Pups

Tom,looked like a purdy good time up north today. I love the intensity on their faces looking up. I would say that all of them are pretty good prospects. Maybe by this coming week end dogs will be out of heat and get back to a few more hunts. Pups really look good.

Saturday night

I heard from Bret H. again today and he had another pretty good night with Badger. He said that Badger took a long and pretty difficult track across a couple of creeks and into a rugged bluff but came out the other side with the meat...

Badger...on the wood...

Gotta love these young hounds that start putting it together more and more...good stuff...eh?

Hey Tim, the pups did good today, I don't think that there's going to be too many more sessions like this happening for these young hounds.

Deacon is looking real good and starting next week, he's going to be moved up to lead dog status so we'll see how those 3 remaining youngsters handle it. I know one thing for sure, when they locate a tree and get to treeing on it...they sound real good.

He should Richard...folks can't forget that Sally is a big part of this equation...she has proven that it's not a one dog deal...it takes two to complete the equation...eh?

I like these young dogs and I like how doubling or tripling up on the right blood keeps producing the same outcome.

Dogs are dogs but I can just about predict the course of action for any one of them and not be too far off track and that means we have seen it before...again and again.

The right mix at the right point in time can keep the strengths we have come to expect and still provide some vigor to the bloodlines we have come to love.

"The right mix", I can't wait for that next mixture coming out of Arkansas! My patience is wearing thin. Even I can predict the outcome of that mixture.

Talk nice

I think old Sally needs to hear your voice Richard...give Don a call and have him put the phone next to one of those long ol' ears of hers and then you can explain the situation to her...of course, I doubt she'd listen, she's probably enjoying the good life and soaking up some rays while contemplating her next move...eh?

Too bad there's not another female somewhere close that's already in heat...you could put them close together and I'll bet it wouldn't take her long after that.

I can't remember her holding out so long while she was up here but...I can't hardly remember yesterday so I suppose it could have happened.

I'd guess that those pups will be some real fire crackers and with a lot of sense and go power so I hope she gets with the program soon. Heck...I'll have another couple of these youngsters tracking and treeing at night before she decides she's in the mood for love

MOE update....

Took Moe out last night for one tree and it happen:

He is so good alone. Still with company he wants to bark behind them some, unless he strikes first.

He will be 1 in a couple of days.

Moe

I responded on the other post Rob but I'll say it again here...he's a real nice prospect and it won't be long and folks will have something to contend with for sure. He's pretty young yet and some of those annoying little things they do because of all that enthusiasm, will start to go away as he matures more but any time you can reach him and he's doing it, give him a little reminder from me that you don't want him to do it

I really like Slim a lot, he has a ton of go in him and very aggressive and tree minded. I'm very excited to get him in the woods this spring to see how he picks up from last fall.

Hunting

We actually have a decent stretch of weather coming up over the next week or so...at least for these parts it's decent. I expect that we'll hit near 50 a few times and into the weekend so I'm looking forward to it.

If Saturday is a good night, we may even try and make a hunt and see how that all shapes up.

Slim is ready for full time action, we'll just see how he picks it up again, I'd guess that it won't take too much more and he'll be ready to single out. It's going to be real interesting to see how Gun reacts to the woods but I'll venture to say that he's going to put a lot of pressure on those pups that are a few months older than he is...we'll see...eh?

Smoke looks good and it sounds like she's coming back into shape real nice after a long, hard winter.

For the folks who don't know Smoke...

Her sire is

Gr. Nite Ch. Gr. Ch. PR Outlaw Razor Red

Her dam is

Dual Gr. Ch. PR Soggy Bottom T-Top Shadow

Shadow is out of Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser and Smoke spent some time here at T-Top before Pete took her and finished her into a nice hound. She made Nite Ch. pretty quick and is a real nice female with good sense and a bright future. At some point down the road in the not too distant future, we'll look to line her back to Moose, Yank or one of the other real nice first cousin males out there that came out of Rabble Rouser...those should be outstanding prospects with some very good blood mixed in top to bottom.

Lil Will, head throwed back and ears a floppin, it's in the blood.

Wendall, "belly rubbing, slobber slinging, toenails dug in", yea it's in the blood. Just go back and look at all of these pictures and ask yourself what do they all have in common? Mr Solberg, do you have any pictures of the "cookie" himself?

Mr. Lambert ----

I really like that lower picture where the hound puts it's head back. I was talking to a friend last night about some of the post "of late". I got on the subject of how some of these "dogs" are so bull headed and only really hunt for themsleves. How when you get to the tree, they run around and around. And if you are back at the truck, with GPS today you can really see it, call their name and off they go the other way. Some of the best I have owned would have their front toe nails in the wood and put their head on your shoulder when you walked up and would pet them. They treed it for me, I was the one they were trying to please, not themsleves. And they would back a hound treeing with the meat or let another join them, none of this BS of having to "get" by themsleves.

I think this has to be the only "sport" where we pick a winner who doesn't have to play on the same ball field, basketball court or race track??? I can just see this Sundays NASCAR race---- The Lowes #48 is in the lead so the M-M's #18 goes and races on a different track??? How can you really know who is the best that day if you aren't judge on the same track??? I bet it would be fun to see a hunt where only one tree/coon is scored per drop. Whoever gets first strike gets to pick the tree that is scored for that drop. I guess that would be to much like "pleasure" hunting for some, to see how the "4" come into the tree and in what order.

I"m just glad that my WI chicken buddy still has those that do it right!!

I was going to tell Mr Taff that is the way that you "train" them to throw their head back like that. When you are too slow then you have to be by yourself in order to be "first". Did you see where Buck said that Moose was already struck and treed before the other dogs could even get struck on the last drop this past weekend. When you are racing, it is all about the speed.

Dogs

I've got a few pictures here of some dogs that were good all the way around...they were good in the yard and they were good in the woods. We want a dog with coon sense, that takes their tracks as they find them and then gets treed with the meat. Moose finished pretty quick but just turned 3 a few days ago so he has completed his quest to title before he even became a mature male. These young dogs we're messing with today have a very good foundation of dogs that could tree a coon in style and they were dogs you could like and not just have to put up with...

There is some history in these pictures...really good hounds that are up close in what we carry forward today.

I might have some regrets about how we were able to competiton hunt these hounds...but never any regrets with how we put them together to get to where we are today.

When you add dogs like Sally to the mix, who has similar traits all across the board, and some of these other real nice females that we were fortunate enough to put with old Rabble Rouser, we feel like it was surely another series of steps in the right direction.

Tom, I believe that you just took a couple of pictures of Moose and made them a little blurry so that they would appear older. I have always heard that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
