Good weekend...
It has been a good weekend for sure...I've enjoyed hearing about how things have worked out and how they continue to fall into place.
Congratulations to Wendall, Buck and Willow on another first place win and her finish to Nite Champion.
I also see where a nice male Rabble grandpup under a year of age, got a first place win last night with a decent score.
Overall, Moose picked up a Nite Ch win with Richard at the controls, Willow finished to Nite Ch with Buck at the controls and one of those nice Rabble Grandpups, a male out of Don Barnett's Deuce male, got a first place win with Johnny at the controls...that's a good weekend by anyone's standard.
Richard, remember that Slim, our male out of Moose and Leinie, was tracking and treeing already this last fall at 8 months of age, before winter shut us down and he was holding his own on most tracks and trees. He's a great prospect from that "test" cross and you're right, he has some brothers and sisters out there that are going to also open some eyes by next fall. One other thing to mention about Slim is that he's a good looking cuss and has started growing into a real nice male...he's very dark and has great feet and legs so he may be a legitimate dual threat as he matures.
We still have 18" of snow on the ground and it was below 0 again this morning...we don't need to hunt that bad, things will fall into place come spring, just like they always do. On the other hand, Dave does have a snowmobile and he was out here with his boys yesterday making some trails up along the woods so we can at least do a little bit of training if the weather breaks even a little.
You need to name your next pup Aaron...not Brett...Go Packers!
One last thing...for years, we never worried about saving semen from a male dog because we always expect our next stud to come from our own line up close. I'll have to admit that sometimes I wish we would have saved some straws from Rat and Rabble but not to sell matings, just to keep ourselves in touch with some of that blood up close just in case something drastic would happen. Right now, I wouldn't worry a minute about it because we can get it back strong from several sources around the country and that's a good feeling. Remember also that Yank has some very nice pups on the ground right now, one of them has 2 first place wins and a few others are doing real good on coons and also on lion and bobcat out west. If you look at the pups that Woofter has out of Ace and Douke, it really is about as close as you can get to acheiving what we set out to do...put old Rat in a pedigree up close 4 times with just about every dog in our line in one pedigree, not to mention Rusty, Bomber, Bell and many others...good stuff.
