Just look at little Fastball and Expo, belly rubbing tree dogs already! I can't believe that Buck has that 9 yr old and 4 weeks pregnant female hunting out there in those mountains. Buck left one night and Robbie and I snuck her out until 5 AM doing a little "pup training". She treed just as hard at 5 AM as she did at 9:30 PM. Moe looked real nice up there. Joe is going to have as close to that big warbling locate like Lil Zack as I have heard. Joe will make a nice hound also. Joe and Moe look like twins, but you know that. They looked the same at 8 weeks old. Were there any females in that litter? Moose not only looked good but he sounded good also. Tom you would have been real proud of all those T-Top hounds that were there. It is a shame that you and Dave could not have been there. It was truly a "hunting expedition" and will be a great memory.

Twins

Yep...that's why I always called them the twins...

Those are nice prospects and by the time the next season rolls around, they'll be more mature and I'd bet it will be a fun fall and winter season for them both.

We're heading south to Iowa for a couple of days to enjoy some pleasure hunting with Aaron and some other folks...we're taking the camera so hopefully we can find a coon to tree down there so we can get some pictures to share when we get back.

We're looking forward to the trip and to visiting some good friends in that part of the country.

Female in litter

Richard...I forgot to answer the other question you had...there was a female in the litter and she is down in southern Iowa close to where I'll be over the next couple of days. Maybe I'll get a chance to see how she has grown...I hear that she is tracking along and treeing some and from what I hear, she's got a good motor on her. Aaron took two females down there, one out of Yank and Angel and one out of Moose and Leinie and they've got them both going in the woods...they don't happen by accident, it takes a good foundation and then time in the woods to make a dog...but you know that...eh?

I'm hoping to visit with a few folks down that way who have pups from our line, just to get an update and if I'm lucky, to see what they're growing into.

Va Hunting Trip

We had a great time at the T-top Bloodline hunt in VA> It did not work out that we got to hunt MOE and Joe togather, maybe next year. I reckon you can ask Richard about MOE, he has a better eye of what should be going on with him at his age. I think he did pretty good. We had a great time with Buck, Paster Mike and all the guys who came up. Me and Richard did get the most of it hunting all night. David really did treat us great from cooking to hunting.
I will keep on hunting MOE but it is going to be on dry land now. Swamps are starting to fill up with snakes. He has done it in swamps as good as any, so dry land should allow him really to push some tracks right up the tree.

That's right Robbie...it will be a fun ride if we give those youngsters the best opportunities to succeed because the rest will take care of itself...just like it always does with these good young prospects. I'm glad to hear that you all had a good time, those are the moments we should all be working to enjoy...that's what it's all about.

So I'm sitting here waiting for it to cool off a little more and reading. Then I remembered something. I took EZ out with Tarter last Fri. night looking for JJ. I was hoping she'd come in if she heard them. Well you know that didn't happen. But I do have some vid and a pic of EZ on the tree. I heard her yip and yap a little. but didn't fully strike in. But she's getting the tree.
I'm taking all 3 out tonight. Crazy eh?
Good luck this weekend Tom and have safe trip.
Scott

That's pretty cool Scott...if there's anything better related to hounds than when a pup gets their trigger tripped...I don't know what it is.

I think we're gonna take Gun along just to see how he handles being around dogs he doesn't know...it should be a good time.

Aaron does have the litter mate sister to Haze...Gr. Nite Ch. Ch. PR South Skunk Siderella (Sid)

She's a nice hound, very laid back and easy going in the pen but she's gone when you turn her loose and can get a track up and tree it like a hound dog should.

Does she have pups on the ground yet?? Not just exactly yet...but it won't be long. She is about 2 and a half weeks away from whelping and from what I saw of her this weekend, she's going to have a nice litter.

She is mated to PR Griz I don't know his full name but he is directly out of the Rabble Rouser and Music cross and has two first place wins in UKC so just needs any cast win to finish. He's an outstanding tree dog and put up real nice.

Griz and Sid is a half brother/half sister cross with Rabble Rouser being the common sire. I'm thinking the cross should have some real potential and we'll be excited to see those pups on the ground,.

Weekend.

We had a good visit with Aaron and some of the folks down in Southern Iowa the last couple of days but, unfortunately, we brought some northern weather with us and it rained pretty hard all day and all night on Friday and Saturday nights. We went out anyway and made a couple of trees on Friday night...

Yank...

My Grandson Cruz with Yank...

Cruz along with Yank and a nice female out of Yank and Angel...

The female in the picture is owned by Aaron and she's coming on real nice and just turned a year old. She has a great mouth and a real good motor. She has already sat down and treed her own coon and she has an independent streak that I think is going to serve her well as she matures.

We also got to see a female out of the Moose and Leinie litter go but it was pretty much pouring rain and I wasn't going to take the camera out in all that. We should have stayed in that second night but we went out in that rain and wind and got soaked and half froze while the dogs did the same...and nothing much more so we called it an early night.

I'm excited about those two young females because I'd bet they're going to be real nice hounds in the next year or so.

We enjoyed our stay and the time we spent with Aaron and Josh so even though it was a miserable stretch of weather, the time we got to spend together and get caught up was great...thanks for putting up with us again for the last couple of days.

Did any of the pups out of the Rabble X Music cross get finished to Gr Nt? They could produce an All Grand litter couldn't they? Sid X Griz sounds like an excellant cross, kinda like the Moose X Hernie cross. Didn't Don Barnett cross Deuce with a Music female? (Bacon and Copper) Aaron sure has some enviable dogs. (There goes my jeolously again.)

