SLACKING!!!

Well I didn't get to go last night. Drake hit a deer in my Nissan and it is in the shop for repair. We were hunting in his Ford Ranger and his wheel bearing started roaring bad. Got to repair it this afternoon and I dread it!! We just took off last night. I gave them coons a break last night but they better not relax too much cause I will be back this weekend!1 LOL

up date on Stroker last night he made 2 trees and had both coons. but the best part of the night was he turned down 2 deer races,1 possum treeing, and a Diller baying while treeing the 2 coons. He is really starting to turn it own. first time he has been hunted with another dog in a few weeks.

Hunt

Hunted Cotton in a ukc hunt last night. Had a 4 dog cast. Had 3 split trees. English gyp had a coon. Two walkers had a slick tree but ran into a den. Cotton had a den about 100 yds past them. Had a first tree next drop. Another den. Just couldn't get a break. English gyp looked good. We will try again. Darren

ROCK

Got ole Rock back at the kennel yesterday. He is steadily coming back around. He has treed several coons over the past couple of weeks. I'm gone turn him loose tonight and see if he can continue to get it done.

MAJOR- Talked to Jeff Montgomery yesterday and he said Major has started to operate for him. Took him a few turnouts to warm up to Jeff but he has treed him a couple coons over the weekend. He is liking him.

HUNT

Drake and myself went for a little while last night. We cut Rock and my Cy pup loose in the bottom. Rock struck a bad track and started working it down the bottom. He was struggling some and located a couple trees but moved on deeper. We walked in to get closer and I seen why he was struggling. The bottom was flooded out and water was everywhere. I got wet pretty quick so I didn't worry too much about it after I done had wet feet. I was proud of my Cy pup as he never barked on the water at all, he just busted right on in it. Rock ended up over a mile and we walked back to the truck and drove around within about 750 yds of him and he was treed. We got in to him and he was on a den tree. By the time we got to the truck it was already 10:30 and Drake has school so we called it a night and headed to put up dogs. We will regroup and try again. My Cy pup is going hunting good with other dogs but hasn't done much. He hasn't seen but one coon and he liked it but I got to start putting some more time in him. He is 7 mths old and seems to be mature enough to start putting some pressure on him. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hunt

Cut Cotton and CY loose in bottom. They went 800 yds and made a hard right. After about 45 minutes Cotton just blew up on a tree. She was 500 yds deep. We got to her and she was on a big den tree. Next drop we cut BB and Rock in the hills. They followed a branch out of the hills and into the bottom. About an hour and 2 miles later we finally picked them coming up a ditch next to a gravel road. Didn't even get a bark. Moon shining and this crazy weather ain't made for good coonhunts. It will get better soon but them dang aggravating leaves are fixin to be on the trees!!! HUNT

I have been trying to acquire a half sister to Cotton for a few weeks now and finally got it done yesterday. Sadie Mae is a good looking gyp with a huge mouth. She has had limited hunting but that is about to change.
I went by myself last night. First drop I cut Rock and Sadie loose in the bottom. Rock struck about 600 yds in the bottom and Sadie put in with him. They worked the track out of the bottom into the hills. Rock loaded up and Sadie loaded up and treed surprisingly good. I finally got in to them and they were on a huge cedar tree with a nest. Couldn't get a coon to look so don't know if they had him or not. Next drop I cut Cotton alone. She struck in at about 200 yds and worked a track thru a big swamp to the creek. She came on a tree with 3 or 4 huge screaming locates and lit up the woods. I drove around and went in to her and she was on a HUGE oak tree. I looked and looked but could not find her coon. It could have been there and I didn't see him. The tree was so big it was hard to even look it over. I had to drag her away from the tree as she acted like she was looking at the coon!! It was 11:30 and I called it a night. I hate this time of the year. 2 drops and already 11:30. Hard on a man that has to be at work at 6 am everyday. I will try to get some pics of Sadie on here soon.

Hunt

Hunted for awhile last night. First drop we cut Rock and Sadie Mae. Sadie struck first followed by Rock. They worked the track on down the bottom and Rock soon loaded up treed. Sadie backed him and we got in there and it was a den tree. Fifth den I have made this week. I guess sows are staying close. Next drop I cut Cotton and Sadie. Cotton struck a bad track and worked it up the bottom. Sadie started opening soon and it wasn't long til Cotton loaded up treed. Same ole story, den tree. Last drop we cut Cotton and Rock together. They split up and Cotton soon hit a sorry track. She took longer than usual to get it moved out. She finally located and treed but sounded unsure. I got there and she was on a huge vine running into a poplar tree. It was slick. She missed him. Coons are starting to eat the poplar buds around here. We ended up catching Rock coming across a cow pasture and called it a night. We gone hit it again Monday night. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

Hunt

Drake and myself went for a while last night. We started off the week on a better note. I cut Rock and my Cyclone pup loose and they hunted hard. Rock skipped the country on me and we had to drive around. He was trailing in a bad area without a lot of timber other than on the ditch banks. I got close to CY and finally called him out. We left ole Rock in there trailing at 10:00. We moved on over the road and cut Cotton , CY and his sister Hooker. Cotton struck in about 150 yds and located almost immediately. She didn't sound right and soon moved on up the bottom. She worked the track 300 yds and let out her locate right and treed. We got there and both pups were there as well. We started squalling and that ole coon got that crazy look in his eyes. He must have decided to commit suicide and fell right to Cotton. Both pups got fired up and really were aggressive on the coon. I laid a drag and CY really showed out on the tree. No jumping, no chewing, just every breath , up on tree hammering. If he develops into this kind of tree dog, oh man he will be nice. We went back around and finally caught Rock coming down a ditch thru a cutover. Got in bed at 1:15am, got up at 5:15am. Gone be a fun day. Lol.
