Bought me a new Coon Hunting Ride today. I was at my Uncles doing a job for him and my Aunt with some Sinker Cypress and the shop called with update on 4 wheeler which wasn't good. Said when the rear bearing went out it messed up the Hub, Spindle, Brake caliper and the other side Bearing needed changing. Over 700 bucks for parts and labor. I told them to fix it cause what else ya gonna do? I got off the phone fussing about it and my Uncle said if I knew anyone looking for a Side by Side he said he was selling his. I said, What you Got? Yamaha Rhino. I went back to his shop and looked at it and said how much? It still looked almost new so I was prepared for sticker shock but he said 2,500 bucks. I told him let me take my Jobsite Toolbox off my 4 wheeler trailer and lets load her up. As we were doing this my Aunt came out and got in our business telling him he should check with his Son in Law before he sold his stuff. I could see a great deal going out the window so I started moving faster getting it on my trailer and strapped down. Handed him the money and told him I was getting tired and would finish the job of casing in his post on his porch with Sinker Cypress tomorrow! I never looked in my rear view mirror as I left, don't know if my Aunt was killing him or not, Lol!!

Congrats on the new rig, looks brand new and a great price! I've had 4 wheelers my whole life but those side by sides are the way to go! I think you'll be pleased.

Thanks Jeremy and Tommy. I took it hunting last night and love it. Tommy its only 2" wider outside tire to outside tire than my Artic Cat 650 H1 4 Wheeler and maybe a foot longer. I load it on the same Pro Pull Trailer 5 X 10 and have a few inches clearance on each side just like with 4 wheeler. I believe it turns around in a tighter radius also. That 4 wheeler gets a little light in the front end when I have two hounds on back but the Rhino don't. I already have a side by side, my Kubota but its a Farm, Ranch, Yard Work Horse. Just not good with the turf tires for the mud and swamp so that's why I needed the Rhino. I went back to my Uncles yesterday and finished that job and all was quite, lol! Not a word was said about the Deal. His Son in Law might be Unhappy along with his Wife but his Nephew is Mighty Proud!!

Took Bob down River in the boat last night and he made two trees. First one was in a thicket and couldn't shine it. Next one was up on top of bluff on edge field and that's the tree he was on in the picture. Coon den right beside it in a dead snag and I feel the coon was home. Just before I got to him I came upon a creek with the steep bluff on other side. I found a River Birch Tree growing out of the bank a few feet above the water so used it to pull myself up to get started climbing the bluff. Just as I got my feet planted and straightened up the snake that's coiled in the picture struck my boot just below the knee and recoiled back into the strike position you see him in. I slowly leaned back against the River Birch and took his picture then shot his head off. Bob never quit treeing 50 yards away on top of bluff. By time I got to Bob my hands were shaking pretty good. It all happened so fast I didn't have time to think what if? What if he had struck while I was trying to pull myself up? He was even with my face then so I would have been struck in the face or chest. Maybe arm. It wouldn't have been good. I wear Lacrosse Aeroheads and they have a thick shield of rubber on front where he hit and the fangs didn't get through the chaps and boot. I had been hurting with nerve pain in my lower back going down my right leg and was making this my last tree anyway and the snake only convinced me that was for sure the right choice, GO HOME.

Steve, that's a little to close for comfort. If the lord had let that snake strike a minute earlier and he had got you in the face or chest. You would have really been in trouble. Take care.

