Yes, when we go out we like to go to a line that is strong line bred and one that is showing that it can reproduce winners. I guess you can't describe how Kate is put together any better than that. There are some folks already putting the two lines together but it will be some time before those pups are born and then more time until we can see what's going to come of it. There are some other crosses already made where pups are a little older and seem to be showing some good traits so, once again it's a waiting game to see how things shake out.
Everyone is always looking for the next big thing and we're no different. I'm excited about the crosses being made and to see how things shape up. There are some good dog people working on it right now and it sure takes folks working together to be able to prove a hound's potential...it can't be done alone.
We made the cross on Annie about 3 years ago and some of the dogs from that cross have done well in the hunts, we are going to help a friend out with one of the males from that cross so we'll see how it goes.
We are watching closely and waiting patiently Shane...unfortunately, time passes and we all get a little older but it would be a real treat to see some of the crosses we have made turn out for the better and perhaps start a whole new direction with even more choices for Redbone people all over the country.
I don't much see a down side to making strong crosses into lines like Kate's or Outlaw blood and maybe it can give a shot of fresh blood and characteristics that will strengthen all. We have always line bred heavy to get the dogs we want to use to reproduce for the future but there comes a time when it dead ends and we have to go out...Kate and Outlaw blood has the winning history behind them, now it's a matter of finding the right combinations and then see where it goes from there. We're excited about the future.
Tom,
I agree...this is an exciting time for the redbone breed. I can't help but feel that this breed is on the verge of something great! There are so many people with specific goals and dedicated breeding programs that seem to be working harder than ever towards advancing this breed. Sometimes it's hard to see that these different breeders are also working together...but it is there if you look for it. I am glad to be a part of this breed at an important time like this and will work hard to do my part to help others who feel the same way. Best of luck with your future plans and I hope that someday we will see a grand culmination in the form of a true world champion redbone!
Shane
