All right Tom, you can have 3 weeks off. But then you had better be back in the woods! Or should I say, back in the truck? Have you sent in the entrys on Bo and Griz for Autumn Oaks yet? You know that Dave can hunt one on Fri and the other on Sat don't you?

I'm feeling better every day Dave...I appreciate all the well wishes from everyone.

I still wear out pretty quick by mid afternoon but pretty much most of the other symptoms are starting to disappear...and that's a great feeling.

It will start cooling down on Sunday with maybe a little rain and that makes me feel even better yet. We had heat index numbers that topped out at 115 for a few days and that's not fit for man nor beast...I sympathize with you folks who live with that pretty much all summer...it's no good...

I must have Lymes because I start "running down" about mid-afternoon and have to take a nap. Try sleeping all day and then you will feel pretty good until midnight. Have y'all decided which dog you are taking to Autumn Oaks or are you going to take both of them? Boy, my little Rabble grand pup sure is getting me excited. She is definately not a "cookie cutter" though. She is cute as a button but a little tiny thing with no legs and short ears. But she is quick, fast and very hyper, not laid back at all.

Grand pup

How is she a Rabble Grandpup Richard? Is she a mate to Chick and Tom?

I'm working on getting better and it's looking better every day. Today I soaked up with the SPF 60 and spent the better part of the day outside, messing with the chores, unloading dog food and even had time to go and pick up a couple of jumbo coons a guy caught in his live traps. Turned the coons loose in the springs below the house so we've got another pair of big ones for this fall...or sooner if the night is right.

The antibiotics are giving me a new lease on life by the way I feel now compared to 3 weeks ago. Up until last Friday when I started taking them, I didn't think I was going to make it there for awhile...it's as low as I've ever felt. I've been on the pills now for 9 days and symptoms are getting better I'm feeling more like my old self again.

Who knows, I may even be ready for a night or two in the woods in the next week or so...we'll see how it continues to go.

Vacations

How long do they usually last...August...give or take a couple of days...

He can count down the days until school starts again so time to seriously start thinking about taking a few days with the family. Late August is a great time to hunt, the corn is up and the coons are in it...better days are comin'...eh?

August Bloodlines

I have been keeping score on Performance Sires. Rabble now has 8 sons on the list. That number is tied with another dog with the most sons. They are spread around the nation, so no one should have to travel a great distance to get some T-Top blood.

Vacation

I'm saving as much as I can for the fall when it's decent enough weather to actually enjoy it. The corn crop around here looks great and shooting cobs already. In another couple of weeks, we'll be able to start to hunt the corn fields and it should be a hoot with these young dogs getting into litters that are big enough to lay good tracks and get up in the trees before getting caught.

The dogs are all doing good, even though it's hot and humid...but not as hot as last week. Berries are getting ripe, choke cherries are starting to color up and the coons are everywhere...late August is always a good time to start the hunting back up.

Feeling better every day, I'm pretty sure I've got this Lymes business under control...what a great feeling.

I am going to take one vacation around the end of August and go up to Richmond, Indiana myself. I was thinking about taking another vacation around the end of September. I am going to take my "family" out to Eastern Virginia and visit a new friend that I met up in the mountains. In October I always take a week off and drive up to Wisconsin to visit the big Belgian and stock up on cheese. I haven't decided yet where I will go in November but in December I will head out to the White River Refuge in Arkansas. And then I will have to head down to South Carolina and the Grand American the first of January to hunt a week with Mr Woody. The end of January I will be down in Augusta, Ga and the Winter Classic for a week of hunting in those South Georgia Swamps. And then I guess that I will have to travel out to Cedar Grove, North Carolina and Southern Redbone Days the middle of February for a week of hunting. There are just not enough weeks in a month these days.

Vacation

Heck you should list the weeks your not on vacation. Would be a lot less typing. I don't think Tom and Myself have figured out how to get that much time off in one year. Have a great fall. Dave

That's a trip I hope I can make somewhere down the road...I have to find me a youngster to chase the dogs and someone to talk to while I listen from the road...yep...that sounds like a plan.

If I live long enough to retire, I'm gonna see what it feels like to hunt all night again...it's been awhile but I think I can remember how it goes

Tom, that is why they keep SuperDave around. I know a guy in Illinois that will drive you to within 50-150 yds of every tree. He has driven us to within 10 yds of some trees. We knocked one coon out and it fell in the bed of the truck and landed on top of the dog box. I don't remember you having to walk more than 100 yds the night Mr Woody and I hunted with you and Dave.

SuperDave, how about somewhere between the first cool nights and the start of Deer season? It should start cooling off a little sooner up in the Mts.

Close

We had it pretty good that night Richard, they never went from the bottoms to the top even one time. When we went to the top, they stayed on top...it doesn't always go that way...

Anyway, I'll be able to navigate again real soon, I'm feeling so much better every day. All that needs to happen now is for the weather to start cooling down into more of a fall pattern, then we'll be back in gear. It has been hot and humid a lot this summer but the crops look very good and the apple trees are loaded so it's going to be a real good fall for the critters and that makes for good hunting in this part of the country.

Maybe you can make a detour again this fall and stop in for a night or two, we'll find you a coon to tree and maybe we won't have to climb these bluffs this time either. There's lots of coon around here this year so although Dave will have them thinned down some by the end of October, we always make sure we save a few for visitors. We'll have a couple of extra nice young dogs going by then...sort of the next generation of the next generation...eh?

Maybe Sheba and I could come up and help Dave with some of that "thinning down". When does it start cooling off?
