Hot and humid here today. Was hoping the rain would bring cooler temps, but it didn't. Next wk's forecast is looking good.
Jas was getting a little cinchy so decided to come home today. We rode 3 hrs Wed, and 5 hrs on Thursday and Friday.
Glad I came home because Chuck wanted to take the dogs to a bench show. Dandy didn't get anything, but Ruby won Best Overall Dog of Show!!! They got ice cream on the way home.

Personally I don't think we need all those corporation farms either Chuck, but it's another sign of the times.Seen on the tv this mornin' 3 bros. in Indiana farm 20,000 acres together,up in the Dakotas they farm sections instead of acres(640 acres in a section).....that's just way too much ground for me to cover,I'd own it not farm it.

up around where TD lives ,when we were kids the pheasants were thick and I mean thick.you could see a couple 100 birds a day...due to the greedy farming practices .I bet we be hard pushed to come up with 200 birds in the whole county now....

The lack of pheasants is the reason I don't have bird dogs anymore. It's like seeing a unicorn when you see a rooster scratching up grit on the road side. There are several groups along the fence rows, love listening to them in the morning.

I never saw wild turkeys growing up, now they are everywhere & thick. They are hard on pheasants.

Well I met a couple neighbors today & everyone in the neighborhood knows Rose. Last Friday she was ready to roll after her meds, ended up at a fussy older lady's house who has these big well kept flower beds. A 15 minute drive around the section but 1.5-2 miles up the creek. Last winter she live trapped 43 coons in 2 weeks. She was tickled to death when the guy who drove to my place explained to her what Rose was bred to do.

Rose was a lady & didn't do anything to those wonderful flowerbeds. Just kept her company while she worked, they took a walk together to the Eastern edge of my place but Rose walked back home with her.

So the secret is out I have 3 coonhounds & one that is tracking a mountain lion with help from the other two. We're going to talk later this week about that, a colt was put down 2 miles from me from a big cat. No one had a problem with her visits, just watered her & chatted with her. We do need to remove what is drawing her away from my place.

The guy who connected the dots wouldn't stop laughing, he has German Short Hairs who also free range also knew what Rose's titles meant. As much as he was on his phone pretty sure the Township knows

I promised to keep the dogs tied up, he shook his head & said no. Seems everyone has also been enjoying the visits & have shot coons the girls have treed on their place or treed on my place.

Now going to enjoy 2 days off & my last week on this shift.

Just saw the state DNR report for the pheasant & quail, they claim record numbers on quail & very good numbers on pheasants.

Sure wish they'd share what they are smoking.

No but there is plenty of ditch weed all over.

Lucy brought up a smallish kit earlier this afternoon. Now they are driving something around in the corn a few rows deep trying to get it up to the back yard.

Should have heard the fit Rose threw when she got tied out & the girls treed a cat in the Elm tree just out of her sight & way out of the cable's range.

We had 3 doves on our porch roof last week. PA Game Commission stocks ringnecks. We and my in-laws are signed up in a public access program so they stock ringnecks on r property. We see them for a wk or 2 and then they disappear...hope hunters are getting them and not foxes. The ones they stocked last yr at my in-laws made it thru the winter and hatched babies. Mother-in-law isn't too happy they're eating her 🍅s.

I try to stay in touch with the people that bought r pups. One guy said he may come to his camp this wkend. If he does, he's going to stop in with his 🐶, Duke....hope he does. He said Duke is doing well on coon, his friend bought a littermate, Scout. He said Scout is a little afraid, but both pups are doing well. Another pup, Stella is chasing bears out of the yd in VA. Two r beloved house pups. Another female, Mimi, was bought to compete with, but haven't heard how she's doing. Gunner's owner was working with him on a hide, but haven't heard how he's doing lately. They all have nice bawl voices...the reason I know is because the first time, we heard Dandy barking I thought Ruby was being attacked by something!! I texted everyone to see how their dogs sounded. Ruby has a BIG BOOMING BAWL....Dandy definitely doesn't have his moms voice, but he might be able to keep up with her 115 barks/min.
