Thanks for compliment on the pictures Jamie. I'm rooting for Ole Briar too. Yes I feel as you that a couple of months with Troy hunting him hard by himself is just what he needs.

Justin and I pulled the Sinker Cypress today. In the first picture I'm cutting it where it goes into the bank on the other side of the river from where I live. Using a Stihl with a 42" Bar. 2nd and 3rd picture I am winching it across river as the water boils over it. Take notice of the color of it where it was cut. 4th picture we have it on our side behind the winch. At this point I decide the lengths I want and cut it so I can pull it home. Total length was 54' and the diameter was 25". We cut it in 2- 19' lengths and had a 16' for the last pull. Last picture they are all together in the yard. Now notice how much darker the color is. When you get it above water and the air hits it the color changes in a matter of minutes. Pulling this Sinker took 2 hours start to finish, they don't always go that good. I have spent two entire days pulling some.

First I want to Thank Troy Sheffield and Jody Goodson for a great time pleasure hunting with them on a big ranch last night. Every time I go on a road trip and hunt somewhere else I get spoiled and last night was no different. Lots of coon, open woods, pasture with pecan orchards and rode the UTV up under one tree. Jody was hunting a Black and Tan that we will call Rambler. He hasn't officially named him yet and we were kicking around a few choices last night. Troy was hunting Leroy and I had Bo. We pulled up to the first drop and Jody spotted two kitten coon setting up in a little tree about 50yds in front of us. We took the hounds down to the creek on our left and cut them. After a little running around and checking things out Rambler fell treed and Bo and Leroy came in and backed him. He had 3 young coons up a tree and Jody saw another setting up across the creek. Troy and I were catching some flack about the Black hound putting it on our Blue ones. We drove a little ways out in the pasture and cut loose at a pond. After just a little bit and Bo had only gone out 200yds here he came back. I don't know if he was confused by all the open country as he is used to being cut in bad swamps and thickets or he was being lazy or maybe touched one of the hot wires running around the field but I wasn't real happy getting embarrassed by my potlicker so I led him a little ways and smacked his rear end with my open hand and he left out. The other two were off to the side maybe a 100yds and Rambler went to trailing. I watched the Garmin and it wasn't long and Bo was over 800yds and he went to locating and locked down treed. We drove his way and stopped about 300yds from him to listen and he wasn't treeing. About that time the other two opened a few times in there and Rambler got on the tree followed by Leroy and Bo. On way in we spotted 2 more little coons setting up. We didn't find the coon in the big oak the hounds were on so we rode a ways and cut them again. Rambler struck hot and was rolling with it and Troy was teasing Jody that he had saw a couple deer and that was probably what the Black hound was running. About that time Bo slammed the tree followed by the other two hounds. We drove up to the tree and looked at that coon in the pecan tree they were on. Rewarded them and moved a little and cut them again. Bo made a small loop and came back by us and after a little while him and Leroy treed about 700yds from us. We rode to them and they were on the tree the two kitten coons were in earlier but we couldn't find them. They were either hid up higher or had moved on and the hounds missed them. Rambler had got to himself and sounded treed so Jody took out to him and said when he got back that he was treeing in an area winding up in some trees but he didn't find the coon. Not the greatest of hound work as we were all grumbling they should have got gone quicker on each turnout but it was a great time with two guys I just met but have heard about for years and looking forward to hunting with them again. It was as dry or drier up there as it is here at home and trailing conditions were terrible and coons were sitting up except for that one hot, short race. I got in bed at motel at 2am this morning and Bo was pawing and biting the covers and pulling them off me 3 hours later at 5am wanting to head home so we got up and put it in the wind. Made it home at 3pm this afternoon. Hard to imagine cutting loose in these tough woods around here after getting spoiled last night. Troy said he could put me in some bad stuff last night to remind me of home but I told him I wasn't Homesick so save those thickets for another trip!!

Tracking is tough right now here. The ground is dry and the humidity is high. What scent hits the ground dries up quick. Great pictures as always Steve.

These two pictures are also from our ROAD TRIP. The first is a CROSS, made out of a crooked post out in a field. It wasn't turned enough to get the picture just right but I rode up the shoulder of the road to the best spot to get this picture as the Sun Rose, just like HIS SON ROSE.
The other is a ASH DEVIL. Riding down I-20 I looked out into this field to see 5 Dust Devil looking spirals rising hundreds of feet into the air. The field had been recently burned so it was the ASH that made up this miniature looking tornado.

Wendell I am planning on hitting all the hunts I can starting with the Lucedale hunt south of Hattiesburg next Saturday the 12th. When and where is State Hunt? If its listed I missed it.

Yes I will plan on hitting it. If Stormy gets her pups raised up they will be 7 weeks old on Halloween. I promised to deliver one up north a ways so I will do it that weekend if it works out with the new owner so I can hit the State Hunt the first weekend of November.

Mr. B. H. Patterson and Kade Turnage and his Grandpa and his Dad came for a hunt tonight but not a lot to brag on. Black Branch Swamp is dry, I mean bone dry. Been living here 19 years and this is first time I have seen that entire swamp dry up. Bo ended up 1.09mi from the entrance to the swamp and I just could hear him treed. We rode up the county road and got within 600yds of him but the rest was walking in bad stuff to get to him. Grandpa Turnage went with me and Bo was treed hard on a big tupelo gum that the top was broke out of and look hollow there. We looked but didn't find one on the outside from the couple spots we could shine from. By the time we got back to the 4 wheeler it was about midnight so we came on in. One thing I did find on the way out with BO was a small creek and it was shallow and you could see small mudcats everywhere and they are great bait for Spotted Cats, better known as Flatheads. I will be back in there with a dip net getting some to set lines with in the river very soon. Kade is excited about the pup he is getting off Stormy and Bo. Sure hope all goes well when she has the pups and I can see the smile on his face when he picks his pup up. Maybe we can get some rain and cooler weather soon so BO can show them a little better hunt, its tough trailing for hounds right now.
