Well, this hunt is just in the idea stages right now and anyone can take the ideas that have been talked about here and organize it and make it a reality. I wouldn't be able to help much from here if a hunt like this was going to be put on in Ada....other than promising that I would be there to compete. In the first few years...this hunt will probably have to be sponsored by a club unless one of the associations wanted to get on board...or one of the registries wanted to sanction it. So, if a club undertakes it then the hunt will probably be theirs from then on. If a registry or association gets behind it, then it would probably be theirs and they could move it around if they wanted to. I do see a problem with having a hunt like this as far west as Ada....and that would be that it will probably keep alot of dogs who would enter if it were centrally located from making the trip. But like I said....if anyone puts on a redbone only elimination hunt....I will drive there and hunt wherever it is. I will keep track of all the ideas i see on here that might make this hunt better and more appealing and may at some point try to post some rough guidlines. I would like to see a hunt like this happen next spring possibly between late march and early may. There are alot of things to check into and plan out and if people keep posting that they will show up and enter a hunt like this....I will see if I can put it together....so let me know if your interested and would enter.

Shane are you telling me people wouldn't compete for the title of last redbone standing unless there are great prizes involved. To me just knowing I had the best of the best would be enough

Well I would also...but sadly...most people want more than a title. Remember the thread that took off last year over a few people not being happy with what they won at national redbone days? So to answer your question.....I do think you will get more people to enter if there is something that offsets the expense of making the trip and paying the entry fee.

Hey Shane...personally I'd just be interested in a trophy .Money is nice but a trophy to me would be just as good. However it is set up...Thunder and I would like to participate.

April and May are two of the best months in my area. Thing about fall is there are so many other big hunts going on and the leaves are still on....and many people have already used up alot of their vacation days ....and alot of guys are just waiting for kill season to open and participation in competition hunts starts to drop off. In the spring everyone is ready to go after a long winter, coons have moved out into new areas during the breeding season, most people have plenty of vacation days and tax money left to plan the trip

I love red bones

Sorry if I offend anyone. My opinion is redbone folks are satisfied to be the high scoring redbone. Your goal should be to win the hunt. Look at little red and boo boo. Push your dogs to that level. I am sure there are more. Instead of being the best redbone be the best dog. This thread is just more settling to be the best redbone. If you look at the big events you will have your answer. The redbone that beats the other breeds.

You sound like someone who has won alot of big events and knows what it takes to win against top level dogs of other breeds.....if you don't mind...I was just wondering what big hunts you have won?
This hunt is unlike any other hunt in the redbone breed....and the idea came about to bring out and identify the top redbones in the country and see how they stack up against each other...but also to show the owners of the other dogs in your cast what your dog has to offer the breed without alot of other breeds of dogs getting in the way of that. I know that when I go to a competition hunt, unless its a redbone hunt...I am usually the only guy there with a redbone....so it is hard to get a chance to see other redbones hunt head to head in competition. I would imagine that there would be a great many spectators wanting to go along on the 2nd night as the field gets narrowed down to the final 12-16 best redbones who have won their casts. Where else can you see the best go head to head with the best of the redbone breed? Pkc redbone days....possibly. but this hunt would allow even a kid with a good redbone who doesn't even have a title or win to it's name to walk up, enter and show the world what he has on the end of his leash. It could be a hunt where a pleasure hunter can enter his dog and prove what he has been saying all along....that pr dogs can be just as good as gr.nt.ch. dogs. It's a hunt where titles do not matter....you can draw out with any other dog from a pr dog to one of the highest titled dogs in the breed. To me....there is a place for a hunt like this in every breed and we have a chance to do it first.

Thanks for proving my point. Yeah if only those other breeds would just stay home. I know which redbones are the best. This event would prove nothing.

Maybe...or it might help guys gauge their breeding programs and evaluate their stock...or allow them to see something in a different strain that they want to introduce into their lines. Why does this event have to prove something? I am completely confident in Thunders' abilities...but not so blinded through my ownership of him that I don't want to gauge his faults by hunting him against other red dogs and other hounds. I've turned down a lot of money for him and I won't ever consider selling him, but for every good dog out there, there are some that are better. My goal is to consistantly improve my lines...this hunt might be a good barometer. Beyond that, it might just be plain fun

Really....you know which redbones are the best? Well why don't you list out the top 5 redbones that you consider the best at this time....so we can all see. I am sure that your list will not be disputed by anyone...lol
Maybe you fail to see that a hunt like this isn't to prove anything to you or anyone else that "already know which redbones are the best" ....it's for those of us who don't know which ones are the best because maybe we have never drawn out with many of the redbones out there that have been winning over the past year or two.
I am very anxious to hear your opinion of who the best redbones are at this time....so please do list them out for us and if you could....maybe just explain what criteria you used to decide which redbones are the best. Thank you in advance for posting your expert opinion. If you do have a way of determining which redbones are the best....well then the rest of us can just save our entry fees and a hunt like this would not even be necessary.... because when ever we want to know about a dog....we can just ask you

Sounds good to me

We have the option to go hunt against other breeds every weekend of the year.
runnin rebels,
You only get to go to 1 hunt a year or what?

Sounds like a good hunt to me. I'll try and be there.

Some Bluetick Hunters have an event simular to this near me. They don't call it a World Hunt it is for cash, and not sactioned by any KC . UKC rules and rounds like the other KC . Blue dogs only . They meet top Bluetick Hunters and get to hunt against their dogs . The people that I know that hunt really enjoy this hunt . It is a one night event . This Redbone hunt could called a World Hunt and the title and Trophy I think would be enough to make people want to particapate . After all I have Redbones and hunt them because it's fun. This hunt would be fun . Coon hunting is what I do to relax and have fun .