The past 5 days my lower back and Scatic Nerve going down my right leg has been giving me a lot of pain. I didn't hunt last night because of it but I forced myself to take Bam down River in the boat tonight. Just as we were getting to where I was going to cut him on East side of River I spotted something I have never seen. An Albino Coon was wading the shallow water right where I usually beach the boat. I throttled back to get slowed down as I dug for my phone to try and get his picture. During this time Bam spotted him and went nuts and just as I snapped a shaky picture the coon was goon into the weeds headed to bigger timber. I pulled in and tied up and text Mr. Ed about it after I cut Bam. About had decided if Bam treed it I wasn't shooting it, just going to try and get video and pictures. Well Bam left with the track but he sure wasn't flying like I thought he should have been. He ended up treed over 250yds away in the Old dead River Bed full of water where the River used to flow 100 years ago or more. There was a fallen big rotten tree from one side to the other about 3' off the water and Bam was in the water swimming and treeing on this Coon Bridge. Bank was to steep for him to find his way up so he hung up. I waded in and got him and we found a spot to crawl to the top and I cut him again. he picked up the track and eventually treed on a big oak but if he was there I couldn't find him. We started back to the boat and had stopped on top of the High, Steep Bank looking for the Best way down when a Bull Frog decided to show Bam the Fastest way down! He looked as big as a young Rabbit when he jumped off the top lip of the bank going..... DOWN! 3 jumps and he covered the 30' and hit the water with a big splash with Bam and me coming in a close second! When Bam saw that huge thing take his first jump he launched us over the lip and down we went. Bam broke after that Bull frog like a fine horse at the Kentucky Derby breaking from the gate at the start of the Race. My feet flew up in the air and on my backside and in high gear we went. Never has any Kid on any Snow Slope came closed to the Speed Record me and Bam set tonight going down that 30' of muddy bank. We hit with a much bigger splash than the Bull frog and when I stood up in the waste deep water I was looking for our winning trophy and to get our picture took for a magazine. Surely after such a ride we deserve Something!! My gun barrel was plugged good. Not just the end, the whole dang barrel full of mud. The only time I seen that gun look Worse was when I let Mr. Jack hold on to it for a minute, But that's another good Tale from the Past. It's funny now but I was hurting pretty darn good and wasn't real happy with Bam. We slowly made our way up and out of that Old River Bed and back to the Boat. Thinking the whole ride home about Ghost Coons, Bull Frogs and Plugged Gun Barrels!!

Steve, I know it wasn't funny to you at the time, but I believe that's the funniest hunt that I have heard. It's 2 oclock in the morning and I have been sitting here reading and laughing at your hunt for the past 30 minutes. I have never heard of so much stuff happening in one hunt. I would not have wanted to go thru it with you, but I sure would have love to have been there watching, but I would have wanted to make sure that gun barrel was plugged good first. Steve I hope you are ok. I have had that siatic nerve problem before and I think that's the worst pain that I have ever had. I'll call you tomorrow and check on you.

Now that's a good story right there. I enjoyed reading that. You know OSHA requires fall protection, any time 6' above grade. Reinjuring you back, will this be a OSHA recordable, or losstime injury? Glade yall made it out of that safely.

Haven't been doing any hunting the past 5 nights or so. For over a week I have had pain in lower back and the Sciatic Nerve has been giving me fits. My Dr. has given me 3 different shots and other meds but still have problems with bad pain in my hip and down my leg. So I started doing stretches and exercises that have helped some and hoping by the time I leave late Wednesday night the pain will be gone or close to it. Headed back to Illinois to hunt with Mr. Ed and Caleb. They have had some rain and the leaves are falling and so are the temps. I think its supposed to be around the low 60's during the day and upper 30's at night. Looking forward to the memories we will make on this trip. Taking Bob and Bam and leaving Bo at home with Beverly. Both are going to be Mad with me, lol!

