Years ago it really did'nt matter if you had a monkey faced, blue eyed, crooked tail, liver ticked hound. When Grandpa Carl was starting out in the 40's you could go to a hunt and hunt anything that would tree a coon. People also bred coon dog to coon dog back then. Now a days you see people breeding dogs based on looks. If you look back in old full cry magazines of the late 40's it could have been a ukc bluetick breed standard to have monkey faced blueticks.
You will also read in some of those ads that they will not stud their hound to a short eared, narrow nosed, grey hound or fox hound type. Hounds looked like hounds back then. Now you see the narrow noses and short eared models. What I call comp style hounds. Who ruined the breed? I can bet ya that you dont have to go to a grey hound, fox hound short eared type of hound to win comp hunts. When you give up the traits of the foundation hounds you end up with junk. JMO.
