Hey Mark, tell Regan congratulations from me...that's a nice cat for the young man.

The pictures look like something straight off the pages of a history book...it's really cool to see how that old mine has survived the elements for all the years and how you all are climbing high on steps that have seen a lot of history, right back to the days when old time miners worked the rock...good stuff.

One of the things that always struck me when I was out there with you guys, was how rugged and remote some of those places are. It's about as close as you can get to another time and place where time almost stands still and wild animals in wild places still rule like they did for hundreds of years. There aren't many places like that left anymore and it's great that we can still experience it...I know it's one of the things I'm most grateful for in my life.

Good luck with your back and the rest of the season Mark, I hope both get better and better.

Tom,
On the 10th we treed 4 times and got 3. Rebel (blue collar on left) is out of Yankee and Red is out of Rabble Rouser. Another good night in the Wabash River bottoms. Rebel is sure keeping his own with the older dogs.

I love the part where you "cut the track" one night and then went back the next day and turned the dogs loose. I would be out riding around every night looking for tracks! I wonder if I see a coon crossing the road one night, could I bring my dogs back the next morning and run him. What kind of old mine was it? I saw where a guy said that it was so cold when he went ouside his shadow froze to the ground!

That's how cat hunting goes. Can't run at night so we find tracks at night and sit on them till daylight when we can turn dogs loose. Mark didn't just go home and then come back the next day. When you find a track you park your truck on it and sleep until you start to freeze, then you start the truck until the heater runs you out and shut the truck off, then you sleep till you freeze. Repeat this until daylight and then turn loose. If you drive off a track someone else will claim it.

Hey Troy...it's good to hear from you...the picture of those two dogs is great...I'm glad to see that Rebel is still getting with the program. I remember when he was just a little guy, you sent a picture and comment about how he just took to the scent and treed hard as a little pup. He is a mate to Dave Woofter's Ace dog and he has a couple of other brothers doing real well also...and maybe even a sister or two. I don't remember but is that male out of Rabble Rouser and Pastor Mike's Pigeon female? That was a pretty good litter of dogs...another brother just got killed on the road and he had two first place wins. Haze, Sid and Hurnie all finished and most of the rest of the litter were real nice dogs too...Locket can get a coon treed now and then.

Hey Kevin...you left out the part about sleeping on a pile of clothes and gear piled up so high in the back of the truck that you can't even stretch your legs enough to keep the blood circulating. A person doesn't think you can sleep under those kinds of conditions but...when you're tired enough...you can sleep just about anywhere...eh?

The pups are lookin' good Tim...they've got a real nice make up...lots of legs...eh? I'd say they're going to make nice hounds in the next year or so...that's nice to see.

We've got about 26" of snow on the ground and it's 6 above zero right now...another 3-6" of snow predicted starting tomorrow around noon and through the night...geez...winter has set in for good up here.

You're right tom, I did forget that part. It's not comfortable but it's **** sure worth it. Happy holidays to you and yours. My Sage dog has pups so it's just me and Billy. He's treed two bobcats by himself so far. Can't wait till next year to get a Billy x Sage pup under some cats. The T-top stuff is a big part of my dogs and they work well for me. Glad I used a couple of Mark's good males out of your stock in my breeding program.

We got another 5" of snow overnight so now we're over 30" so far this winter...shut down tight for the moment.

The dogs don't seem to care much, they get regular meals and lots of action running around that deep snow in the big pen...it's kind of funny to watch the pups, they're still thinking that it's fun...they'll get over that soon enough.

I've been messing with the idea of getting a conversion kit for either my 4-wheeler or the Ranger...convert to tracks and make a snow machine out of one of them. It's supposed to work good but kind of a good price on it too...we'll see how bad it gets before I start going stir crazy and break down and do it...maybe Santa will bring it for me for Christmas...eh?

Hey Tom,
I feel for you and all that snow you guys have. We may have about 8"-10" here. We had some freezing rain/mix crap on and off today. Then the fog rolled in.
I took Tater and EZ out for a drop just before dark. Just to get them out. EZ stayed with Tater all the way out to 850 yards until I called them in. We were back by 5:30. Didn't get nothing. I didn't even see no tracks along the creek there. It was a nice walk any way.
Made a new friend out there. Ran into a yote hunter. He's probably still grumbling. He'll get over it.

Have a Merry Christmas. I maybe up your way Sat Jan. 22. I may pop over for a quick visit. Stay warm eh!!!

Good looking pups Carl, I see you've got them off to the right kind of start already

That's what I love about pups...there is a world of potential in every one and it's still the most rewarding aspect of being in hounds...always looking forward to how they'll develop and how far they can go and the adventures we'll share as time moves on.

It's the dead of winter and...I hate to say it but I'm already looking forward to open ground and milder days so we can mess with the young dogs and start working on the next project.

Good luck with your pups Carl, I'll be an interested spectator to see how they come along.

This tom was the from last week.I was not to leave the house the doc said but a truck is kind of like a house,and a snowmobile is kind of like a truck,so I made it to another tree.The dogs did a good job after a rough start they figured it out and were treed for quite some time before we got to them.

Great pictures Mark...it's good to see that Cuz is liking those lions, I think he's going to make a real good one based off how he started on coons, tracking and treeing at 8 months of age. He'll be hard as an oak bark shingle by the end of winter and in good shape for when you guys are able to get after coons again.

I'm glad it all worked out for you to get to that tree...I know how much you love to miss out on the action

We've got a couple of feet of snow on the ground and now they're talking about rain on top of that and a couple of days in the upper 30s. I don't mind rain as long as it isn't below freezing when it's falling and if it packs down the snow enough so that we can mess with the young dogs...that would suit me fine. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will stay warm enough to keep from freezing and then rain enough to even open up a little ground...of course...I suppose we'd be flooded out again if all that happens but...I could sure stand a little less snow so we can get a dog out now and then.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that the New Year brings everything you all can hope for...and then some.

I suppose it's a matter of what a person likes to do. For coon hunting in these hills...it's about impossible but if you're into snowmobiling or other winter sports...I suppose it's great to have this much snow. It really slows life down for a few months when it's like this because it limits what you can do and where you can go.

Dave got himself a snowmobile so maybe we can combine snowmobiling and training somewhere down the road. If we can make enough tracks so that walking isn't so difficult, we can still do some pup training on the good days on the weekends. Right now, there isn't much to disturb the snow except for the places where the deer are digging for food every night...other than that, it's a pristine scene of smooth white rippled only be waves of drifts across the landscape...heck of a deal...eh?

If it gets above freezing for a few days in a row, it will settle the snow cover and if it rains...who knows, we might be able to get around a bit and even turn a dog loose now and then...we can always wish...

We had a great hunt tonight and man it was fun. Treed 3 and seen 4. Yes Moose put on a pound or two over the last two week's. We will get it worked off by the Grand as long as the weather does not get bad again. Here is a few picture from to night.

They look good on the wood and it sure sounds like you guys had a bang of a good time. It's good to see a little snow on the ground, Moose should feel right at home...eh?

Moose gives it everything he's got every time out so it usually doesn't take him long to burn himself back into good hunting rig so I hope the weather holds for you guys so you can get some good hunting time on him before the Grand American.

I took Moose and Willow's little brother and sister last night too. I went with Terry Ramey to a new spot.
We treed 4 coons and a den tree. Mr Independant Tom was split by himself twice with 2 of the
coons and with the others on 1

Tom and Terry's dog, Hit. Chick was around behind the tree.
