ILLINOIS HUNTING TRIP

We made it home tonight from another great trip to Illinois Coon Hunting with Mr. Ed Mauney. Every trip there are memories made that are permanently imprinted into my mind. Special moments that are to never be forgotten and this trip was no exception. I could write half a book on our 5 nights of hunting and our adventures but will only touch here on the High Points. First a HUGE THANK YOU to the Mauney Family. They opened their Cabin up and Hunting grounds to me and Beverly and 4 potlickers for the week. Mrs. Mary cooked up the finest home cooked meals a Man or Woman could ever hope to have. Delicious is an understatement and even though we hunted 5 to 6 hours a night for 5 nights and climbed some pretty steep hills I know I gained at least 5 pounds! The memories that stand out the most on the hounds in that 5 nights are as follows: Bobbie, Miss Consistent. Last time I hunted with her she was 3 for 3. Bang, bang, bang. First night this trip I hunted with her she was 3 for 3, Bang, bang, bang. Makes it look so simple so fast. Bo, treed a couple, struggled with some tracks in the dry conditions and the feeder tracks with gobs of Acorns. More Acorns than I have ever seen. Bob, took a decent track 525 yards quick and treed on a Massive Red Oak with as Fine and Powerful mouth as you could ever want to hear on a hound. Got treed ahead of Bo a couple times and the last night we hunted him with Bobbie he got all 3 trees on his Mom. With each Coon treed I can see Huge increase in his confidence. Screaming fast track dog that will not hesitate to fall treed on a feeder coon that's laid up with a full belly. He started a couple weeks ago getting the tree on Bo some. I put a few coon on him here and he has took off like a Rocket in the Progress he has made. I thought it was just his good week and Bo's bad week but when you hear him get a few trees on his Mom who is the finest female I have ever hunted with then he Really gets your attention. Super Star in the Making. Bam, Mr. Independent. Bam was hunted with Bo once, Bobbie twice and by himself once. He made 10 trees. Every one of them ALONE. Split from Bobbie or Bo anywhere from 50' to several hundred yards. Does not matter, Bam gets Alone with the Coon. 10 trees he had 5 single coon, 1 possum, 3 big oaks full of leaves so circle them up and 1 slick thicket. By that I mean he came treed baying in a bad thicket. I think the track ran out and he just couldn't pick it up to move it so he called me to the last spot he had scent. Both young hounds are 15 months old hunting a long way from the swamps of Mississippi and the Bogue Chitto River in dry conditions on feeder tracks from a lot of coon eating gobs of acorns going tree to tree. I was very pleased with what I seen. Each young hound has a different style of hunting and trailing but both produce the same end result, Treed with a Coon. The pressure is on ME now, not the hounds. They have proved they belong here and deserving to eat my feed now I have to hold up my end and keep these two in the woods so they reach their Full Potential. Very excited about what the future holds for these two hounds as is Mr. Ed. Going to be a fun ride.
We also saw several huge bucks while out hunting. Lots of other young bucks and does. Spent a day in the Amish area and had a great time. Looking forward to going back next month when season is in and we can drop a couple down to two very deserving young hounds.
Terry glad to hear Ole Stormy got to make a round. Sure hope she takes this time when you breed her to Boomer 11 and you get good pups on the ground. When I come back to Mr. Ed's next month if it's where you could come down and hunt with us some I would sure like to meet you and see Bam's brother, Lighting go. Take Care.