Thanks Roger. We did have a good time hunting with Mr. Ed and Caleb Mauney. I took Bob and Bam and Mr. Jack took Smoke. I have a Lot of good pictures from our trip but the Internet Signal is bad here for some reason today and I can't get them to upload to Photo Bucket but will go somewhere tomorrow and get a good signal and get them on here. I was going to try and hunt Bo tonight even though I'm still hobbled with lower back trouble but now I also have a stomach bug and running fever. I can't catch a break. Our 3 nights of hunting were action packed to say the least and I will only touch on the high points because writing about every track and tree and memory would fill a small size book. We treed and looked at 14 Coon in 3 nights of hunting about 4 hours each night. 15 coon if you count the one Bam treed that me and Caleb could see fur sticking out of a hollow hole where a limb used to be but we couldn't make him come out so I don't count that one. We hunted Bob and Smoke the first night and they looked Great. After riding in a dog box for 11 hours they made 4 trees Fast and we saw a single in the first 3 trees and a double in the last for a total of 5 Coon Treed Fast. Bobbie treed another Big Coon later that night. The next night was Bobbie, Smoke and Bam going the first round saving Bob to hunt by himself the late round. They got deep quick and struck with Bobbie and Smoke going left and Bam on down the creek and to the right. Bobbie and Smoke ran their coon down and caught him and he took to a pond and the fight was on. We finally finished the Coon and got them out of the pond and Bam was still hammering his tree 300 yards away in the darkness of the creek bottom. Caleb and I went to him and that's the Coon we couldn't get to come out of his hollow. Bobbie and Smoke treed another one over .80 tenths of a mile from us on the next drop. We took Bob later and on first drop he got in there and just fell treed on 3 laid up coon. Two were napping and one was looking. Last night of hunting Bob and Smoke done some good work but the memory that stands out the Most is Last Drop on Last Night and Bobbie and Bam got after one and fell treed 500 yards from us. I was hurting so bad by then I couldn't go to the tree so stayed at the truck with Mr. Ed. I was So Proud to be hearing that Independent Hound of mine hammering the tree with another dog, or So I Thought. Ends up they were 20 to 30 yards apart and Both had a Coon. Last Months trip and this trip Bam has made 17 trees and only once did he tree with another dog and that was Friday night behind the Cabin when he treed with Bobbie and Smoke on a Coon seen. The other trees he has done His Thing. Other memories include a lot of deer seen with several Big Bucks. I asked Mr. Jack one night to put a Little Light on one so it would show up in the picture good. He made that Deer Glow! Yaw will see when I post the pictures Mr. Jack sure knows how to Shine a Deer, Lol! Then the night the Coyotes closed in on us cutting up and sounding Mad and Hungry and with every Yap Mr. Jack picked up the pace until he was just a fading image out in front of me as I hobbled along in Pain thinking how Pack Animals like Wolves and Coyotes attack Old, Weak, Crippled Prey. Even though I was toting the Rifle because it's Not Good to let Mr. Jack Tote it, all I could think was " What a Buddy " as he disappeared from sight over the next hill! Thanks to All the Mauney's for another Great Time and for Mr. Jack going with me so I would have someone to pick on. Pictures coming tomorrow. Good Hunting!

Mr. Ed I enjoyed the trip and Thanks for having us again. If everything falls in place and the weather will act right for a few days in December I will try to make it back again. We will just have to wait and see. My back is doing some better but still not ready to winch any logs or do any sawmilling. Going to try and make a short round with Bo tonight. He hasn't been out in weeks and deserves a night in the Swamp.

Thanks Mr. Jack and Scott. The weather here in Florida is Sunny and Cool, feels great. This is a Video I took Friday evening in the Gulf out from Destin as we were on a Sunset Dolphin Cruise. Had a great time and saw plenty Dolphins that Mason and us love to see. My back is slowly feeling better. I will be back to hunting Monday night. I walked a half mile on the Sugar White Sand this morning and it feels better. Big Nascar Race today for the Championship and Mason and I will be hollering for Jimmie to get his 7th Championship. We don't watch it or support it like we used to but we will be watching today. The man is a great driver and deserves his chance to tie Richard Petty and Dale Sr. for most all time. Mr. Jack if we ever get a little rain in Mississippi I will be ready to go to the Delta Forest and hunt a couple nights. I think we have some in the forecast next week, we sure need it. Scott I hope you still having fun with Creek and Tramp 11. Pups out of those two should have mouth, looks and ability 2nd to none. Take Care.

Video of Bob treed under 3 in Illinois last week. Starts out showing the coons eyes highest in the tree then the bright moon. The other two were setting lower huddled up and sleeping it looked like. This was the 2nd night and we were hunting Bob alone a few drops. After a few coon down to him on the 1st and 2nd night by the 3rd night he had settled into a hard steady chop mouth on tree. The fur in the mouth is really bringing him along and the longer he trees the harder he trees. Can't wait to be back in the swamp with him tomorrow night. Click on picture to see and hear Video.

We made it home from Destin Florida yesterday evening. Had a great time and Mason wore his Jimmie Johnson Fire Suit Sunday while watching the Race. Jimmie won the Race and His 7th Championship. His car couldn't get through inspection and Nascar found something they didn't like so they made Jimmie start dead last in 40th position. It was a 400 mile race and by lap 50 Jimmie was running 6th but that's where he stayed until the final 10 laps and a couple of the Chasers got into each other and it worked in Jimmies favor and he ended up winning even though he wasn't the fastest car. Couple lessons to be learned from this Race I told Mason. NEVER CHEAT and NEVER GIVE UP!!