To my knowledge, every pup out of the Rabble/Music cross made coon dogs. Randy Ficken's performance male is out of that litter. I know one of the Sturkus boys made a female a Nt Ch at 10 months. Tom took Griz back home for the summer. Apparently, he thought to owner wasn't doing the dog justice. lol Just kidding, Tom. I kind of took it as an honor of being asked.

The little male we're going to call Cuz...what can I say? He's just 15 weeks old and he furred up like a big dog and was treeing hard today. He found that coon and the hair stood up on his back like he was mad and it wasn't long and he had talked himself into going face to face with a big coon and then sat and treed like he meant it.

Cuz is out of Yank and a female that shows Rat as her grand sire on one side and Pete as her grand sire on the other side....good stuff or what?

You'll hear the names of these pups again somewhere down the road.

Not long

That's right Richard...it didn't take long. We all look for those good young prospects to put our time into but it's still a shot in the dark unless there is a good foundation under them at the start. I love it when those youngsters start putting it together and then just continue to improve and before we know it...we've got a coon dog on our hands...good stuff.

Randy Ficken has a male Gr. Nite Ch. PR Ficken's Deep Woods Rocky and he is the first Gr. Nite Ch from the Rabble and Music cross. It was a pretty good mix I think and there might be one or two more that have a chance from that cross...including Griz.

Tim...we're the ones who appreciate your willingness to allow Griz to come home with us so we can put some time into him. I could see that you have the same kind of knee problems that I have so I know it's hard to get out without having to suffer through it. Dave is a good dog man and hunts these dogs like they need it and with school almost out for the summer, it will be the perfect time to put Griz through the drill and see what else we can pull out of him.

Don Barnett did make a double Rabble cross between Deuce and a female called Music Maker so it should be interesting to see if that cross or this one with Griz and Sid will make an impact. I like those kinds of crosses and love to see how it plays out over time. There's never a guarantee but now we're back to how I started this response...if we start with a real good foundation and see some sign of interest at an early age, that's a great comination to look forward to somewhere down the road.

So, Gr Nt Ficken's Deepwoods Rocky and Gr Nt Bear's Crosscountry Deuce can both produce a 3 Gen All Grand Pedigree? I believe that the pups out of Deuce and the Nt Ch Melody Music female are already starting to have an impact. Didn't one of them get a win at the Ark State hunt this past weekend? I believe that he won 50 Purina points. Does Rocky have any pups on the ground yet? Pups out of Deuce and Rocky should cross very well together. Now that would really be putting some top reproducers together!

Richard

That pup (Bacon) that won friday night is from Deuce/ Tina. He is a litter mate to the Copper pup in MO. Copper likes 25 points to be NTCH.The Deuce/Music pups are only 8 or 9 weeks old. Jason and I have decided to sell a male from Deuce/ Music that we where going to keep. I hate to let him go but it is in his best intrest. We are trying not to get bogged down to the point that any of our pups wind up on the back burner. I realy belive these crosses with Deuce are going to be the real deal.

PR' T-Top Dark Timber's Dagger Ghost

T-Top Dagger's Ghost

Tom this is the first time Dagger ever saw a coon or smelled a coon. I took the coon a drink of water then poured the water over the coon and make a short track with the trap. I left it sitting on the ground and went back and turned Dagger loose like always for a walk in the woods. I got out close to where the coon was and all hell broke loose. Dagger was trying to tear the trap up. I ran to the trap and pulled the coon up and he treed over 100 a minute on the coon. I lead him away and back to the house. The rest is up to you. These Ace pup tree easy. Dagger is doubled up both sides on the old Rat dog. He may have it all as he is a looker too. Ace/Douke cross ( Brother to Elli Mae and Bubba )

ace pups

I know a thing or two about how easy these ace pups start!! I have a male out of (ace/cherry) link is one of the easiest dogs I have ever started! He is a get gone type of hound and has been doing a great job!! My partner also has a ace/douke. Pup that goes crazy over a cage coon and tracked and treed on it at 5 months!

Dagger

Hey Dave...those are some real nice pictures...they kind of tell the story straight forward...eh?

Here's a picture I have that he didn't post...

Dagger is wound tight...

It's like I said, you start with a good foundation and then give them the education, opportunity and repetitions, maybe something special is brewin' for the future.

By wound tight I mean

Gr Nt. Ch. PR T-Top Tree Talkin' Red Rat X 4

Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser X 2

Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rock-N-Red Raven X 2

Gr. Nt. Ch. PR T-Top Rocky X 2

Gr. Nt. Ch PR Hoffmeister's Red Bomber X 2

Gr. Nt. Ch. PR Morietta's Tree Ringin' Bell X 2

Gr. Nt. Ch. PR Hoffmeister's Rusty Red X 4

I really like what I see with what Ace is doing when mated tight on his line but I'm guessing that he'll contribute to any cross with good females. It's maybe a little easier to figure it out when line crossing but even then, there's no guarantee that a cross will work between two dogs...it takes a special male to be able to reproduce with what ever he is put with but putting him with good females from good foundations can only improve the outcome so I'll be interested to see what happens when he gets more chances. No matter what, based off these first two females he was mated to, I do believe it's in the future to see those crosses made again.

Ace Pups

Thanks for the good words about the Ace pups. Joseph what does your Friend call his pup out of Douke. I liked that pup and Link a lot. The pup he has is the one I was going to send my friend Topdog until I decided to let Dagger go North. Ace has two litters of pups all under a year old and we could fill a page on these posts with pups treeing out of him. He has a lot of good T-Top and Hoffmeister blood in him. Thanks for Ace Tom. Good luck everyone with your Ace pups. Dave P.S. Tom I think your Gun dog looks more like Ace on the wood than any of his pups. Most of his pups like on the wood.
